Making Others Look & Feel Great

randparents and parents, even aunts and uncles, often do not recognize their influence on the career choices of younger family members. The experiences of preceding generations may encourage those just starting out in life to follow in a relative’s professional “footsteps.” Angie Harris found inspiration in three earlier generations of her family. Like these, she chose a vocation in making others feel beautiful—and, today, Angie is a co-owner of Achieva Salon & Spa in Bluffton, Indiana. “Our salon is special,” explains Kim Leas, “because it has been passed down for three generations. Angie’s grandfather was a barber in same
place that our salon is now. Her uncle, Randy Kunkle, was the owner of the former Hairs the Latest—that was also in this same building.” For Kim, the other co-owner of Achieva Salon & Spa, family had nothing to do with her career path. She says, “I always loved pretending to style my friends’ hair when I was a little girl, so I just knew that was something that I wanted to do.” Angie and Kim, both Wells County natives, became good friends and, over time, they realized that their interests and skill sets complimented one another. The pair purchased the business from Angie’s uncle, and in 1997, Achieva Salon & Spa was born. OCTOBER 2016 | wabashvalleyliving.com | 5
“Angie and I are great friends,” says Kim, “and we communicate very well together. Her strengths are my weaknesses, and my strengths are her weaknesses, so we blend very well together. We are truly blessed to be partners in this business.” Today, the two gals divide the daily management tasks, while maintaining their own lists of clients. From bookkeeping to scheduling, they work together as a team to keep the salon running smoothly.
In addition, Angie and Kim oversee seven stylists who provide hair services, nail care, and skin care to men and women of all ages. Achieva Salon & Spa offers a long list of services, including: haircuts, chemical and restorative treatments, waxing, special occasion styles, massage, manicures and more. The staff at Achieva are passionate about their careers. Each considers it their calling to help others look and feel great. “What keeps us sane on a busy day,” says Kim, “are the girls that we work with. They are all amazing and a lot of fun.

“They are the Achieva family.” And, like family, the nine ladies spend time together away from work at the salon, enjoying one anothers’ company. At Achieva Salon & Spa, owners and stylists alike use their talents and skills in service to others when the opportunity presents itself. As small business owners, Kim and Angie believe in the importance of giving back to the community that has shown them a great deal of support. The ladies have been known to donate gift certificates for massages, manicures, or pedicures to charitable organizations in the area that are near and dear to their hearts. When appropriate, Achieva stylists encourage their clientele to donate long strands of hair to the nonprofit organization known as Kids with Wigs. The agency provides hair replacement systems and support, at no cost, to children who have lost their hair due to cancer and other medical issues.
The everyday gift offered by Achieva staff is a rather simple one—listening and responding to the wishes of clients. Whether a young boy is in need of a backto-school haircut, or a bridal party gathers to have their make-up and hair done for a friend’s special day, the team of stylists is attentive to its clients. And, the stylists are quick to give helpful tips and share their expertise. “In order to be a successful hairstylist,” Kim explains, “you need to be able to communicate well with all types of people. All of us here at Achieva have compassion for others, which helps build a strong relationship with customers.” This sort of relationship ensures repeat business for stylists at Achieva Salon & Spa. And, happy clients are glad to recommend the business to friends and family members. “We have the best, most grateful and understanding clients,” Kim and Angie say. 7 7
For the owners of Achieva, operating a beauty salon is not complete without the support and love of their families— and, the moments of rest and relaxation in between. Both ladies are careful to enjoy some downtime in order to rejuvenate themselves. Kim loves to work out and enjoy the great outdoors. “I love to boat and camp, when I can,” she says. She especially enjoys spending time with her husband Luke, three sons— Spencer, Hunter, and Walker— and a granddaughter, Sophia. “We enjoy going to the lakes and traveling.” Angie’s outside pursuits aren’t all that different. “My husband, Scott, and I enjoy going to the beach together, and traveling.” She values time spent with her sons, Chase, Chandler, and Grant, and her daughter-inlaw, Mal. Need a new style? Achieva Salon & Spa is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. To make an appointment, simply call. ome say having children “changes everything.” For Jeanne Bayless, marriage and three children came before her career, but it was motherhood that led her to become an entrepreneur and small business owner. In the early 1990s, Jeanne’s youngest daughter, affectionately known as Lulu, developed skin issues. Jeannie fretted over the rashes and bumps that repeatedly appeared across patches of her 8-year-old daughter’s skin. Just like any good mother, Jeanne tried a few at-home remedies to soothe Lulu’s skin. And, she consulted dermatologists. Jeanne soon realized the solution was simple—but it would not be easy to implement.
Bath soap and shampoo were too harsh for Lulu’s sensitive skin. Jeanne says she was shocked at the number of harsh chemicals she found on ingredient labels. A natural problem solver, Jeanne researched possible alternatives for the traditional shampoos and soaps. She found a recipe for soap and developed a version of her own. Once Lulu started using the homemade soap, the itchy bumps began to clear from her delicate skin. Problem solved! Word spread quickly about Jeanne’s new soap, and friends and family with skin issues approached her to purchase the soap. And, Jeanne realized there was a need for other sensitive skin-friendly personal care items. One thing led to another, and the OCTOBER 2016 | wabashvalleyliving.com | 9

mother of three soon found herself operating a small business. In 1998, Jeanne opened a retail shop, called Heartstrings, at her home in rural Markle, Indiana. She recalls, “It was the perfect opportunity to work from home while raising my three young children.” Jeanne’s sales received a significant boost when she launched a website and began selling her products online. Nearly two decades later, Jeanne business has grown, but she is still known for her soap-making ability. She puts a lot of time and tender, loving care into the hand-poured products, which are sold under her own brand, known as Lather Up® (or, LU). Each bar of soap takes up to three weeks to make. LU soaps are available in more than two dozen varieties, including a few limited edition and seasonal soaps. “I use the real organic stuff,” says Jeanne. LU soap ingredients may include a blend of several different moisturizing oils—including olive oil, aloe butter, avocado oil, jojoba oil, kokum butter, palm oil, palm kernel oil, palma christi oil, shea butter, sweet almond oil, and hemp oil—to make a rich, thick lather. Jeanne also uses high quality essential oils and fragrance oils. Referring to LU soaps, a teacher recently told Jeanne, “I used them in my middle school classroom to mask the odors from teenage boys and girls after their physical education class. For the first time in days,
the classroom does not stink like a foul odor.” Jeannie, who started as a soap maker, has expanded her line over the years to include lip balms, body butter, hydrating mists, body lotions, and sheet sprays. One of her most popular products is lip balm. “I will fill twenty-thousand tubs of lip balm this year alone,” she says, smiling. Her brands, which include LU Lip Balm and Gecko Grease, are sold in retail shops, dental offices, and of course, online. More recently, Jeanne has begun selling gift sets. She says they are “perfect for college students living in a dorm,” or for giving as a housewarming present. Jeanne adds, “They are perfect for travel, as each item weighs less than 3 ounces and meets FAA rules.” In addition to Jeanne’s personal care products, Heartstrings carries a variety of unique gift items, scented candles, home décor items, textiles, gourmet food, and more. The retail shop is open Wednesday through Saturday for much of the year, but Jeanne limits
her business to Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays over the winter months. Jeanne is sole proprietor and sole employee. She handles everything, from marketing to sales to product delivery. “It’s easy to put in 90-hour work weeks,” she admits. For a small rural shop, Heartstrings has a loyal following of customers. “Many of them will come to my open house,” Jeanne says. “I will have 700 or more people at my event in November.” The Heartstrings Holiday Open House is held annually just in time for Christmas—this year, on November 11th, 12th, and 13th. Family is important to Jeanne. Her three children have become adults with children of their own. “I have five grandchildren.” A sixth bundle of joy will arrive in December, joiningfour granddaughters and one grandson. This youngest generation has provided inspiration for new soaps. Two of Jeanne’s grandchildren are twins who were born prematurely. The twins have benefited from soap varieties designed specifically for infant use. “Their delicate

and Molding Surplus
When Jeanne is not working in the shop or making soap, she enjoys dining with her family and knitting. “I love to knit things for my grandchildren,” she says, with a smile.

MILLENNIA BARBER SHOP

he Sleep Lab at Adams Memorial Hospital opened in July 2005 when the hospital’s operations moved into the new facility on Mercer Avenue in Decatur, Indiana. The lab is located on the first floor of the hospital. In 2015, Mark Baumer realized a dream nearly 20 years in the making. He first became a business owner in 1997. After graduating from Masters of Cosmetology College in Fort Wayne and interning with several barbers, Mark launched Millennia Hair and Tanning on east Main Street in Berne, Indiana. But really, this story begins many years earlier when Mark and his brother and sister trooped into his
grandfather’s barber shop. “Mom would take us in there to get our hair cut,” Mark remembers fondly. His grandfather operated Murphy’s Barber Shop in Decatur, Indiana for more than 30 years. After high school, while working at Fleetwood, Mark realized “the factory life wasn’t for me.” So, he decided to give barbering a try. With memories of visiting Grandpa’s shop lingering in his mind, he enrolled at Masters. “When I started the salon in 1997, tanning was doing well,” he recalls. He put in long hours multi-tasking between cutting hair and operating the tanning beds at Millennia Hair and Tanning. Early on, Mark knew he’d made the right career decision. OCTOBER 2016 | wabashvalleyliving.com | 15
He enjoyed his new line of work, and over the next ten years, his clientele grew. In 2005, Mark moved his business to Sprunger Street across from the Berne Public Library.
When asked about the difference between a barber shop and a hair salon, Mark responds, “The barber shop is more of an old-school, guys’ hang out. It has more of the traditional feel than a hair salon.”
While operating the salon, Mark also worked part-time at various other jobs. It wasn’t easy, but the extra jobs allowed him to pursue his dream. “That’s how much I wanted to be in the hair-cutting business,” he says.
Mark has enjoyed the change. “It was definitely a good career move.”
But, everything changed in 2015. “Bill McKean was retiring,” Mark explains, “so he offered me his business. I’d always wanted to run a barber shop.” Mark was excited for the opportunity to operate a traditional barber shop as his grandfather had done. So, he purchased the business from Berne’s mayor, as well as the building housing the barber shop on east Main Street, just half a block from where Mark had gotten his start. Two rental apartments, one upstairs and one in the back of the shop, were also part of the deal. 16
Over the past year, the customers of McKean’s Barber Shop and Millennia Hair and Tanning have blended together, as has the business’ name—Millenia Barber Shop. While Mark is happy—and qualified—to cut women’s hair, only a small percentage of his current customers are female. From time to time, Mayor McKean stops by to check in on the business he operated for nearly 45 years. “There’s a long tradition of barbering in this building,” Mark says, “and I’m happy to keep that going.” Maynard Rich sold the barber shop to McKean in 1971. Mark’s favorite part of his job is the socializing. “I like meeting people… engaging in conversation.” Almost every day, men drop by to chit-chat,
as was common tradition for barber shops in years gone by. And, that’s a tradition Mark wants to encourage. Millennia Barber shop continues to display some of the sports memorabilia that had graced the walls of McKean’s Barber Shop—namely, the pennants that recognize Indiana colleges. Mark has added additional items in honor of his own favorite, Notre Dame. He also displays Star Wars memorabilia for two reasons: because he is a Star Wars fan himself, and because it’s a useful tool for calming down anxious youngsters. “Those first-time haircuts can be rough sometimes,” Mark admits. “It’s a challenge.” His secret? “I’ve got candy and a box of toys.” If Dad goes first, the youngster can relax while playing with toys, become comfortable with the place, and then, the haircut is less painful for everyone involved. While he estimates 50 to 60 percent of his clients are retired gentlemen, Mark makes a point to reach out to the younger generations through Facebook and with interaction in the community. Many of his clients remember coming in for a trim with their father in their growing up years. Mark purposely keeps tabs on how today’s young men are wearing their hair. Some clients come in with a photo loaded on their smart phone. “That’s helpful,” Mark says, “especially for first-time customers.”

Another marketing strategy that’s worked well are the before and after photos he posts to the shop’s Facebook page when the client’s haircut is a dramatic change. “Only with the customer’s permission, of course,” he assures. “I go to Swiss Village once a month and cut hair,” Mark adds. He is happy to bring his services to the men who would find it difficult securing a ride to the barber shop. Mark enjoys the busy days— manning the telephone, cutting hair, and giving the occasional shave. He welcomes both walk-ins and advance appointments. Many of his regular customers prefer to stop by and enjoy watching the news, reading a newspaper, and chatting with the “guys” while waiting for their turn in the chair. Millennia Barber Shop carries a full line of hair care products, including the following brands: Redkin, Paul Mitchel, Clubman and Bain de Terre. Business hours are 8:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays; and, 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
When asked about plans for the future, Mark is quick to say, “It works well right here. I’m glad to be here. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” His goal has always been to “provide a quality hair cut that satisfies the customer so they want to come back again.” Mark and his wife Wendy, a teacher at South Adams, live in Berne with their two children. Check out the Millennia Barber Shop page for product promotions and the most recent “before and after” photos.

hopping is largely a female pursuit. Anthropologists tell us that, for the most part, ancient males were hunters, roaming far and wide to bring food back to the family’s table, and females were the gatherers, staying close to the home, tending the young. Whether this led to a good percentage of modern females being preoccupied with shopping remains to be seen. However, most women will understand the bonding and memories that are formed on shopping trips. The current trend of shopping online has been cutting into those once-upon-a-time trips. Nowadays, it’s possible to purchase nearly anything online, and millions of people take advantage of the convenience and power that gives
them as they compare prices across web sites. One result of this trend has been the closing of many retail stores, both big-box mega-stores and single-location small shops. But, according to Pam Brown, owner of Sisters Bridal Boutique in downtown Van Wert, Ohio, there’s more fallout than that. “When I work with customers in my shop, it’s not just about selling dresses,” Pam says. “Most of the brides-to-be who come in here are younger, and they are getting married for the first time. “I’m selling them the experience of trying on beautiful dresses that they wouldn’t normally wear. I’m selling the memories of spending time with your mother or your sister OCTOBER 2016 | wabashvalleyliving.com 27

or aunt or friends, laughing and perhaps celebrating the find with a glass of wine (sparkling or not). You can’t do that on the internet!” A number of years ago, Pam took her daughter out to look for a prom dress. Both women were surprised and shocked that the boutique they chose had virtually no customer service—they were on their own, looking at dresses, sizes, and styles. That’s when Pam said, “I can do better myself!” and decided to open her own shop. The name “Sisters” came about because Pam wanted to have her daughters follow her in the business, which has not really happened, unfortunately. “This is something that I wanted to do, and, although they do help me out, my daughters are cut from a different cloth (pardon the pun),” Pam explains. “Now I’ve heard a million other names I like better, but we decided to keep ‘Sisters Bridal Boutique’ as our brand.”

Although she had no retail experience before opening her own shop, Pam is adamant about what is needed to succeed in her chosen business. “You have to really like helping people,” she says. “Girls and older women come in here with vague ideas sometimes, and you have to learn to listen carefully to see exactly what it is they’re looking for. And, if it takes trying on several dresses before you find ‘the one,’ then you have to have the patience to continue looking with the customer.”

Out of about 7 billion people in the world, only about 100,000 of them are professional models. Yet, women tend to try to match themselves to those bodies. “Body image is very individual,” Pam says. “I work at helping the customer find a dress that best brings out her body’s strengths and her own style and personality. When a customer looks in the mirror and likes what she sees, I’ve done my job.
“We carry sizes and styles for all tastes and body shapes. We have a lady that will help us take in, let out, lengthen, shorten, hem—do any alterations that are needed to make the dress into an individual expression of style,” Pam explains. Although the name implies otherwise, Sisters Bridal Boutique offers more than just beautiful wedding dresses. Along with the bride’s dress, Sisters has bridesmaid dresses and tuxedo rentals for the grooms and groomsmen.

Although a wedding is definitely the bride’s day, it’s also a mission of Sisters Bridal Boutique to help mothers of the bride and groom look great. “Mom” dresses are available in many sizes and styles, and Pam will work with mothers in the same ways she works with their daughters. To assist further, Pam gives each bride a packet of information on everything from wedding cakes to DJs that may be contracted for her reception. “I try to work with local businesses, helping promote them and their services to bridal parties,” Pam explains. “Many of these businesses are also good for birthdays, anniversaries, and other events, so I keep their information available for the general public, also.” And if the customer is not yet old enough to walk down the aisle, Pam also has prom and homecoming dresses. “Some of these girls don’t wear dresses on a regular basis, and they may not have an idea of what’s available.

“Or, they’ve looked at dresses online and found something they like and now need to see if 30
it truly fits their body and style,” says Pam. “I try to help them make prom or homecoming a special time they’ll remember forever.” You can find Sisters Bridal Boutique on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Pam posts pictures of some of the shop’s inventory, but she does not sell online. On the one hand, several of the designers whose lines she handles will not allow online sales, but on the other hand, Pam really prefers to work face-to-face with her clients to give them the personal service she and her daughter sought years ago. “The best advertisement we can have is a satisfied customer, because they will tell all their friends and family about us,” Pam says. “And that is what we aim at—keeping our customers happy and satisfied.”

Established by Betsey Gamble in Rockford, Ohio in May 2011, the business was poised to flourish as its proprietor focused on helping women to fill their wardrobes with some of the trendiest clothes around. Although many said it was a ridiculous notion, Betsey’s goal was to open a boutique in downtown Rockford, bringing the latest clothing trends and styles closer to home for local shoppers. After purchasing a hardware store located on Main Street, Betsey
directed workers, including her husband, to help refurbish the dilapidated building. While retaining the main layout and structure of the building, they sanded down the wood floors and refinished them, repaired and painted walls, and restored the antique tin ceiling--one of the main focal points inside the shop. The remodeled space provokes a vintage feel while providing a warm, cozy atmosphere that is most inviting to shoppers. For its owner, the completion of Betsey’s Boutique was a dream come true. Betsey had been a stay-at-home mother, caring for her two young boys. The older of the two was just starting preschool, and Betsey knew she’d soon be looking for something to help pass the time.

Betsey enjoyed clothes and fashion ever since she was a little girl, and she’d often imagined operating her own shop. What she hadn’t anticipated, though, was how much Betsey’s Boutique would flourish and grow in just a few years, enjoying an immense success in downtown Rockford. When she first opened, Betsey’s Boutique had only about six racks of clothing for customers to peruse. Today, there are clothing racks, shelves and a wide range of displays filled with a variety of apparel and unique gift items. In fact, Betsey’s slogan is “Uniquely Different.” Betsey prides herself on offering such a wide array of clothing and accessories. At Betsey’s Boutique, you’ll find shirts, cardigans, boots, dresses, sweaters, jewelry and much, much more. But, warns Betsey, “We specialize in Boutique brands so each item is unique and available in limited quantities. Get it before it’s gone because it may not come back!” In order to maintain such a large variety and offer so many different brands, Betsey must stay on top of the purchasing. She travels four times a year— to cities both small and large— to decide which brands to feature and to make inventory purchases for her shop. Some of the larger purchasing destinations include Chicago, Dallas and Las Vegas. These are quick trips for Betsey, who does her best to arrange the purchasing travel so as not

to disrupt the boutique’s normal business hours any more than necessary. What is most notable about Betsey’s Boutique is its popularity online. As her shop in Rockford grew, Betsey began posting photos of complete outfits on her Facebook page. Now, online sales make up a large portion of her business. The clothing boutique situated in a small community in
Ohio has accumulated more than 350,000 followers on Facebook. Betsey invoices customers by email, and she offers to ship customer purchases across the United States. She says online sales keep her and the staff very busy—in fact, they work on filling online orders during the days the storefront is closed. Betsey’s customers are as varied as the inventory she keeps in her 35

shop. Many bring their phones so they can recreate the outfits they saw on Facebook. More than a few travel some distance, even as far away as Nashville, Tennessee. Some customers come with the changing of the season, in order to fill their wardrobes and get the customizable styles they prefer. They arrange outfits so they can use the same pieces in several ensembles to get a variety of looks. Betsey enjoys helping customers put together the perfect outfit for any occasion. “If you are passionate about what you do, you want to come to work,” she says. Betsey loves her work—getting to know customers, understanding their needs, and helping them find what they are looking for. “The best part,” she adds, “is meeting people you never would have thought to meet. September through December is one of the busiest times at Betsey’s Boutique, and as the seasons change, so does the inventory, as well as the atmosphere. This month, there are pumpkins in the front window and fall décor throughout the store. As Betsey and her staff prepared for the fall season, they changed the merchandise layout. Items are rearranged according to how well they’ve been selling, and Betsey says they now have a good grasp on the current season’s trends. Boots, leggings, blanket

ho would have believed a high school senior’s class project would launch a career that’s spanned more than twentyfive years for her mother—with no end in sight? That’s exactly what happened for Laura Christen, owner of Electric Paradise Tanning Salon in Decatur, Indiana.
time at Park Center. After some deliberation, she finally concluded, “That might be a good idea.” So, in 1990, Laura launched a tanning business. “I started in my garage with three beds and a booth, and officially opened the next year.”
In high school, Laura’s youngest daughter, Danielle, now a practicing dentist, was instructed to research and “build” a business for one of her classes. Danielle decided on a tanning salon and said, “Mom, why don’t WE open a tanning salon?”
She remained home-based until a move in 2001 brought Electric Paradise Tanning to its current location, where Laura expanded to twelve tanning units. Today, those twelve units include one stand-up unit, two Wolff Cyberdome beds, one high-pressure bed and eight base beds.
“I had never tanned in my life, but my daughters had,” remembers Laura, who then worked part-

Electric Paradise Tanning’s high pressure bed also includes a massager and facial lamps. The customer will continue to tan for 24 to 48 hours after a session in the high pressure bed. The safety of her client’s is a priority to Laura. “If someone comes in with no color, we typically start them out at five minutes and then build up slowly,” she explains. A typical session for an experienced tanner is 20 minutes.

“Here, you don’t need an appointment,” Laura says. “Even in the busy season, the most I’ve had anyone wait is 10 to 15 minutes. Most people like not having to make an appointment.” Clientele traffic lessens in the summer months, then heads into the really slow season for September and October. Things pick back up in November, and by January, Electric Paradise Tanning is hopping again. “January through May, we get slammed,” Laura shares. “One time, we had 150 customers in one day.” Electric Paradise Tanning Salon offers many packages to suit the individual tastes and needs of its clients. Currently, the most popular package is a month of unlimited base bed tanning for $33, with an optional accelerator lotion for $10 plus tax.

Minute packages are also available, with each type of tanning unit carrying a different point-perminute value: 1 point for base beds, 2 points for the stand-up unit, 3 points for the Cyberdome, and 5 points for the high pressure unit. A specially-designed computer program tracks each client’s package purchases and their visits. “When I first opened,” Laura recalls, “I thought the accelerator creams were just a scam, but they really do work.” She’s convinced
their use results in a quicker tan that lasts longer, and they moisturize the skin, as well. Because Laura is so committed to safe tanning practices, she discourages abuse, such as tanning every day, and cautions against the unregulated use of home tanning beds. All of the units at Electric Paradise Tanning are controlled by a master timer that ensures no bed can be on for longer than twenty minutes. Laura sets the time for each

career. “I’ll probably be doing this until I’m 98.” She laughs, yet her statement rings with a note of seriousness.
To make the session more enjoyable, Laura says, “I have CD players in every room and headphones. A lot of people bring their own iPod or phone to listen to music.”
Laura’s oldest granddaughter, who has helped out in the shop, has also worked in a number of other tanning salons, so who knows? She may have an interest in the business at some point in the future.
Laughing, she adds, “I did have to wake someone up once.” Laura remembers she had to pound on the door and wall to get the relaxed, sleeping client to wake up. Due to legislation passed last year in Indiana, persons under the age of 16 are not permitted to tan in salons. And, a parent’s signature is required for anyone under 18. Laura fears the younger crowd may resort to less safe methods of tanning. She is quick to share that not only does tanning establish a base tan that’s beneficial for those vacationing in a warm, sunny locale, but persons deficient in vitamin D benefit from tanning, as well. Years ago, Laura accidentally suffered burns to her eyes while using a tanning lamp. Today, she warns, “I’m a real stickler about clients wearing protective eyewear.” Electric Paradise Tanning also carries a full line of summer-related products, including sun glasses, jewelry, body jewelry, lotions, swim wear, and sandals. Laura admits both she and her family were surprised at how what began as a high school student’s project blossomed into a successful
Laura loves what she does and is committed to the business six days a week. Recently, someone offered to help out in the evenings a few hours a week, making her work week a little shorter. Electric Paradise Tanning is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Afternoons are busiest. The salon’s extensive hours make it convenient for clients to fit tanning sessions into their busy schedules. “Most of my clientele are really nice, and I enjoy talking to them.” She appreciates the customers who frequent Electric Paradise Tanning. “It’s made a good living for me.”
