ABOUT THE BEARS BUSINESS COMMUNITY The Bears Business Community, or BBC, is a living-learning community supported by the College of Business at Missouri State University. In living-learning communities, students with similar interests or majors live on the same floor of a residence hall. They participate in social and academic activities related to their interest area, so it is easy for students to find like-minded friends and study partners.

WHO MAY JOIN THE BBC? It’s considered an honor to be selected for the Bears Business Community, so we’re looking for the best first-year students who are interested in business and leadership opportunities. The BBC is primarily for students who had a high school GPA of 3.0 or more. About 90 students will be selected.

Bears Business Community is one of several living-learning communities on the Missouri State campus.

BENEFITS OF LIVING IN THE BBC The BBC is open to a limited number of students studying business. Students chosen to participate in this community will have the chance to: Participate in social and educational activities, such as programs related to academics, wellness and personal growth Connect with professors outside of the classroom, since each floor will have a faculty member who will assist in academic programming and who will interact with students during social events Tour local and internationally known businesses Gain internship opportunities Develop and sharpen interviewing skills Integrate business concepts into aspects of daily life Learn about study-abroad opportunities and different cultures Practice a commitment to a well-rounded, balanced lifestyle

There are nearly 5,000 MSU business majors (Springfield campus total enrollment is about 20,000).

BBC students will learn about networking opportunities such as internships. Graduates who have completed just one internship have starting salaries that are an average of $6,000 to $7,000 higher than those who did not complete an internship.*

Students living on campus maintain higher GPAs and graduate more quickly than students living off campus.** *National Association of Colleges and Employers **Missouri State GPA data by class and location

AMENITIES OF BLAIR-SHANNON HOUSE The BBC is located in Blair-Shannon House. Blair-Shannon rooms are set up as suites. Six people live in several different bedrooms and share a living space and bathroom. This means you’ll have built-in friends! Blair-Shannon is one of the largest residence halls on campus, so something fun is always happening. About 725 men and women live on single-gender floors. This residence hall has a dining center inside the building. You won’t have to go out in the rain or snow for food!

EXAMPLES OF PROGRAMS Students in the BBC will learn college survival skills as well as business skills. They will be able to attend programs on topics such as: Money management and financial literacy Stress management Emotional and physical wellness Dining etiquette for business meals

Thanks to recent renovations, this hall has a new look with fresh paint, furniture and more. Blair-Shannon is across from the Foster Recreation Center, a new fitness and wellness facility for students. Other amenities: Wireless access throughout; laundry facilities on each floor; a computer lounge; ice and vending machines; a TV lounge; a kitchen facility; much more
