Ananke is a digital platform empowering women through awareness, advocacy and education. It was launched in 2014 as a digital media entity documenting women's achievements, showcasing them as role models for aspiring women and girls to emulate. Ananke is a forum that aims to highlight global issues and topics with a gender lens.

Celebrating Day of the Girl, Ananke plans to hold a virtual summit on October 29th, 2020 with the theme ?Realizing an Inclusive Future?aligned with that of UNICEF?s for year 2020:My voice, Our Equal Future.

Making up half of this population, girls are amazing agents of change within their communities and beyond. During the event, Ananke envisions to raise awareness and encourage girls?participation in five key areas: -

Focus | Educat ion Education is one of the fundamental pillars of an equitable, just and thriving society. It has the power to transform communities, nations and the entire globe. Strengthening economies, education ensures poverty reduction and humanity?s liberation from different forms of socio-economic oppression.

Education is the fundamental right of every child and equal access to learning benefits us all. Reports reveal that girls are 1.5 times more likely than boys to be completely excluded from primary education. UNICEF estimates that 132 million girls are out of school, including 43.3 million of primary school age, 30 million of lower secondary age and 67.4 million of upper secondary school age.

Educating a girl does not only ensure that no one is left behind, it also means realizing the full potential of girls as change makers benefitting society as a whole. Now with COVID19 pandemic crisis and its far reaching, debilitating impact, inequalities in education and hurdles towards a girls? learning have accelerated. According to a Malala Fund report, 10 million more secondary school aged girls will be out of school before the pandemic is over. Schools are institutions where girls get an opportunity to exercise their agency, discover their voice and explore leadership. Experts warn that girls are harder to reach when schools close down, adding another dimension to the crisis of access to learning.

The year 2020 has ushered in a time that unreservedly urges humanity to look within itself and seek answers, if not solutions, to the plethora of intersecting crises and burning global questions. The encumbering toll on our environment and habitat has been devastating and it is something that cannot be ignored.

It has become crucial to acknowledge that a woman?s participation is key to achieving sustainability. Comprising 51 percent of the world population, it is important to include the needs & perspectives of women in every sphere of sustainable development, be it climate action, building resilience or mobilizing crises response.

Preserving humanity means safeguarding our environment and building a robust plan of action. This relies heavily on involving all stakeholders and mobilizing the youth, especially young women and girls ? who are disproportionately impacted due to persisting inequalities. Persisting inequalities in education, access and mobility compound global crises of poverty, hunger as well as environmental emergencies and other deprivations in health and economy.
