The ANAI Biomonitoring Project has been active since 2000 in the "Greater Talamanca" region of Limon Province, Costa Rica and Bocas del Toro Province, Panama. During this time we have accumulated what is probably the most complete database of biological health information for any watershed area in the tropical world. This has been accomplished as an integral part of ANAI’s longstanding, award-winning program of facilitating sustainable development and natural resource conservation for and by rural communities. Training of local technicians and project managers and continual involvement of local volunteers and students is part and parcel of a methodology which, in addition to serving scientific and conservation ends, produces ever-growing capacity in the communities to manage their own resources and plan for their own future.
