Storytelling is a way of developing listening and language skills as well as stimulatinge imagination.

Fran's storytelling sessions are structured to cover many aspects of the National Curriculum from literacy, English, history science and drama in an entertaining and enjoyable way. He is ideal for schools, festivals, libraries and living history events.

About Shadow Puppet Theatre Workshop Shadow Puppet Theatre Workshop aims to engage kids to develop creative, manual and artistic skills. From my artistic training, what I do basically is to use the scenographic images and puppetry work as painting in motion where they can learn basic artistic skills by playing and having fun.

We can create a story involving characters and scenarios , and do a performance relying on the evocative power of lights and shadows that are the basis and support for this kind of performing art.

What I do is lead the participants during the creative process, and help them develop stories, scenarios, characters and everything that involves Shadow Puppet Theatre. I work mostly with recycled items to make the puppets as well as the scenario. I want to show them a wide range of possibilities and let them know how we can use a variety of materials to create a Shadow Theatre and which are its possibilities.

Steps to the performance To start with:

Brief introduction to Shadow Theatre: what is it about, its history. Analyze its possibilities. Showcase an example of Shadow Theatre performance: Short performance using the material we will be dealing with. Introducing the materials and tools we will be using (recycled item such as cardboard, plastics‌), and scenery (projectors, moving light bulbs, fans‌).

Create a Story, by playing with words or even with something related to The Festival! We will work in groups up to five people. Set what each group will be doing.

Working on the story and decide our way of performing ( m u s i c , characters, color, effects, movement).

About... I am passionate about inspiring creativity in children and helping young adults to nurture and understand their creative talents.

How Shadow Puppet Theatre can help your child. Creativity skills. Creating a story and characters out of your imagination. Artistic skills. Explore what colour and shape mean to you. Compose cut-outs, collaged, colour-ďŹ lled artworks, then create your own puppet (and later take them home!). Arts & crafts: Inviting you to experiment with shape, form and composition , inspired by the art of this ancient performing art. Manual skills: Understanding the mechanisms that drive the puppets. Trimming, tapping, drilling, mixing different materials. Use color to make it and be aware of the movement is a plus to add to the performing. Planning skills: We will need to make a plan within a timing. There will be a set time for each part of the workshop.

Performing skills: Get to know the possibilities of Shadow Theatre and everything related to it. Have a go using sounds or wind movement with a fan to increase visual effects. Learn teamwork: Be aware of others, and learn how to coordinate a team work where each one have an independent role within the team, which is essential to make it work. Learn to respect, dialogue and communicate ideas. Compositional skills: We will need it to create a scenery and the effects we are looking for in our performance. Chromatic Skills: Play on a colourful adventure whilst designing both puppets and stage effects.

I have been a painter since I can remember. I’ve been developing my personal art work since I finished my degree in Painting back in 1996. I am keen to teaching art related topics and leading art workshops for children and adults. My experience, more than 5 years now, has taken me to, fairs, festivals, social and cultural centres and schools, where I have worked with a variety of workshops.

I believe there is an artist in every one of us. My contribution is to help bringing out the talents we all have inside. My mission is to leave the kids enriched, both artistically and visually stimulated, encouraged and entertained. I find in Shadow Puppet Theatre workshop all the ingredients to bring together their experience and dump it in art education.
