Ancasta Yacht Services is the official UK Distributor for Jet Thruster. Whether you need spare parts or want a complete Jet Thruster system fitted, we’ll find the best solution for your boat. Here we ask Paul Hardy, Technical Sales & Service Manager, why Jet Thruster should be the next item on your yacht’s wish list...

What is the biggest benefit of fitting a Jet Thruster system?

Jet Thruster is designed to simplify the docking and manoeuvering of your boat. Whether you have a large or small yacht, monohull or multihull, shallow or deep keeled, a Jet Thruster system will give you the confidence to dock with ease. They’ll be no more embarrassing moments when trying to moor in a cross breeze or rushing tide!

How does the Jet Thruster system work?

The Jet Thruster system uses water pressure to create powerful jets that instantly push the yacht where you want it to go. Using a highpower electrical turbine centrifugal water pump, the system works on the principle of low pressure and high flow rate. The pump draws water through a 3" or 4" intake on the bottom of the boat, and the water flow is directed through flexible reinforced rubber hoses by proprietary electromotive valves and to nozzles below the waterline.

Is Jet Thruster easy to use?

Yes, it is incredibly easy to use. The Jet Thruster system is controlled via a simple joystick or button panel. All you need to do is push the joystick or button to port or starboard, and the boat will move in that direction. The power is instant, which gives you excellent control when moving your yacht within a tight space or in tricky weather conditions.

Are Jet Thruster systems simple to install?

Yes! The system uses composite thru-hull thruster nozzles, so unlike other bow and stern thruster brands, there's no need for GRP work to fit a tunnel. Here at Ancasta Yacht Services, we are a Jet Thruster UK Distributor, so we are well-practiced in fitting Jet Thruster systems. Or, if you want to fit it yourself, we can supply the full kit. A complete bow or stern thruster package can be bought from us off the shelf and is straightforward to fit.

What about noise? Are Jet Thrusters discrete?

There’s no need to worry about noise with a Jet Thruster system. Unlike traditional thrusters, the high-quality bronze impeller reduces cavitation, making the water jets extremely quiet. You can now dock with complete discretion! Plus, the pump can be located away from the more traditional under-berth position, reducing any disturbance for guests resting below deck.

What maintenance does a Jet Thruster system require?

Jet thrusters don't have any moving parts in the water, so they require less maintenance than other systems. They can also be serviced while your boat is in the water. Manufactured by Holland Marine Parts in Dordrecht, the Netherlands, all Jet Thruster products are made from high-quality Stainless Steel or high-grade composite materials certified to industrial standards, so they are built to last.

SINGLE DUAL COMBI

The new choice in manoeuvring

We recently fitted a Jet thruster system onboard this Dufour 385 The positioning of the yacht’s water tank in the bow meant there wasn’t enough room to fit a traditional tunnel thruster, but the flexibility of the Jet Thruster system was ideal, and the motor and batteries were fitted underneath a neatly fabricated shelf, accommodated within an extension of forward bunk. The owner is delighted with the result. The simple-to-use system gives them excellent control when berthing or maneuvering in tight spaces. Having the low-profile outlets positioned so far forward provides excellent efficiency and performance, and there is very little drag.
