Copenhagen Copenhagen it’s the capital and the biggest city of Denmark. Is a major regional centre of culture, media, and science. The old capital of Denmark had an extremely change during the last years, becoming a fashionable, rich and cosmopolitan city. It’s a city that match perfectly the historical charm with the cosmopolitan. A huge number of the population uses bicycles to avoid the intense traffic of the city, and this was the reason why Copenhagen was considered one of the cities with the biggest number of bicyclists of the world. More than once the city was acknowledged as one of the cities with a better quality life of the Planet. It’s also considered as one of the most ecological of the World not only because of the use of the bicycle but also because of the quality of the port’s water, that it’s so clean that can be used for swimming. For the quality of its infrastructures, for being such an ecological city, for the mixture of the old with the new in such a chiq and sophisticated way, amongst other reasons, Copenhagen is a city that it’s very atractive and that a lot of people want to visit. The goal of this trendbook is to explore the city and to see what is going on over there and what different, interesting and creative projects can we find out. It’s a different way of exploring the city.


Relation between Trends and Zeitgeist’s topic Trends, can be diverse and identified by the multiple networks, in an international way. Along this Trendbook, some of those trends are going to be associated to the diverse Cool examples presented. Trends introduce complementary views, diverse points of view and help us to understand the changes of mentality. The ‘canned goods’ Mad Hagstrom it’s a Danish artist that created cans with immaterial needs written on it, such as trust, unconditional love, inner peace and other 70 characteristics. To Mad this collection of cans represent the luxury of the future, something that he feels that the world needs right now. The “canned goods” are basically empty sealed cans with a minimalist design showcasing an immaterial need written on it. Some of the goods included are "courage to be honest," "inner peace," "sustainable visions" and "self-love." These luxuries are truly something that the world needs. Why it is Cool? It’s a very creative and appealing way of screaming to the world and a wake up call of the values that are important to us and that had been lost. With a simple and atractive design each can showcase a word that have a huge strength with a great meaning and of an extreme importance. It can be a good way of helping us out to remember the needs that had been lost, which one we want to reinforce and what is really important to each one of us. Suspended… meeting rooms! For some, great ideas come in the middle of the night, for others, a little nudge might be needed to inspire ground-breaking thoughts, and the Nykredit Headquarters has found a way to nudge their employees in the right direction. Their uniquely suspended meeting rooms will get anyone's blood pumping to the brain in no time. With the adrenaline kicking in, anything's possible. Unusual floating offices are suspended in the air 50 feet above ground. Designed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, the Nykredit Headquarters is comprised of two office wings that are separated by a spacious atrium, which these cliffhanger conference structures hang over. The space offers an aesthetically stimulating and inspirational working environment. Why it is Cool? It’s a fantastic way of taking advantage of a space creating a practical, creative and sustainable solution. The rooms’ space is different from the usual giving the idea of having more privacy. The fact that the rooms are suspended in the air 50 feet above ground it kicks in the adrenaline, encourage the employees to think differently and helps to stimulate their own creativity. The Generous Store

The Anthon Berg company is known for the premium chocolates that. Anthon Berg Generous Store have a particularity, goods were sold, but money never changed hands. The only suitable form of payment at the Anthon Berg Generous Store is the promise to do a good deed for someone you love. Decked out with price tags that read, “Served breakfast in bed to your loved one,” or “Help clean your friend’s or house,” the Generous Store products demand a lot more effort than fishing a creased bill out of your pocket. When you commit to the price of your glossy goody bag, your “transaction” is processed on an iPad. Through Facebook, you let the lucky recipient of your good deed know what you have in store for them. Anthon Berg encouraged the would be do-gooders to follow up and post photos of their good deed on the company’s Facebook page. Why it is Cool? It’s a regular store with a completely different concept. In exchange of chocolate people are encouraged to do good deeds for someone they love. It’s a funny, inteligent and sweet, literally, way of good deeds being practiced and being showed to the World, eventually as good examples. It starts with a good deed to someone we know and who knows that the attitude can be contagious and be spread to another person. Compact Caravan Nightclubs The Black Box Revelation by Re-Make/Re-Model is a dynamic nightclub concept. A caravan was converted into a multi-functional space occupied during the day and night. Whether used as a meeting space or dance club, this clever compact space pays tribute to retro mobile home designs. One side of a vintage caravan was cutted away, showcasing the remaining parts of it in a darkly painted plywood box. The space is lit by spotlights and features holes cut in its ceiling, making it the place to be during late hours. The Black Box Revelation by ReMake/Re-Model is a playful and witty take on a modular public space that is far from traditional. Why it is Cool? In a space that we use to go from a place to another and that we can go camping anywhere, like the caravan, it was created an irreverent and creative environment with a completely different utility. Whether used as a meeting space or dance club this space has all the conditions to offer us a relaxed environment with a huge sense of creativity. It’s a perfect example of how design can give a different value and utility to products that we are always used to see with a specific use. Since no one would want to take this accessory off unless they are heading into the shower, it will guarantee that they don't misplace the info on this important gadget. Why it is Cool? An useful object where we can keep all the info that we need and have it always with us had become an authentic jewel. The design of the bracelet is so sophisticated and simple that doesn’t look like a memory stick. This is one more example how every product can be used in a different way, even the ones that we think it can’t. City-Wide Living Rooms

Spanning the city of Copenhagen, the Superkilen by BIG, Topotek1 and Superflex urban spaces include design inspiration from the diverse nature of the city’s population. A metropolitan span of recreation located in Nørrebro, these public spaces promote a sense of community in a vastly urban and cosmopolitan setting. Split into three different zones, each location epitomizes the best of an international culture. The mixture of motifs in the design aesthetic, such as picnic benches from Armenia and neon signs from Russia, are meant to create a sense of inclusiveness representative of the diverse population of the city. Why it is Cool? A project that has the goal to portray a true sample of the cultural diversity of contemporary Copenhagen and the natural way that is accepted by the locals. The idea is to create public spaces where people can meet, mingle with different people and even get to know better different cultures. It helps to approach the city in a simple and natural way the foreigner that live over there, it helps to give to locals more information about their own culture and to show them that they are welcome to the city and that they are respected. Woofy

Cute and plastic, Woofy is a dog that obediently sits next to you all day, holding a pile of cables inside to keep your desktop neat. Designed by Gabriel Nigro, the figures are about the size of a real small dog.

Why it is Cool? It’s very interesting the idea of having a huge design element where we can hold inside all the cables. To those who like dogs it’s very nice to have daily the company of our faithful friend, even if it’s not real. It’s an object with a fantastic design, that is a true piece of decoration and that at the same time keeps our desktop neat. It’s a simple object that makes a huge difference! Hotel Fox

Individually themed rooms is nothing new in the hotel world. Hotel Fox took that idea to a new level. The hotel has been transformed by 21 street artists, graphic designers and illustrators from Europe, North and South America, and Australia. Each of the 61 rooms has a unique installation; The idea was to put together a group of modern, contemporary graphic designers and illustrators, outstanding and innovative in their fields, whose work is playful, positive, catchy and funky.

Why it is Cool? It’s very appealing to move into a hotel that is a real piece of art. Each room is a piece of art that turns the place into something personal. The fact that none of the rooms are equal and the chance of being able to see art from all over the world and done by different artists turns the stay in the hotel into a unique and very interesting experience. Laundromat Cafe The Laundromat Cafe is one of the few places in the world where you can grab a cup of coffee while doing your laundry at the same time. The Laundromat Cafe may be one of the hippest laundromats around. The wooden walls are filled with vintage photographs and pop-art pieces. Customers waiting for their clothes to wash can kill time sipping coffee and reading through one of the Laundromat Cafe's 2,000 books. The Laundromat Cafe actively encourages its customers to read, even going so far as to hand out witty bookmarks that also double as postcards. Why it is Cool? It’s a coffee with a lively atmosphere, relaxed and with a fantastic decor. While we wash our clothes we can read, drink a coffee or simply socialize with friends or with another people that we can meet at the cafe. A task, that is considered for many as being boring, can start to be seen in a different way and a good reason to socialize and to spend more time with our friends. Green spaces… in the roof!

Caught in a concrete jungle with no escape to green spaces just try building a city haven like the project of JDS Architects. Located in the highly populated city, this rooftop getaway is the place to go and disappear. This project brilliantly structured a modern park space above ground. It comes with a 360 view of the city and with an additional elevated aerial viewing spot, one can get a little closer to the sky. It comes with a playground, a deck, barbecue and outdoor kitchen area including a large patch of real grass and soil. Why it is Cool? That moment when we feel that we need to get away of the city or when we want to go to the park and we don’t have anything like that near us. This project is the perfect idea for that getaway, where we can enjoy the city in a different way, where we can have our own little garden, our small getaway. It’s the moment when we have the feeling that we got away of the city, from the daily environment and where we can relax for awhile. Associated Trend: Design = Wow + How + How Good. Showrooms Vintage

The co-founders of this project, that consists of a interior design studio called “The Apartament”, and has the goal of changing the common idea of showroom. A vintage apartment was restored and used to re-create the vibe of a rustic, all-white metropolitan apartment. This showroom takes high-end designer pieces and showcases them in different rooms of the apartment to display a very urban appeal of the interior design pieces. The founders of The Apartment Interior Design Studio have a long standing relationship with Sotheby’s and Christie’s, often showcasing rare items in its showroom. This exclusive relationship leave the clientele of this studio feeling exclusive and knowledgeable of what’s up and coming. Why it is Cool? Most of the time when we buy a piece of art we don’t have any idea of where are we going to put it in our house and how it’s going to look like. The opportunity of seeing an exhibition of those pieces of art in a real atmosphere give us a different idea of its utility and the way that we can display it in our house. If you like working out and don't mind sweating a little on vacation, a trip to the Hotel Crowne Plaza in Copenhagen might a good choice. The hotel is truly ecological and amongst other characteristics has a very alternative and interesting way of generating energy. Each client that pedal on their electricity-generating stationary bikes is rewarded with a meal voucher. Those bikes are located outside the hotel and 15 minutes are enough o generate 10 watt hours of power. iPhones located on each of the stationary bikes give an up-to-the-minute report of the wattage each guest's cycling has yielded. Nørrebro Brewhouse - Carbon-friendly brewerie

Nørrebro Brewhouse it’s a microbrewery and restaurant housed in a former metal factory in Copenhagen's Nørrebro district, Nørrebro Brewhouse prides itself on its greattasting beer, Nordic-inspired food and eco-friendly practices. When it comes to ecofriendly beer, Nørrebro Brewhouse has the world's first CO2 neutral beer, 'Globe Ale‘. The beer isn't the only thing at Norrebro Brewhouse that is eco-friendly, however; there’s a variety of "climate friendly" dishes into the menu. Pork paté and milk-poached cod are just two of the edible environmentally friendly options available at Nørrebro, which diners can enjoy on either of the restaurant's spacious two-storeys - or, if you've thought ahead, at the "Brewmaster's Table," an elevated platform diners can reserve to watch the beer being brewed as they eat and drink. Bike calibrators When you see your first Cykelpleje at a nearby gas station, it'll be a clear sign that the country you're in has strong feelings for bikes and the environment. Scattered throughout the Danish capital Copenhagen are resourceful, small bicycle repair stations. Because the country is home to so many daily cyclists, the Norwegian oil company Statoil, began installing these 'Cykelpleje' at each of their gas stations, encouraging locals to drop by and perform some maintenance. Pumps, air hoses, greasing oil, tire levers and Allen keys are all available free of charge for tinkering cyclists. A rack folds away from the care station, letting users prop their bike upside-down while they work. Why it is Cool? Most of the population use the bicycle on their daily life, so those kind of services are of a great help. Despite

Paper tattoos

The artist Jacob Dahlstrup create beautiful and creative drawings tattooed on white paper. With a needle of a tattoo machine three-dimensional lines are raised adding depth and character to each artwork. After drawing what he wants with an ordinary pencil, Jacob goes over the lines with a tattoo needle. Why it is Cool? With a tool that is only associated for doing tattoos on the human body it’s possible to do a very creative and original work and much different from the usual. Drawing three-dimensional lines turns the work into something much more real and with very particular and interesting characteristics. We can appreciate it and even feel all of the smallest details of each artwork. It’s the example of a new use that can be given to the needle of a tattoo machine.
