VALENTINE´S DAY IN FRANCE An old Valentine’s Day custom during the 14th and 15th century was called 'une loterie d´amour'. It was banned by the French Government because it became uncontrollable. It consisted of single men and women, and the men would enter the houses which were opposite each other and call out to attract a partner. If a man was not happy with the woman he chose, he would leave and look for another woman. The women that were left without men would build a big fire and burn pictures of the men that had hurt them. Today in France it is traditional for people to visit the town of Saint Valentin in Indre, which is named after Saint Valentine and there are lots of festivals related to this day.
