PROGRAMME DIRECTOR WELCOME SIMON DOWNS This is a sad piece to write. The students, whose work you will find in the pages that follow, are the final cohorts of our BA (Hons) Graphic Communication and BA (Hons) Illustration programmes. The programme staff have worked hard over the last couple of decades to produce refined, hard working and good-hearted designers. In this spirit, we present to you a final group that exemplifies everything we’ve aimed to do. These guys are keen, super keen- a current that is found strongly here, running through every activity at Loughborough University. So keen in fact, that walking down the corridor to get lunch becomes a gauntlet. At the sound of footsteps they appear with long lists of technical queries, industrial pointers and ambitious schemes for designs aimed at changing the world. As young designers they care in both a broad sense about the world but also in terms of doing a job well done. This quality of care will stand them in good stead as both designers and citizens living in a world that needs care, but is commonly care-less. If this world is to be saved we need good people in the communications fields who can turn the public’s eyes towards a better place, a fairer future and these finalists can do just that. They work hard, and this is the most important, but frequently overlooked, quality in the design world. We lionise design stars, but ignore the designers who make the work that reinvents the world every day. So while it is lovely to be talented, it’s only useful if you are talented and hard working. Our finalists are both. In the following pages you will find a vast range of work, across a swath of media, bound by a common quality: the work works. That’s the highest compliment I can offer a fellow designer in a world of trick design and fads. Good luck to you all, be good. Be good designers.

WORDS FROM COMMITEE Loughborough University has been everything we could have asked for and more. In our time here we have all grown as designers thanks to our great group of tutors who have been there to guide us, every step of the way. We have all made friends for life and there is nothing about our time at Loughborough that we would want to change; we all have memories that will last a lifetime. The highlight of our degree was most definitely the trip to New York (San Francisco for some). 4 days of gallivanting the streets of New York, getting lost down Avenues and even a brief trip to Queens for a few. It was an eventful and knackering few days to get as much out of the experience as possible! Nothing like a free holiday! **Ahhemm Educational Experience**. As for having our feet planted in Loughborough, our ability to plan course socials has definitely improved. From first and second year where we would plan a social and have five people turn up, to hosting an Acoustic Night at the White Hart to raise money towards our degree show. It just shows how much we have grown as a course, and as a committee to be able to pull off such a successful night! The time has now come for us to all graduate together, and leave Loughborough for one final time. Although this is sad we are confident that everyone on this course will go on to do great things, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for us all. Good Luck to everyone graduating with a BA degree in Graphic Communication or Illustration.
