VENUE HIRE AT THE SOUTH LONDON GALLERY Awarding winning contemporary architecture meets Victorian elegance in this Grade II listed gallery in the heart of Camberwell
SOUTH LONDON GALLERY
The South London Gallery is a distinctive and elegant setting for a range of private functions, receptions and corporate events. The magnificent main gallery, complete with vaulted ceiling and Victorian glass lantern, is complemented by the contemporary design of an award-winning extension by 6a architects, which opened to the public in June 2010. The South London Gallery (SLG) was founded in 1891 and its impressive building was constructed from Portland stone and hand-made pressed bricks, much favoured by the Arts and Crafts tradition of the time. Many of the original architectural features remain and the SLG continues to be a ‘hidden gem’ offering tranquil respite from the hustle and bustle of Peckham Road. The SLG is now one of London’s leading venues for contemporary art and live art events, with an innovative education and outreach programme. As a registered charity, all income generated from venue hire directly supports the gallery’s education and artistic programmes.

About the SLG The South London Gallery opened in 1891 and was founded as a “gallery for the people of south London” which would be free for all and open on Sundays. The SLG has earned an international reputation for its pioneering programme of contemporary art exhibitions, live art events and education projects for children, young people and adults. Five exhibitions each year profile the work of established international figures, such as Mark Dion, Tracey Emin, Tom Friedman, Alfredo Jaar, Gabriel Kuri, Michael Landy, Rivane Neuenschwander, Superflex and Tatiana Trouvé, as well as that by younger and mid-career British artists, such as Ryan Gander, Eva Rothschild and Turner Prize nominee George Shaw. Group shows bring together works by established and lesser known British and international artists. The gallery’s live art and film programme has included presentations by Charles Atlas & Mika Tajima, Rachel Gomme, Nathaniel Mellors, Gail Pickering, OMSK and Gisele Vienne. Exhibitions are free, as well as many of the SLG’s events. The gallery is open to the public from Tuesday until Sunday, 11am–6pm, and until 9pm on Wednesday evenings and the last Friday of the month.
