ПРО ТВОРЧІСТЬ. Архітектор-художник в Україні є сьогодні небезпечним. Місто стає заручником випадку, емоцій, естетства. За «красивою» оболонкою немає змісту, процесів, життя. Головне – відповідальність. Не нашкодити. Місту, природі, майбутньому. Через аналіз ситуації, чужого позитивного досвіду, через безліч варіантів, конкурс. До вірного рішення. Віктор Зотов ON CREATIVE WORK An architect who is mainly an artist can now be dangerous for Ukraine. The city becomes a hostage of chance, emotions and aestheticism. There is no content, processes or anything lively behind the “beautiful” appearance. The main thing is to feel responsible. Without doing damage to the City, nature and future. Про ФестИвАЛь ABOUT fesTіvAl

CANactions це Міжнародний молодіжний архітектурний фестиваль, який щорічно проводиться в Київському Будинку архітектора та ініційований архітектурним бюро «Зотов і Ко» у 2008 році. Вперше фестиваль заявив про себе у форматі одноденної міжнародної конференції, що зібрала близько 400 слухачів і представила понад 15 презентацій українських та іноземних архітекторів. За 4 роки існування фестиваль перетворився в широко відомий в Україні і Європі багатоденний захід з аудиторією понад тисячу слухачів. З кожним роком він привертає все більшу увагу талановитих європейських архітекторів. CANactions 2011 − пряме тому підтвердження. З 24-х іноземних фахівців, які приїхали на фестиваль і були його активними учасниками, − проводили майстри-класи, були членами журі, давали інтерв’ю, − назвемо таких світових зірок як Крістос Пассас (ZAHA HADID ARCHITECTS/Великобританія, професор DIA/ Німеччина), Андреас Клок Педерсен (BIG/Данія), Лоренц Декслер (Topotek1/Німеччина), Фабіан Хьорманн (EM2N/Швейцарія). Добавимо також, що цього року фестиваль прийняв учасників зі США, Колумбії, Австралії та Японії. Резонанс серед архітектурного співтовариства, дав свої результати й в галузі співробітництва з міжнародними інститутами й організаціями. З 2009 р. постійним партнером фестивалю й ініціатором Конкурсу молодих архітекторів України є Інститут Архітектури в Дессау (Німеччина); цього року цей конкурс відбувся за підтримки ще двох іменитих партнерів − Європейської урбаністичної проектувальної лабораторії Stadslab і представництва фонду ім. Г. Бьолля в Україні. Структура фестивалю включає майстер-класи й лекції видатних архітекторів світу, презентації молодих європейських та українських фахівців, круглі столи, прес-конференції, спільне проектування Workshop (2010 рік), проведення всеукраїнських (2009, 2010, 2011 роки) і міжнародних (2011 рік) конкурсів, а також виставки конкурсних проектів (2009-2011 рр.) та проектів архітектурних бюро різних країн (2009 -2011 рр.).

CANactions is an International Youth Architectural festival that is annually held in Kyiv House of Architects, initiated by “Zotov&Co” design bureau in 2008. At first it was one-day international conference that pulled in over 400 visitors and featured over 15 presentations made by Ukrainian and foreign architects. Over 4 years of its existence, the festival has grown into a major event, which is widely known in Ukraine and in Europe, attracting more than 1 thousand visitors. With every year coming it has been exciting an increasing interest on the part of talented Ukrainian and European architects, which is convincingly confirmed by CANactions 2011. 24 foreign masters attended the festival and took an active part in it – giving master-classes and interviews, serving on the jury. Among them there were such world-famous architects as Christos Passas (associate director at Zaha Hadid Architects/ the UK, professor DIA/ Germany), Andreas Klok Pedersen (BIG/ Denmark), Lorenz Dexler (Topotek1/ Germany), Fabian Hörmann (EM2N/ Switzerland). It is worth mentioning that this year the festival extended its geography, welcoming participants from the USA, Colombia, Australia and Japan. A huge resonance among the architectural community helped to enlist the cooperation of international institutions and organizations. Thus, Dessau Institute of Architecture (Germany) has been a constant partner of the festival and initiator of the Competition of young architects of Ukraine since 2009. This year, this competition was also supported by two other renowned partners - Stadslab European Urban Design Laboratory and Heinrich Böll Foundation’s office in Ukraine. Festival includes master-classes and lectures of internationally recognized architects, presentations of young European and Ukrainian professionals, round table discussions, press-conferences, joint design work in the form of Workshop (2010), all-Ukrainian (2009, 2010, 2011) and international (2011) competitions, as well as exhibitions of competition entries (2009-2011) and projects of various design bureaus from all over the world (2009 -2011).

кредо ФестИвАЛЮ fesTіvAl CReDO

Головна особливість та ідея CANactions − це вільний дух живого й конструктивного спілкування, поле комунікації між архітекторами (досвіченими й починаючими, іноземними й українськими), фахівцями в суміжних галузях, політиками, представниками влади, бізнесу й громадськості. Про це говорить і назва фестивалю. Серед віяла значень, які сходяться в слові CANactions, першими є «створюємо зв’язки» й «можемо діяти». Ці обидва смисли відповідають духу фестивалю.

The main idea and peculiarity of CANactions is a free spirit of lively and fruitful communication, an interactive platform for architects (experienced and young, foreign and Ukrainian), experts in related fields, politicians, state officials, businessmen and general public. In fact, the name of the festival speaks for itself. Among a variety of meanings of the word CANactions, the most important are “establishing connections” and “being able to act”. Both meanings reflect the spirit of the festival.

МЕТОЮ CANactions було і залишається: 1. вивчити та перенести в Україну (тобто зробити українськими) тенденції, принципи й технології сучасної світової архітектури й урбаністики; 2. зробити доступним для молодих українських архітекторів досвід західних зірок; 3. навчитися дивитися крізь призму цього нового знання на архітектурні задачі Києва й країни в цілому.

THE AIM OF CANactions has always been: 1. to master new trends, principles and technologies of modern world architecture and urbanism and introduce them in Ukraine (adapting them to our context); 2. to expose Ukrainian young architects to the experience of internationally recognized masters; 3. to learn to perceive architectural tasks in Kyiv and in the whole country in the light of this newly acquired knowledge.

Задачі фестивалю. Складові: − освітянська: Відкриваємо вікна, використовуємо світовий досвід. Вивчаємо СУЧАСНУ архітектуру. Навчаємося ВЧИТИСЯ. − громадянська: Не вичікуємо, ДІЄМО. Створюємо ГРОМАДЯНСЬКЕ СУСПІЛЬСТВО. КОНСОЛІДУЄМО; − ставлення до Природи, Міста: Не псуємо. Досягаємо SUSTAINABILITY. Поважаємо оточуюче середовище. - Дніпровські схили. АКЦЕНТУЄМО простір між історичним центром Києва та Дніпром як найціннішу територію, що презентує образ і дух Міста. Це величезний ресурс, який повинен мати особистий статус як з точки зору збереження, так і розвитку Міста. - ставлення до Будинку Архітектора та престижу професії: ВДИХАЄМО в Будинок Архітектора ЖИТТЯ, реалізуємо його потенціал як центру архітектурного життя країни. Підіймаємо статус професії.

Getting to know MODERN architecture, Learning to LEARN. − vision of nature, city. Developing responsible and attentive attitude to the surrounding environment. No marring. HIGHLIGHTING the place on the border between the historic centre of Kyiv and the Dnieper as the territory of exceptional importance for the evolution of the capital, which goes through the most prominent landmarks, representing the image and spirit of the City. − in the field of reconsidering (reclaiming) the important role of Kyiv House of Architects: giving the House of Architects a new BREATH OF LIFE, realizing its potential. Raising the status of the profession and of the House of Architects as the centre of architectural life in the country.

Міжнародний молодіжний архітектурний Фестиваль CANACTIONS 2011 проходив в Київському будинку Архітектора з 28 по 30 квітня цього року. Кількість слухачів перевищила самі неймовірні прогнози, − вона склала більш ніж півтори тисячі чоловік. Триденна програма фестивалю запропонувала гостям дуже насичений графік, за яким вони були зайняті з 10 ранку до 20 вечора (із трьома невеличкими перервами). Програма CANACTIONS 2011 поряд з очікуваними та вже традиційними формами, − майстер-класами, лекціями, презентаціями, виставками архітектурних проектів і конкурсом молодих українських архітекторів (що проводився втретє в рамках фестивалю), включала і зовсім нову подію, фестивальний дебют. Їм став Відкритий міжнародний конкурс «Благоустрій центральної частини м. Києва до Євро2012 та на перспективу», що проводився в Україні вперше і був організований Головним управлінням містобудування та архітектури виконавчого органу Київської міської ради. В рамках фестивалю пройшов фінальний етап конкурсу, − презентація, нагородження та преміювання кращих 9-ти проектів. Конкурс «Благоустрій… » зайняв центральне місце в програмі фестивалю, задав тематику багатьох круглих столів, що проводилися протягом останніх місяців під знаком CANACTIONS 2011, і визначив однойменну тему фестивалю: БЛАГОУСТРІЙ КИЄВА.

CANACTIONS 2011 international youth architectural festival took place in Kyiv House of Architects 28-30 April this year. The number of visitors exceeded the most improbable forecasts, amounting to more than a thousand and a half people. A three-day program of the festival was packed with various events from 10 in the morning to 8 in the evening (with three small breaks). Apart from traditional and expected forms – such as master-classes, lectures, presentations, exhibitions and competition of young Ukrainian architects (it was already the third time it had been held in the framework of the festival) – the program of CANACTIONS 2011 contained a totally new event, the so called festival debut. That was the Open international competition for the best Urban Landscape Design of the Central Part of Kyiv for Euro-2012 and for more distant future. It is the first competition of this kind in Ukraine, initiated by Kyiv Central Agency for Urban Planning, Architecture and Urban Design at Kyiv City State Administration. The final stage of the Competition – namely the oral presentation of the 9 short-listed competition entries, with subsequent award ceremony – was held within the framework of the festival. Actually, the Competition was the highlight of the whole festival, as it prompted the scope of topics for quite a few round table discussions that have been taking place over the past several months under the aegis of CANACTIONS 2011, and defined the name of the festival IMPROVING KYIV URBAN LANDSCAPE.

Андреас Клок Педерсен є партнером та провідним архітектором компанії BIG, яка розташована у Копенгагені. Він керує низкою проектів компанії, до числа яких належать конкурсні роботи, генплани, а також крупні проекти у Європі, центральній та південній Азії. Серед нещодавніх проектів варто зазначити конкурсний проект Гренландської національної галереї, який отримав першу премію, проект Міжнародного центру енергокомпаній Shenzhen International Energy Mansion (Шенжень, Китай), а також урбан-проект за назвою Loop City, робота над яким ще триває. Серед його проектів також можна відзначити: дослідження Urban Future Award для Audi, еко-проект на острові Зира в Азербайджані, музей Тамайо (Tamayo Museum), «Народна будівля» у Шанхаї (Ren Peoples Building), комплекс Lego Towers, район Kløvermark у Копенгагені, муніципальна бібліотека Scala Library, готель Arlanda. He is project leader on a number of BIG’s competitions, master plans and largescale projects in Europe, Central and Southern Asia. Most recently, Andreas has led the prize-winning competition for the Greenland National Gallery and the Shenzhen Energy Manson as well as the ongoing regional planning project the Loop City. His projects also count the Urban Future Award research project for Audi, the carbon neutral Zira Island in Azerbaijan, Tamayo Museum, Ren People’s Building, Lego Towers, Kløvermark, Scala Library, Arlanda Hotel and BIG’s contribution to the Venice Biennale in 2004 and 2010. In addition to managing competitions and concept development at BIG, Andreas runs an Architecture studio at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and lectures internationally on BIG’s current research and projects. Andreas is Guest-Professor at the AHO School of Architecture in Oslo Norway in the fall 2011. www.big.dk

Києва до Євро-2012», майстерклас, учасник виставки 2004 – отримав диплом Штутгартського університету 2004 – приєднався до архітектурного бюро EM2N 2009 – став одним з директорів EM2N Архітектори EM2N мають на меті створювати архітектуру, яка була б водночас міцною і особистісною і яка могла би у подальшому розкривати власний характер. Часом їхні проекти викликають неоднозначну реакцію у публіки, але автори не бачать у цьому великої проблеми. Створені ними архітектурні об’єкти можуть подобатися чи, напроти, викликати неприязнь, але нікого не залишать байдужими. Архітектори EM2N впевнені, що не буває одного єдиного правильного рішення. Усі проекти цієї студії мають справу з непередбаченим і навіть з випадковим. Саме тому, їхні автори схильні мислити сценаріями, працювати з гіпотетичними припущеннями і моделювати опозиційні варіанти подальшого розвитку. Кожна з цих проекцій випливає з різних припущень і має свою власну історію. Зі слів архітекторів EM2N, цю мету можна вважати досягнутою, якщо створений ними проект говорить сам за себе у контексті міської тканини.

Народився у Дармштадті у 1968 році. Вивчав ландшафтну архітектуру у Ганноверському технічному університеті. Працював у бюро професора Гюнтера Нагеля у Ганновері, а також в компанії Wehberg Eppinger Schmittke у Гамбургу. У 1996 році почалась його співпраця з TOPOTEK 1, і у 1999 році Лоренц Декслер став одним з директорів цієї студії. Він читає лекції у різних школах та інституціях і часто бере участь у журі міжнародних дизайнерських конкурсів. Головне завдання TOPOTEK 1 – це дизайн відкритих міських просторів. Пошук концептуальних проектних підходів, який базується на критичному розумінні іманентної реальності, виводить архітекторів TOPOTEK 1 до свідомих рішень щодо урбан-контексту. TOPOTEK 1 займається усіма етапами роботи над проектом аж до самої реалізації, пропонуючи проектні рішення для нових парків, скверів, спортивних майданчиків, дворів та садів. Усі проекти студії відповідають сучасним параметрам мінливості, комунікації та чуттєвості.

Lorenz Dexler was born in Darmstadt in 1968. He studied landscape architecture at Hannover Technical University. After working at the office of Prof. Günther Nagel in Hannover and at Wehberg Eppinger Schmittke in Hamburg, he began his collaboration with TOPOTEK 1 in 1996. In 1999 Lorenz Dexler became a managing partner at the studio. He is lecturing at a diversity of schools and institutions, and frequently taking part on international design juries. The central task of TOPOTEK 1 is the design of urban open spaces. The search for conceptual design approaches based on a critical understanding of immanent realities leads TOPOTEK 1 to decided statements concerning the urban context. Throughout design, planning, and construction TOPOTEK 1 offers solutions for independent new parks, squares, sports-grounds, courtyards and gardens. Вивчав архітектуру у Московському архітектурному інституті, а також в інституті Berlage (Нідерланди). Деякий час працював у бюро Альдо Ван Ейка та Тео Боша, після чого у 1999 році відкрив свій власний офіс. Архітектурне бюро Popov Architecten розташоване у Амстердамі (Нідерланди). Будучи прихильниками зеленої архітектури, у кожному своєму проекті архітектори Popov Architecten намагаються мінімізувати негативний вплив на навколишнє середовище, проте дбаючи про виразність та довговічність будівель. Проекти Popov Architecten є вдалим поєднанням програми з особливостями міста. Вони природно виростають з навколишньої дійсності при максимально ефективному використанні енергетичних та матеріальних ресурсів. У своїх проектах Popov Architecten використовують місцеві матеріали, уживають вторинне використання існуючих матеріалів та також з особливою увагою ставляться до роботи с сонячним світлом з метою закріплення зв’язку між об’єктом, що проектується, та його оточенням. «Ми завжди з особливою повагою ставимось до Природи та віддаємо їй першорядне місце, навіть у міському контексті, - каже Васілій Попов. – Ми постійно опановуємо нові та альтернативні методи будівництва, для поліпшення як естетичних, так і технічних параметрів будівель, а також для зменшення негативного впливу архітектурного об’єкту на навколишнє середовище».

Vassily studied architecture at Moscow Architectural Institute and The Berlage Institute, The Netherlands. After working at the office of Aldo van Eyck and Theo Bosch in Amsterdam, he began his own practice in 1999. Popov Architecten is a green architecture office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Our goal for every project is to shrink the ecological footprint while creating evocative and enduring buildings. Integrating program with the specifics of a site, our projects emerge naturally from their surroundings and use energy and material resources efficiently. We incorporate local materials, reuse existing materials and mark sunlight’s patterns in our work to reinforce the relationship of project to place. Nature is always carefully considered and celebrated, even in an urban setting. В 1991 р. почав працювати в Києві, зайнявши посаду начальника відділу координації діяльності місцевих органів архітектури та організації проектування Головного управління архітектури і територіального розвитку Держбуду України, з 1992 р. – призначений заступником начальника управління. В Київській міській державній адміністрації працював у 1993-1995 рр. на посаді першого заступника начальника Головного управління архітектури. За цей період підвищував свій професійний рівень у департаменті міської власності м. Единбург в Шотландії. Працював головним архітектором у вітчизняних та зарубіжних компаніях. З 2005 р. очолює створену їм проектну компанію ТОВ «Целина». Целовальник Сергій Анатолійович − практикуючий архітектор, який проектував та брав участь у проектуванні: житлового комплексу по вул. 40-річчя Жовтня, бізнес-центру «Андріївський плаза», багатофункціональних комплексів по вул. Серафимовича та Анрі Барбюса, 15, житлового мікрорайону по вул. Маяковського (м. Бровари) та багатьох інших об’єктів. У якості віце-президента, займається міжнародними справами Національної спілки архітекторів України.

SERGIY TSELOVALNYK, CHIEF ARCHITECT OF KYIV AND THE VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL UNION OF ARCHITECTS OF UKRAINE. Jury member of competition “Urban landscaping in Kyiv for Euro-2012”, master-class, exhibition. In 1975 he received a degree in architecture from Kyiv Institute of Civil Engineering and started to work as an architect in Sevastopol. In 1980 Sergiy was appointed chief artist of the city and in 1990 he became chief architect of Sevastopol. In 1985 Sergiy improved his professional competence at the USSR Derzhbud courses at Moscow Architectural Institute, and in 1990 he completed a post-graduate course at Moscow Academy of Social Sciences. In 1991 Sergiy Tselovalnyk started to work in Kyiv in the position of the head of coordination committee governing the work of local architectural authorities under the General Department of Architecture and Territorial Development at the Derzhbud (National Construction Office) of Ukraine. In 1992 he was appointed deputy head of the above mentioned department. During 1993-1995 Sergiy Tselovalnyk served as the first deputy head f the General Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at Kyiv City State Administration. Within this period of time he improved his professional level at the department of municipal services in Edinburgh, Scotland. Sergiy Tselovalnyk has worked as the principal architect in a number of offices both in Ukraine and abroad. He is a practicing architect and contributed to the following projects: residential complex on Sorokarichchya Zhovtnya str., “Andriyivsky Plaza” business-centre, multi-functional complex along Serafymovycha and Anri Barbusa streets, residential estate on Mayakovsky street (Brovary) and many other objects. In 2005 Sergiy Tselovalnyk founded his own architectural studio “Tsel&na”. Being vice-president of the National Union of Architects of Ukraine, he is responsible for the international relations of the Union.

З 1989 по 1992 рік він був головним архітектором архітектурного підрозділу фірми «Юність». З 1992 по 2004 – головний архітектор креативної архітектурної студії «Архітектурне ательє». З 2003 по 2004 рік працював керівником проектів в харківській фірмі «Атріум», а також в «Архітектурному Ательє». У 2004 році Віктор Зотов засновує в Києві архітектурне бюро “ZOTOV&CO”. Бюро спеціалізується на сучасній архітектурі та урбаністиці, орієнтуючись перш за все на європейську архітектуру. Його вихідним дизайнерським принципом є «робити правильно». З самого заснування бюро співпрацює з BIG (Данія), MAXWAN (Нідерланди), URBANAFFAIRS (Нідерланди), JSA (Нідерланди), Winkler (Німеччина), Another Architect (Німеччина), тощо. “ZOTOV&CO” є ініціатором та незмінним організатором CANactions.

VIKTOR ZOTOV was graduated from architectural faculty of Kharkov Construction Institute in 1986. From 1989 to 1992 he was a chief architect of projects at “architectural department” of firm “Yunost”. From 1992 to 2004 - a chief architect of projects at creative architectural studio “Architectural Atelier”. From 2003 to 2004 – a project leader in firm “Atrium”, Kharkov, and in “Architectural Atelier”, Mariupol. In 2004 Viktor Zotov founded an architectural bureau “ZOTOV&CO” in Kyiv. It is specialized in modern architecture & urbanism, orienting first of all to European architecture. Fundamental design point is to do RIGHT. Since establishing bureau he has been involved in collaboration with BIG (dk), MAXWAN (nl), URBANAFFAIRS (nl), JSA (nl), Winkler (de), Another Architect (de), etc. “ZOTOV&CO” is an initiator and a permanent organizer of CANactions. www.zotov.com.ua

МАРК ГЛАУДЕМАНС ПРОФЕСОР, ЄВРОПЕЙСЬКА УРБАНІСТИЧНА ПРОЕКТУВАЛЬНА ЛАБОРАТОРІЯ STADSLAB, НІДЕРЛАНДИ член журі Конкурсу молодих архітекторів України CANactions 2011, лекція, виставка Марк Глаудеманс є професором урбаністики в Університеті прикладних наук Фонтіс у Тілбурзі, Нідерланди. Він також займає посаду декана Тілбурзької Академії Архітектури і Урбаністики. Окрім диплому магістра з архітектури та урбаністики, Марк Глаудеманс захистив наукову роботу з теорії та історії архітектури. Марк Глаудеманс читав лекції у декількох університетах Голландії та за кордоном, та брав участь у багатьох міжнародних конференціях (Кармель, Стокгольм, Монреаль, Перт, Гонконг, Шанхай, Ханой, Лозанна, Турин, Стамбул, Дельфт тощо). У 2000 він заснував архітектурну компанію, яка надавала б консультації щодо розробки урбан-стратегій на замовлення як державних так і приватних клієнтів. У 2006 він заснував Європейську лабораторію урбан-дизайну Stadslab, яка є міжнародною програмою післядипломної освіти у рамках Тілбурзької Академії Архітектури і Урбаністики. Ця програма зорієнтована на роботу з малими містами Європи. Марк Глаудеманс є також членом декількох голландських та міжнародних організацій і консультантом Міжнародної асоціації розвитку міст (International Urban Development Association, INTA).

MARC GLAUDEMANS PH.D, MSC, STADSLAB, THE NETHERLANDS Jury of Youth competition CANactions 2011, lecture, exhibition Marc Glaudemans is professor of Urban Strategies at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Tilburg, Netherlands. He also holds his position of dean of the Academy of Architecture and Urbanism in Tilburg. Marc graduated in Architecture and Urbanism and holds a PhD in Architectural Theory and History. Marc Glaudemans lectured at several Dutch and International Universities and participated in many International conferences (Carmel, Stockholm, Montreal, Perth, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Hanoi, Lausanne, Torino, Istanbul, Delft, etc. In 2000 he started an architectural consultancy firm to work on urban visions and strategies for public and private clients. In 2006 he founded Stadslab European Urban Design Laboratory, as the postgraduate international programme of the Academy, aiming at medium sized European cities. Нова студія прагне до співпраці з потенційними користувачами їхніх послуг і завжди відкрита до нових ідей. На практичному рівні засновники нового об’єднання мають широкий досвід проектування різних об’єктів від невеличких садів і меблів до багатоповерхових офісів. Створюючи нове об’єднання, архітектори мають намір розширити цей досвід, зберігаючи динамічне розуміння гуманістичного масштабу. Офіс розташований у Нью-Йорку та Берліні.

The two met at SANAA in Tokyo were they have been working together for a combined ten years, 2005 through 2010. The new venture, June14 begins with a desire to make things, places and atmospheres for all kinds of people. In an old fashion sense, it may be a humanistic approach and in another sense it may simply be a generosity toward different ways of living and working. It stems from a belief that architecture can make things happen and that things can happen to architecture. As an office its aim is to exchange with its users. It is open to new ideas. On a practical level the principals have experience with a wide range of projects from small gardens and bespoke furniture to office towers. The intention is to expand that range while maintaining a dynamic understanding of the human scale. The office is based in New York and Berlin.

He is the Project Director and Lead Designer for numerous projects and winning competitions, including most notably the Sterling Prize nominee, the Phaeno Science Centre Wolfsburg, completed in November 2005. Christos led the competition design on various entries for the ZHA, including the Holloway Road Pedestrian Bridge (1999) , 1st prize- and the Phaeno Science Centre Wolfsburg (2000-2006). He has also lead the competition for seminal designs such as The Wakefield Art Gallery (2004), Connecticut Science and Exploration Centre in Hartford, CT (2004), the S.C. Johnson Wax Project Honour (2005) a prestigious extension to F.L. Wright’s Johnson Wax campus in Racine, Wisconsin, lead the competition for Eleftheria Square redesign in Nicosia, Cyprus-1st prize (2005) and the Miami Science museum- 2nd prize (2006). He has contributed to the design of various projects including the Sheik Zayed Bridge in Abu Dhabi (1998- ongoing), Rosenthal Contemporary Arts Centre in Cincinnati (completed 2003) and the design of the MAXXI National Centre for Contemporary Arts in Rome (2000-on going), and contributed in larger scale projects such as the Istanbul master plan for Kartal-Pendik in Istanbul (2006). Києва до Євро-2012», майстер-клас Ігор Марко керує проектами регенерації міського середовища та має чимало важливих з точки зору трансформацій проектів. Його фундаментальний підхід до урбанізму має на меті подолати розрив між різними професійними дисциплінами та забезпечити цілісний підхід до кожного проекту з самого початку розробки концепції до кінцевої реалізації. Ігор виріс і отримав архітектурну освіту у Чехословаччині, працював у Markrop Architects у Братиславі Ігор працював у Studio E Architects та Ian Ritchie Architects у Лондоні. У 1996, у співпраці з митцем Пітером Фінком, Ігор заснував архітектурну майстерню Art2architecture, з метою дослідити можливості міждисциплінарного підходу у дизайні. Разом вони виграли декілька важливих дизайнерських конкурсів та реалізували низку візіонерських проектів. Цей глибокий мистецький досвід допоміг Ігореві збудувати міцну основу для його унікального експериментаторського підходу до дизайну архітектурного середовища. У 2006 Ігор став одним із засновників архітектурного бюро FoRM Associates. ПЕТРА ХАВЕЛЬСКА магістр з архітектури, урбан-дизайнер, спеціаліст у сфері комунікації, FoRM Associates, Великобританія Петра вивчала архітектуру у Віденському Технологічному університеті та в Королівському Технологічному інституті KTH у Стокгольмі. IGOR MARKO MA Arch. ARB, architect & urban designer, partner FoRM Associates, Great Britain 2 prize of competition “Urban Landscaping in Kyiv for Euro-2012”, master-class Igor is responsible for design led urban regeneration projects, with a significant track record of transformative projects. His fundamental approach to urbanism is to bridge professional boundaries and integrity within each project from inception to completion. Igor grew up in Czechoslovakia, where he completed his architectural studies. He worked as an architect at Markrop Architects based in Bratislava. In London, Igor worked at Studio E Architects and Ian Ritchie Architects. In 1996 Igor co-founded Art2architecture with artist Peter Fink to explore interdisciplinary collaboration. Together they won several major design competitions and realized a number of visionary projects that form a part of FoRM’s heritage. In combination with his strong arts background, Igor developed a balanced foundation for his unique and experimental place-making approach. Igor became a founding partner of FoRM Associates in 2006. PETRA HAVELSKA MA Arch., urban designer & communicator FoRM Associates, Great Britain Petra has studied architecture at Vienna University of Technology and KTH School of Architecture in Stockholm. In 2006 she moved to London and worked for John McAslan & Partners Architects. Since 2006 Petra has worked with FoRM Associates. Petra was a contributor at the City Interventions initiative in Bratislava and Prague and actively participated in Havana Urban Design Charrettes in Cuba. Працюючи з багатьма різними темами, архітектори Maxwan відомі як автори таких проектів, як башта «Saw Tooth Tower» (Роттердам), Офіс на злітній полосі «Office On a Runway» (аеропорт Маастрихт Ахен) та 50 мостів для міста Утрехт. They are an international practice dedicated to contemporary architectural and urban design. Working on a broad variety of subjects, Maxwan have designed widely recognized projects such as the ‘Saw Tooth Tower’ (Rotterdam), the ‘Office On a Runway’ (Maastricht Aachen Airport) and 50 bridges for the City of Utrecht. Maxwan have made a name for themselves internationally with innovative proposals for the new town of Leidsche Rijn, NL (75’000 residents and a hidden highway), the 10’800 houses Master Plan for Barking Riverside London, and most recently the Master Plan ‘A101’ for a new city on the fringes of Moscow. JASON HILGEFORT - Urbanist | Architect | Public Space Designer - Associate Jason Hilgefort received a degree in urban planning and urban design at The University of Cincinnati (US). He went on to obtain his masters in architecture at The University of British Columbia (CA). Additionally, he has studied in China, Cuba, India, and Italy. Jason has worked in both the private and public sectors in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and Mumbai. Jason’s experience ranges from furniture design/fabrication; architecture; public space design; urban design; to large scale master planning. While at maxwan he has been involved in the Exhibition at the Rotterdam Biennale - 2009, House N - NL, Albino Alligator - Amsterdam, Central District Rotterdam, Ruggeveld – BE, Geneva - CH, Love Cove – Taiwan, Tallinn – EE, Quingpu – China, and Moscow A101. OUT OFFICE OF URBAN TERRAINS, USA 3 prize of competition “Urban Landscaping in Kyiv for Euro-2012”, master-class OUT is a multi dimensional practice that operates between disciplinary boundaries. We work in-between what is defined as architecture, landscape, planning, infrastructure, and art to create urban terrains through generative strategies. We investigate and create strategies of spatial production that test conditions of normalcy and exception. YEHRE SUH is a licensed architect in New York State, USA. She received her B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Industrial Design from Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea and her Masters in Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. From 2001 to 2009 she was the project architect at Weiss/Manfredi for award winning projects such as the Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle, which received the 2007 Veronica Rudge Green Prize for Urban Design from Harvard University and the Diana Center for Barnard College in New York City, which received the 2008 P/A Honor Award. She was also the project manager for the master plan phase for the Taekwondo Park, Muju Korea, which was the winning project from an international competition in 2008. Yehre Suh is a Lecturer of Architecture at Cornell University. Her work focuses on the study of spatial products and its political, social, economic ramifications relative to architectural, landscape, urban, and infrastructural networks. She is the recipient of the Graham Foundation Grant in 2008, Cornell Council for the Arts Grant in 2009, 2010 and the Rotch Foundation Fellowship in 2010 for her project Parallel Utopias: Strategies of Normalcy and Exception. KONRAD SCHEFFER received his German Diploma at the Brandenburg Technical University, where he was awarded the Walter-Henn-Prize for the Best German Graduation Project in 2008 by the German Architecture Association (Bund Deutscher Architekten). He received his Post-professional Degree on Architecture and Urban Design at Cornell University, College of Architecture, Art, and Planning, where he received the Mary Miller Lyons Award for exceptional ability and talent in architectural design. Ми віримо в те, що в цій дискусії молоді дизайнери мають зайняти важливу позицію, адже на кону стоїть наше майбутнє. Ми зацікавлені у знаходженні нових механізмів та стратегії, котрі випливають з царини архітектури але зовсім не обмежуються нею. Ми намагаємося винайти гнучкі та поступові стратегії, які зможуть впроваджувати зміни та фокусуватися на створенні загальних концепцій ніж автономних об’єктів. Ми всі з різних країн, і у кожного з нас є своє власне бачення створення сталого майбутнього за допомогою архітектурного дизайну. Кожнен з нас вже брав участь у серйозних архітектурних конкурсах, і зараз ми всі працюємо в різних проектних бюро в Норвегії та за кордоном.

We believe that young designers should have an important voice in this discussion, since it is our future that is at stake. We are interested in finding new mechanisms and strategies that originate from, but are not bound to the architectural realm alone. We strive to invent adaptable and transitional strategies that are able to incorporate change and focus on creating frameworks rather than autonomous objects. With different backgrounds and from different countries, each of us has experience in dealing with the subject of a sustainable future through architectural design. INDEX ARCHITECTURE, Australia is a Melbourne based architecture design and urbanism practice led by John Doyle and Laura Mártires. As a studio group INDEX is committed to pursuing architecture as a form of applied design research, and is engaged in a number of projects of varying scales and in differing contexts. This has included large scale urban, cultural and commercial competitions and speculative projects, as well as individual houses, interior fitouts, exhibitions and installations. Each project is considered as an opportunity to develop a unique design solution regardless of the projects scale or scope. JOHN DOYLE John was born and grew up in Melbourne. After studying at the University of Melbourne, he completed his professional bachelor of architecture at RMIT University, finishing with first class honours and the international architecture biennale student prize. From 2007-2009, he carried out an urban research project at Tokyo Institute of Technology. John has been involved with a number of high profile architectural practices including BARstudio, Tony Chi and Associates, Toyo Ito and Associates and LAB architecture studio. He was the project designer for a number large scale projects including the Guardian Towers project in Abu Dhabi, and Federation Square East in Melbourne. He is a currently an embedded research fellow and lecturer at RMIT and Monash Universities, and is leading ongoing design research projects in Australia and Japan. LAURA MÁRTIRES Laura was born in Faro in Southern Portugal. She completed her professional degree (Licenciatura) in Architecture at the Technical University of Lisbon. In 2004 she was awarded a Monbukagakusho scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Education to carry out master’s research at Tokyo University. Головне місце [одне з основних] у програмі Міжнародного молодіжного архітектурного фестивалю зайняв відкритий Міжнародний конкурс «Благоустрій центральної частини м. Києва до Євро-2012 та на перспективу». Серед багатьох моментів, що характеризують цей захід, спочатку вкажемо на три важливі обставини, які говорять про незаурядність події. Це (1) безпосередня участь міських органів влади в організації конкурсу, (2) прозорі умови, що забезпечили доступність участі в конкурсі претендентів будь-якої країни світу й (3) чесність і неупередженість суддівства. Що стосується останньої обставини, то трохи забігаючи уперед, скажімо, що вона забезпечувалася поперше, складом журі, і, по-друге, − результатами конкурсу. А саме: щодо журі, то разом з українськими архітекторами до його складу входили архітектори різних європейських країн, які представляли різні архітектурні бюро, студії й інститути; щодо результатів, то Першу премію отримали молоді колумбійські (не українські і навіть не європейські) архітектори.

The Open International Competition for the best Urban Landscape Design of the Central Part of Kyiv for Euro-2012 and for more distant future was the highlight (or, at least, one of the major events) of the International youth architectural festival. Among other things that characterize this event, it is worth mentioning three important circumstances that prove to the unprecedented nature of the whole event. These are (1) direct participation of local authorities in the organization of the competition, (2) transparent conditions that enabled participants from all over the world to take part in the competition, and (3) integrity and impartiality of the jury. As for the last circumstance, one should point out that this condition was guaranteed both by the selection of jury members and by the results of the competition itself. As far the jury is concerned, apart from Ukrainian architects serving on the jury there were also specialists from different European countries representing different design studios and institutions. As for the results of the competition, the First prize was awarded to young Colombian (not Ukrainian, and not even European) architects.

Конкурс «Благоустрій центральної частини м. Києва до Євро-2012 та на перспективу» був оголошений 20 грудня 2010 року Головним управлінням містобудування та архітектури виконавчого органу Київської міської ради (Київської міської державної адміністрації). Окрім фестивалю CANactions партнерами конкурсу були громадське об’єднання «Столичні ініціативи» та Національна спілка архітекторів України. Метою конкурсу було обирання кращого проекту благоустрою території київських схилів до Євро-2012 та на перспективу, а також визначення стратегічних принципів розвитку цієї території. З 28 по 30 квітня цього року в Київському будинку Архітектора пройшла фінальна частина конкурсу, яка включала презентації, нагородження й преміювання кращих проектів.

The Open International Competition for the best Urban Landscape Design of the Central Part of Kyiv for Euro-2012 and for more distant future was launched 20 December 2010. The Competition was initiated by Kyiv Central Agency for Urban Planning, Architecture and Urban Design at Kyiv City State Administration. Apart from CANactions festival, the competition was supported by “Capital City Initiatives” NGO, and the National Union of Architects of Ukraine. The aim of the Competition was to identify the most successful urban landscape design of the central part of Kyiv (Kyiv hills) within the framework of preparation for Euro-2012 and to outline general development principles of this territory for a more distant future. The final stage of the competition took place 28-30 April this year in Kyiv House of Architects and included oral presentations of short-listed entries and award ceremony.

Конкурс такого організаційного й професійного рівня проходив уперше в історії архітектурного життя України. Однак в контексті історії самого фестивалю він не був випадковою подією, − його поява була підготовлена спільним 10-тиденним проектуванням Воркшоп, що відбувся торік у рамках CANactions 2010, і створив прецедент спільної роботи західних й українських молодих і досвічених архітекторів. Воркшоп 2010, таким чином, підготував інформаційний і професійно-комунікативний ґрунт для нових архітектурних подій подібного роду. Такою подією в 2011 році і став Конкурс “Благоустрій...”.

In terms of organization and professionalism, this Competition was the first event of this kind in the architectural history of Ukraine. However, in terms of the history of the festival itself, this competition was not at all fortuitous. It was triggered by the joint 10-day workshop that took place within the framework of CANactions 2010 and set up a precedent of fruitful collaboration between western and Ukrainian young architects. Thus, Workshop 2010 prepared informational, as well as professional and communicative basis for further architectural events of this kind. Thus, the Open International Competition for the best Urban Landscape Design of the Central Part of Kyiv became this very event in 2011.

The object of design was the territory of Kyiv hills that stretches from Lvivska and Kontraktova squares to the National Museum of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) in the very centre of Kyiv and is extremely valuable for the Ukrainian capital city in terms of its historical, cultural, recreational, tourist and landscape potential. Each competition entry had to present a detail design of one of the suggested plots. Out of 7 suggested plots, European square (with access to the Dnieper and to the islands)

proved to be the most popular site. Some of the other popular plots (in decreasing order) were the Edge (tourist route), Poshtova square, Kyiv Dytynets, Peyzazhna alley, Kontraktova square, Andriyivsky descent, Khreshchatyk and the Square of Independence.

До участі в Конкурсі і його організації були залучені найкращі вітчизняні та іноземні фахівці у галузі архітектури, містобудування та ландшафтного дизайну. З 24-х іноземних фахівців, що приїхали на київський конкурс, і є представниками всесвітньо-відомих архітектурних брендів, досить назвати таких світових зірок як Лоренц Декслер (Topotek1/Німеччина), Фабіан Хьорманн (EM2N/Швейцарія), Андреас Клок Педерсен (BIG/Данія), Васілій Попов (Popov Architecten/Нідерланди). Разом з видатними українськими архітекторами − Сергієм Целовальником (нач. Головного Управління містобудування та архітектури, м. Київ), Ігорем Соколовим (заст. Thanks to a wide campaign on the Internet and other mass media the Competition excited an unprecedented attention of the whole architectural world. The statistics speaks for itself: more than 500 architects and design practices from 65 countries got registered on the Competition web-site, 50 participants from 16 countries submitted their design proposals, and 48 of them were accepted for the Competition. Leading Ukrainian and foreign experts in architecture, urban planning and landscape design were involved in the Competition and its organization. Some of the 24 foreign professionals who came to Kyiv for the Competition are representatives of worldfamous architectural brands. It is suffice to name just a few of them: Lorenz Dexler (Topotek1/Germany), Fabian Hoermann (EM2N/Switzerland), Andreas Klok Pedersen (BIG/Denmark), Vasiliy Popov (Popov Architecten/the Netherlands). Together with outstanding Ukrainian architects – Sergiy Tselovalnyk (head of Kyiv Central Agency for Urban Planning, Architecture and Urban Design), Igor Sokolov (deputy minister of regional construction and development of Ukraine), Volodymyr Shevchenko (“V. Shevchenko” design bureau, Kyiv) – they formed the Competition Jury. Apart from that they gave interviews and master-classes where they presented their unprecedented projects that enjoy a unique position in the realm of modern architecture.

The Jury selected 9 most successful projects and each of them received a prize. Their authors represented various countries in the world: the USA, Russia, Norway, the Netherlands, the UK, Australia, Colombia and Japan.

Конкурс «БЛАГОУСТРІЙ ЦЕНТРАЛЬНОЇ ЧАСТИНИ М. КИЄВА ДО ЄВРО-2012 ТА НА ПЕРСПЕКТИВУ» став знаковою подією одразу в декількох вимірах: у професійному: конкурсна специфіка, специфіка змагання сприяє виходу української архітектури на рівень професійного полілогу західних партнерів, законодавців архітектури сьогодення, і, відповідно, обміну знанням і технологіями в галузі урбаністики; у мультикультурному: українське архітектурне співтовариство як рівний партнер і приймальна сторона не тільки бере участь, але й створює професійне поле ефективної кросскультурної комунікації; у соціальному: конкурс демонструє дійсну можливість прозорої спільної роботи органів влади, визнаних фахівців у сфері архітектури й сучасної урбаністики, преси й громадськості; в історичному: конкурс дає можливість певним ідеям проекту-переможцю бути інтегрованими в генеральний план Києва 2025, тим самим актуалізуючи європейське майбутнє столиці; у медійному: високі рейтинги сайту конкурсу створили великий суспільний резонанс, що, своєю чергою, підвищує й розширює імідж Києва як сучасної європейської столиці.

The Competition URBAN LANDSCAPE DESIGN OF THE CENTRAL PART OF KYIV FOR EURO-2012 AND FOR MORE DISTANT FUTURE proved a remarkable event in a variety aspects: professional: the very nature of the Competition encourages Ukrainian architecture to join professional polylogue with western colleagues, who are trendsetters in architecture at the moment, which in its turn facilitates exchange of knowledge and technologies in the sphere of urban design; Multicultural: Ukrainian architectural community acts as an equal partner and host, not only taking part in but also creating a professional field for effective intercultural communication; social: the Competition proves that a joint work of authorities, renowned experts in architecture and modern urbanism, mass media and general public is a quite possible thing; historical: the Competition makes it possible to incorporate certain ideas suggested in the winning entry into the comprehensive plan of Kyiv 2025, which promises a true European future for our capital city; media: huge popularity of the Competition web-site created a major public resonance, which in its turn, improves the image of Kyiv as a modern European capital.

The principles of design work, outlined in the competition brief, such as eco-friendliness, development of tourism, optimization of public spaces, preservation of unique Kyiv landscape and cultural heritage landmarks – support the overall orientation towards modern principles of contemporary architecture and urban design and are in keeping with the general CREDO of CANactions.

СТРАТЕГІЯ ПРОЕКТУ Зазначена в проекті мета − поєднання центру міста з набережною річки − втілюється завдяки двом основним планувальним елементам. Відновлення берегової лінії пропонується здійснити за рахунок пішохідних мостів – спеціальних конструкцій, що поєднуватимуть горішню частину схилів із набережною. Кожен міст складатиметься з бетонного перекриття, опертого на рівномірно розташовані стовпи. На думку авторів проекту, мости будуть в змозі забезпечити найбільш простий і прямий доступ до Дніпра для мешканців міста, що не вимагатиме призупинення дорожнього руху вздовж набережної. Вони являтимуть собою гнучкі багатофункціональні об’єкти, до яких, окрім садово-паркової, можуть бути включені культурна, торгівельна і рекреаційна функції. З часом, в залежності від потреб міста, мости можуть еволюціонувати: так, на них можна буде вирощувати парки, встановлювати мистецькі об’єкти та вуличні меблі, їх також можна буде без зайвих зусиль пристосувати до катання на санчатах і лижах, переобладнати під хату-читальню або кафе. Друге основне пропонування проекту полягає у відновленні Крайки шляхом реконструкції наявного маршруту і додавання нових структурних елементів, таких як кільцеві вузли. Відновлена туристична стежина вздовж Дніпровських схилів складатиметься з двох частин: бетонованої доріжки для велосипедистів і дерев’яного променаду для пішоходів. Вона має бути добре освітлена, доступна для пересування людей із фізичними вадами (шляхом спорудження спеціальних пандусів), а також пристосована для різних типів руху і занять спортом, таких як прогулянки, біг, катання на роликах і ковзанах та ін…

The efforts of the Kyiv Central Department for Urban Planning in hosting the European Football Championship Finals in 2012 must be seen as means to an end, not the end in itself. We strongly believe that the Dnieper River embankment recuperation and reinvigoration is but a mere step in transforming and strengthening the entire Ukrainian region. Just like the Dnieper is a geographical unit, the correspondence between city and nature must be carefully planned. We offer a broader view of the potential that this small intervention can actually undertake in eventually transforming the region. More important than just improving the embankment, the city must offer strong connections that lead to the different natural resources and enliven the city. Just like Berezina is an affluent of the Dnieper, pedestrian and bike promenades should become “urban affluents” of the Dnieper, existing forests and mountains. RECLAIMING THE SHORE - Kyiv Landbridges Problem: The highway acts as a barrier between the city and the river. Solution: Reconnect the city and the river through landbridges. CURRENT CONDITION: The highway creates an impenetrable barrier between the City and the River. THE LANDBRIDGE STRATEGY - THE CITY MEETS THE WATER: This infrastructure allows people, vegetation and wildlife to reach the water directly. No need to interrupt a main traffic artery to achieve a strong connection with the river. Landbridge Structure and Economy Each landbridge is supported by evenly spaced concrete piers that support a concrete slab. The construction process (as opposed to a tunnel) does not interrupt traffic along Nabarezhne road making it a cheaper, faster and more convenient solution for the city. FIRST STAGE IMPLEMENTATION - TEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE As host of the UEFA EURO 2012, it’s important for Kyiv to be able to show its history, culture and all of its potential to visitors and spectators. Yet time is scarce and there can only be so much you can do in the year that it is left for the inauguration game. We propose a series of temporal urban interventions that will produce the desired results while taking pressure off the permanent improvements…

У довгостроковій перспективі Дніпровський парк може перетворитися на один з найвідоміших у світі урбанізованих річкових берегів. У такому разі планувальні засоби слід спрямувати на поступове витворення на київських схилах розгалуженої мережі зв’язків, об’єктів і нашарувань різного рівня з метою становлення на цій території комплексного урбаністичного ландшафту нового типу. Першою чергою йдеться про поновлення зв’язків на всій площі київських пагорбів. Архітектори пропонують як відновлення старих ланок і реконструкцію наявних просторів, так і нові інтервенції. Зокрема, проект передбачає відновлення виходу на Пейзажну алею з Львівської площі, упорядкування розташування автотранспорту на Контрактовій площі, перетворення Поштової площі на пішохідну зону з виходом до Дніпра. Окремі ділянки на пагорбах можуть перетворитися на берегові тераси, що забезпечуватимуть зручний спуск на набережну. З нових інтервенцій слід, зокрема, згадати розширення ст. м. «Дніпро» з метою включення озелененого культурного центру. Велика вага у формуванні Дніпровського парку припадає на Крайку. Її відтворення передбачає прокладення інфраструктурної осі, стратегічне значення якої для парку не змінюватиметься, незважаючи на плин часу. В зв’язку із цим важливо вже на даному етапі запропонувати комплексний, мультимодальний підхід до дизайну цього маршруту. Основу Крайки становитиме пішохідний променад, обладнаний спеціальною системою дорожнього покриття, ефективною з погляду ліквідації розривів і забезпечення безперервного, безперешкодного й комфортного пересування. До неї додаються інтегровані вуличні меблі, освітлення, а також інформаційне забезпечення і вказівники. Окремі ділянки доріжки в місцях контакту з пагорбами отримають індивідуальне дизайнерське рішення, в залежності від особливостей рельєфу…

The Dnieper River Park is an idea that instantly creates something greater than the sum of the existing and often disconnected present realities. Dnieper River Park is an idea based on green and blue urbanism giving the citizens of Kiev the opportunity to start thinking about its river and adjoining land in a coherent and aspirational way. It’s a once a generation opportunity for Kiev to start to fix some of the things that are not working on the greater scale as well as to enable a sustainable transformation of the strategic relationships between larger social, natural, civic and economic ecologies. Driven by the demands of 21st century living and working our approach suggests a new mind-set, in which the transformation and reintegration with the Dnieper River is seen as a catalyst for change - as prototype for a new relationship, a smarter relationship. Fifteen years from now, people arriving into Kiev will see the city’s Dnieper River and its slopes not as an obstacle to be overcome, but as world class destinations to discover. Whilst initially meaning many different things to many different people, as repository of vast and historically accumulated human experience and endeavors – the Dnieper River Park as big idea will ultimately converge with the future of Kiev as the centre of community life and enterprise. curating vision through time The delivery of the Dnieper River Park as a strong recognizable brand equaling other world famous riverfronts and parks will require radically different way of thinking than that which formed Kiev in the 19th and 20th century . Невеличкі структури, розкидані вздовж обраної території, сприятимуть використанню наявних та формуванню нових інфраструктурних систем. Інформаційні пункти, невеличкі крамниці, туалети, кафе й оглядові вежі будуть розміщені у стратегічно важливих для Краю місцях, щоб реактивувати занедбаний ландшафт і поновити зв’язки між нижньою, проміжною та верхньою зонами відповідної території. Самоґенеративну інфраструктуру «інфраландшафтів» також можна охарактеризувати як «нестримну» (versus невизначену) і «дику» (versus природну). Прорізи у ключових місцях схилів, які пропонують здійснити архітектори, складатимуться з типових елементів, виготовлених із металевої сітки. Подібна фасадна система сприятиме розростанню в’юнких та повзучих рослин, зокрема квітів, що забезпечуватимуть різне поєднання кольорів і ступеня прозорості в залежності від пори року. З часом, у випадку, якщо структура буде активно використовуватись, залишатиметься доступною і популярною серед відвідувачів, до неї можна буде додавати нові функції. Натомість складові, що вийшли з ужитку, зможуть швидко перетворитися на природні руїни, визначаючи характер цієї місцини.

With the modern expansion and densification of the city, the Dnieper’s Edge is the last remaining territory of Kyiv’s urban development. Due to its historic significance with a high density of historical sites and monuments, and the challenging topography for development, the prehistoric landscape has remained an attractive “odd lot” for the city of Kyiv. As an odd lot, the Edge has been left empty with deposits of trash and remnants of old structures, rusty chainlink fences and unyielding weeds and vines covering all of this. Infrascape proposes to utilize this characteristic of the site as an infrastructural strategy for the area. The Edge is to be proposed as a comprehensive archival site for the history of Kyiv, an active cross-culture connector to all the institutional and noninstitutional sights of interest in Kyiv as well as providing physical accessibility to the water’s edge. The Edge is divided into two areas. The Upper Edge and the Lower Edge. The Upper Edge is the area between Michaylo Grushevsky Street and the Edge, which is the pedestrian walkway along the edge of the high point along the bank. This zone is lined with a series of well defined tourism, historical, cultural, sports, leisure, business areas starting from the National Museum of History of great Patriotic War, Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Park Slavy, Mariinskyi Park, City Gardens, Government District, Khreschatiy Park, to Volodymyr’s Hill. The Lower Edge is the “left over” green belt that is in between the Edge pathway and the Neberezhne Roadway along the waterfront. It supports the Upper Edge as backdrop and foreground landscape and functions as an unintentional greenbelt by blocking circulation across towards the river bank. The Lower Edge is a repository of monuments, statues and architectural ruins where political, social, cultural memory is materialized and inserted for posterity and then is left to the natural elements. It is a dumping ground as well as a cherished forest of memories and the numerous artifacts dispersed throughout the site become location identifiers and place makers of what would otherwise be neglected spaces. The once magnificent Green Theater, despite its decay and “natural” landscape interventions is an active party scene and a piece of the old fortress that was not claimed as part of the higher cultural institutions is now utilized for rock climbing. Old abandoned military tunnels that did not have any historical merit are destinations for explorative tours. The two bands of the Edge form a unique opportunity and experience that would attract short term visitors as well as resolving long term transportation and accessibility problems…

Проектувальник: Play, Японія Архітектори: Кен Аокі, Каміл Злотисек, Масайоші Мацубара, Кацуя Судзуки, Сава Белінскі СТРАТЕГІЯ ПРОЕКТУ Проект має на меті розкрити потенціал розвитку території Дніпровських пагорбів, враховуючи стрімкий розвиток Києва, населення якого до 2030 року має зрости ще на 1 млн. чоловік. Запропонований архітекторами план розвитку цієї території передбачає три кроки. На першому етапі слід скористатися Євро-2012 для того, щоб розширити публічний простір на пагорбах. Насправді, це може бути низка нових громадських осередків. Так, на Європейській площі проектувальники запланували спорудити колоподібний пішохідний міст. Так само в ландшафті пагорбів, багато в чому й досі подібного до лісу, можуть з’явитися нові острівці публічності. Наприклад, в районі ст. м. «Арсенальна», на схилі можна обладнати майданчик із обслуговувальними функціями, такими як туалет, кафе, крамниці, озеленення… На другому кроці, до 2018 року нові публічні місця поєднуються одне з одним через спеціальний публічний перехід. Його прокладення під землею, як вважають архітектори, не має зашкодити місцевому ландшафту. Перехід буде обладнаний всіма вигодами, такими як опалення, струм і водопостачання, утворюючи комфортну кліматичну зону для тривалого перебування. Подекуди він виходитиме на поверхню як пішохідний міст; у кожному випадку, перехід матиме багатоманітні зв’язки з горішнім ландшафтом через спеціальні люки, сходи та ескалатори. Споруда також забезпечуватиме функцію пересування пішки й на велосипеді. Третя фаза розвитку до 2025 року передбачає наповнення переходу розмаїттям урбаністичних функцій, таких як готель, театри, бібліотеки, офіси та ін. Нові будівлі представляють собою розширення наявного ландшафту в бік Дніпра, що не спотворюватиме панораму київських гір.

The proposal site is located between Dnieper river and the city center. This site has great potential. It has good accessibility from the city, an environmental connection with the Dnieper river, and green spaces with lots of trees and spectacular views over the river. In response to the prospected population growth of 1 million by the year 2030, city functions need to be extended and upgraded. How can KYIV extend its functionality while maintaining the advantages of the site at the same time? How can KYIV become a super modern city with a beautiful historic city center, modest skyline, sustainable transportation network and green spaces? How can KYIV utilize it’s maximum potential for growth without compromising it’s integrity? 3 STEP DEVELOPMENT We are proposing a strategy of a long term (3 STEP) DEVELOPMENT using the opportunity afforded by the EURO 2012 to consolidate public space and extend city function on the nominated site. This project will represent the progress of KYIV for the present and future generations. STEP1 - 2012 PUBLIC POINTS By EURO 2012 in 2012, rather than developing the entire site, we propose to create public points by locating them carefully in the existing urban context. One of them would be a round pedestrian bridge in the European Square. It would be a non-automotive transportation hub (pedestrian, bicycle, etc) on the square which is now dominated by cars. It would not be a single-function bridge only designed for traffic, but also a public space with islands of steps which are isolated from the traffic flow, public toilets and kiosks. Moreover, the bridge encircles the large rounded screen on which football matches, tourist information, or advertisements can be shown. Another public point would be the functional public space in the middle of Sylvan park, a place which is visited by many tourists. The proposal is to make indentured area which can be used in many public ways. Since the space is isolated acoustically and visually from the park by being indented in the earth, people can enjoy the nature and the city simultaneously. Another proposal is a sub-level area at the Arsenal metro station housing amenities such as toilets, cafes, shops and greenery. This space will be connected with the metro station, while remaining open to sunlight and fresh air…

Такий підхід дозволяє видокремити дві основні планувальні складові. Перша з них – новий урбаністичний інтерфейс – передбачає створення віртуального урбаністичного простору. Останній, своєю чергою, відіграє дві головні функції. З одного боку, він діє як нове глобальне інформаційне середовище, що забезпечує комунікацію, доступ до інформації та подій, включаючи і ті, що стосуються міського планування, архівів та ін. З другого, – інформаційний інтерфейс дозволяє здійснювати громадський контроль за розвитком міста, моніторинг всіх нових планувальних ініціатив, а також організовувати і проводити дискусії, референдуми, в т. ч. стосовно зміни статусу територій, ухвалення рішень із забудови і т.д. Таким чином, за рахунок віртуальних мереж довкола фізичного простору пагорбів формується нова комунікативна спільнота. Другим планувальним елементом є край або територія між центром міста та річковим узбережжям, зелені легені Києва. У відповідності до поліфункціонального зонування територія розподіляється на сім основних ділянок, кожна з яких отримує зв’язок між горішньою частиною схилів та набережною. Ділянки, з одного боку, включатимуть стандартні елементи планувальної інфраструктури, такі як викладений дошками променад, пішохідний місток, ліхтар, обладнаний сонячними панелями, і оглядова вежа. З іншого боку, кожна з них отримає індивідуальний ландшафтний дизайн, в залежності від локальних особливостей рельєфу й озеленення...

The project is an initiative of the city, consisting of two main provisions: 1)New urban interface – the creation of new urban virtual space. This new entity brings the two functions. The first – the function of a new global information environment in which there is communication, informational sharing, access to any events online as well as any public information about city archives, media, social network. The second – a broad space of public control over the urban environment, the ability to monitor all the new urban initiatives for each resident, the system of the discussions, referendums, decisions on the status of a territory, territory value management. This kind of virtual information allows you to associate the city as a physical object, and its residents, as users of the network. 2)The Edge- The zone between the city and the river, the green lungs of the city. We consider this territory as a certain field of the projection of the major program areas: sports, recreation, art, religion, history, memory, social and political activism. In accordance with this division, we divide the territory into seven zones, seven links the city with the waterfront as a new urban space. Three basic ways to link all seven zones into a single closed system so that people can move and participate in all aspects of city life. On the way there are meadows, which varies depending on the zone to which they belong. Each zone is allocated a small viewing towers, signs made of light virtual space. Continuing to move down the river, we pass through the crossings over the highway, separated from the waterfront with green wall, we get on great pedestrian boulevard, the embankment, carrying a feature of the new urban space. The main qualities of a new urban initiative are: openness (the ability to pass-through access from anywhere in the city to previously inaccessible places), the lightness and transparency of the structures (made of light wooden structures), environmental friendless and efficiency (the use of solar panels in the street lanterns, green barrier to the waterfront).

Оскільки наразі місто залишається відірваним від ріки, першим кроком у напрямі до створення парків є поновлення і реконструкція наявних на пагорбах спусків: доріжок, ескалаторів і парадних сходів. Планувальний каркас, що поєднуватиме парки в єдине ціле, включатиме чотири основні осі. Західна межа ділянки витлумачується як всуціль залитий світлом бульвар, витворений шляхом спеціального підсвітлення фасадів. Культурно-історичні пам’ятки, розташовані на верхівці пагорбів, пропонується пов’язати між собою в єдиний туристичний маршрут. На краю схилів організовується хвиляста стежка, обсаджена рослинами з усієї України. На набережній взаємодія пішоходів з Дніпром уможливлюється за рахунок вкритого дошками променаду. Відновлення цих чотирьох планувальних осей є передумовою для нанизування додаткових об’єктів. З погляду ландшафту, це може бути низка «свіжих» несподіванок, – від простого палісадника до лижної гірки, романтичної галявини або меморіального схилу. Вздовж набережної Дніпра пропонується створити нові споруди і простори, пристосовані до води: напівзатоплені острівці з прогулянковими доріжками, пристань, розважальний парк, музей сучасного мистецтва та ін…

INTRODUCTION This project sets out not to create one park, but many great parks. Given the shear scale of the project the idea is not to create a singular grand vision, but to create a framework for thinking about the idea of a park that is intrinsically related to how to successfully implement the park over time. In reality, most parks are composed of a series of separate spaces that are somehow bound together. This design embraces that reality and showcases it. This diverse set of spaces combined with the four binding elements, shown raw, gives the park its distinct identity. The park blends the historical with the contemporary. The view of the panorama of the park is highly valued by the citizens of the Ukraine. Historically, the hillside was a series of beautifully undulating hills that are now masked by a mass of monotonous trees. By diversifying the hillside, both in terms of planting and in terms of program, the park will reveal and represent a much deeper meaning to the Ukrainian people. The park will serve as a show case of the rich, diverse of the ecology of the Ukraine. Amongst these landscape elements will exist a wide array of contemporary recreational activities, allowing the people a higher quality of life. In the end, the hillside will go beyond being a mere icon and will function as an illustration of the character of Ukrainian society. FULL SITE The reality of the site extends far beyond its borders. It functions as a key link between distant forests as well as for the marshlands of the Dnieper. Further, the site not only is adjacent to the city centre, but it resides in the center of the metropolitan region and therefore at the core of the regional park system. The park will function as a ‘hub park’. It is the crux of the system allowing for the linking of all the adjacent parks and open spaces. As the core in this network, the park will foster a variety of habitats that allow for the rich diversity of plants and animals of the region to find space in the park. Additionally, a variety of habitats will be created to foster homes of the endangered species in The Red Book of the Ukraine. Проект передбачає поділ території на три частини, для кожної з яких пропонується особливий підхід. Верхня частина пагорбів, на якій розташована більшість історико-культурних і паркових пам’яток не зазнає суттєвих змін, за винятком загального поліпшення рівня громадського благоустрою: встановлення туалетів, інформаційно-туристичних пунктів, а також невеликих торгівельних кіосків. Наразі територія пагорбів, фактично, перегороджує доступ до Дніпра. З іншого погляду, завдяки щільному озелененню вона є зоною перепочинку від нестримної урбаністичної напруги метрополії. Очевидно, що територія схилів не може бути місцем для капітальної забудови. В проекті визначено кілька ключових місць, призначених для прокладення нових зв’язків задля забезпечення на пагорбах системи туристичних маршрутів. Йдеться, насамперед, про поперечні зв’язки між містом і рікою, вздовж яких також можуть подекуди розташовуватись невеликі обслуговувальні споруди. Набережна залишається відірваною від міста через багатосмугове, неподоланне шосе. Доступ до узбережжя можна забезпечити за рахунок пішохідних мостів і спеціальних перекриттів у ключових місцях виходу до Дніпра. На противагу Стратегії розвитку Києва до 2025 року, архітектори пропонують зберегти трамвайні лінії, а в подальшому на основі рельсового сполучення організувати спеціальний туристичний маршрут вздовж Дніпра. Це, в свою чергу, передбачатиме додавання нових туристичних і рекреаційних об’єктів, а також вузлів пересадки для громадського транспорту (наприклад, з трамваю на річкове таксі)…

As the name suggests, ‘Eroding the Edge’ seeks to break down and blur the barrier between the city and its river. INTRODUCTION At present the west bank of the Dnieper in Kyiv can be divided into three zones : -the upper city - the hills - the embankment (waterfront) The primary of objectives of the master plan and detailed area proposal for the ‘Eroding the Edge’ scheme is the reintegration of the city of Kyiv with the waterfront and water of the Dnieper River, the connection of major components of the urban fabric and tourist precincts, as well as the proposal of world class commercial, entertainment and tourist facilities along the waterfront – For 2012 and the years beyond. 2012 PROPOSAL The proposal calls for the complete removal of parking from the square, as well as the area in front of the Kiev River Port building. Parking will be retained along the waterfront to the north. Access to the River Port Building and Poshtova Square post office station building will be via foot. The existing formal garden arrangement and fountain will be removed to make way for a landscaped square including a number of small service kiosks comprising public toilets, information and light retail facilities. The post office station building will be refurbished and reconfigured as a tourist service unit and historical information hub. Along the river front a new board walk will be installed, to be serviced by a series or café/bar kiosks that will open up and activate the space in front of the port building. FUTURE PROPOSAL Following the completion of the UEFA 2012 Euro Championships the new spaces in the square will be reconfigured for ongoing tourist and retail program uses. In the longer term the connection through form the funicular railroad to the waterfront precinct and along the river front to new activity areas along the water front to the south will be reinforced with the construction of a new pedestrian deck, retail and entertainment development over Naberezhne Highway. This proposal will allow for a continuous pedestrian pathway that loops all the way from the upper city of Kyiv, down through Poshtova square to the pedestrian footbridge to the south and access to the east bank of the Dnieper…

СТРАТЕГІЯ ПРОЕКТУ Виходячи з того, що велосипед є найзручнішим і найбезпечнішим транспортним засобом для пересування на території парку, архітектори пропонують створити в межах київських пагорбів велосипедну систему спільного користування. Система буде доступною для всіх, незалежно від віку, фізичних можливостей і соціального статусу. Опікуватися нею може спільне приватнодержавне підприємство. Насправді, існують різні системи велосипедного руху. Архітектори взяли за основу систему, яка використовується в Осло, Стокгольмі і Барселоні. В принципі, можна було б також звернутися до досвіду таких міст, як Париж, Лондон, Мюнхен, Гельсинки, Краків та ін. Попри деякі відмінності спільним для всіх систем є можливість розміщення реклами на велосипедах, з якої значною мірою фінансується подальший розвиток інфраструктури; якісний та виразний дизайн транспортних засобів, а також таких елементів інфраструктури як велосипедні станції та реєстраційні системи зі спеціальним перепустками для користувачів. Реалізація велосипедної системи передбачає одночасну розбудову паркової інфраструктури. Окрім реконструкції наявної мережі доріжок, планується прокладення нових – насамперед, на верхньому плато пагорбів так, щоб уможливити зручність пересування між культурно-історичними пам’ятками, від Андріївського узвозу до Музею Великої Вітчизняної війни. Також необхідним є встановлення додаткових інформаційних вказівників. Проте найголовнішим елементом майбутнього велосипедного маршруту є павільйони, в яких можна буде залишити велосипед, попоїсти, придбати сувеніри та відпочити. Архітектори розробили типові проекти павільйонів місткістю від 20 до 40 велосипедів, кожен з яких складатиметься зі збірних модулів і матиме графічно виразні фасади, перетворюючись надвечір на додаткове джерело освітлення в парку.

KIEV IN 2012, KIEV AFTER 2012? 2012 is near and time is short. A smart intervention is necessary: a grand effect with limited investment. UEFA 2012 generates a unique momentum for the city of Kiev, offering great investment potential that should be used in the best interest of the city of Kiev. By investing in a better infrastructure above anything else, the richness of the area can not only be used better, but will also increase its value for tourist, investors and the inhabitants of Kiev. SHARED BIKE SYSTEM Bikes are the ideal mode of transportation to navigate the park, allowing for increased use of different areas of the park and a better circulation, making the park more accessible for everyone. To use the momentum generated by the UEFA cup 2012 will make it easy to attract both investors and users for the scheme, allowing Kiev authorities to easily finance a sustainable public infrastructure for the city. The bike system can either be run by a private company or by a joint public-private enterprise. Thus investment for the city of Kiev is low, while the effect is high. Various bike systems are available. The bike used in the illustration is an example of the system that is used in Oslo, Stockholm and Barcelona. Other examples of bike system are used in Paris, London, Prague, Zurich, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, Parma Krakow and many more. Some key features are common to all systems: the possibility to advertise on the bike (largely finances the system), a sturdy bike with recognizable bike design accompanied with a docking station and a registration system with bike-passes that allows identification of its users…

СТРАТЕГІЯ ПРОЕКТУ Планувальні засоби цього проекту спрямовані на те, щоб поєднати одна з одною ізольовані паркові зони на правому березі Дніпра і утворити зелений коридор, під кронами дерев якого можна буде дістатися від Володимирської гірки до Ботанічного саду. Це основне завдання проекту реалізується через налагодження в межах паркового ландшафту багатоманітних зв’язків. В місцях, де парк перерізають дороги, пропонується спорудити пішохідні мости, зокрема на Володимирській гірці. Від Печерського ландшафтного парку до Ботанічного саду рекомендовано прокласти канатну дорогу, а паралельно до стін Києво-Печерської Лаври – спеціальний міст, який покращить сполучення між парком Слави і територією Нижніх печер. Європейська площа має бути повністю віддана в користування пішоходам: автомобілі можуть розміститися під землею, тоді як на її поверхні залишаться лише зелені зони для вболівальників. Основною артерією, що поєднуватиме верхнє місто з набережною, є підземний міст. Він буде доступним для пішоходів і забезпечуватиме потрапляння до ресторану й оглядової платформи, а також підземного паркінга і транспортного тунелю. Проект також включає пересадочні вузли, що забезпечуватимуть взаємодію підземного моста з іншими видами транспортування вздовж схилів, такими як трамвай і водне таксі. Таксі дозволить легко і швидко дістатися до пляжів Труханова острова. Трамвай із часом може стати найбільш популярним транспортом, так що проектувальники навіть пропонують створити на набережній спеціальний музей, де були б представлені трамваї зі всього світу. Набережна перетворюється на неперервну лінію для пересування пішки й на велосипеді. Вздовж бульварів, пішохідних променад і велосипедних доріжок розташовуються затишні кафе з виходом до води.

KYIV ENJOYS A UNIQUE URBAN SITUATION. The city, despite constant urbanistic growth and consolidation, has preserved almost untouched natural territories in the very center. There are, however some rare, but irreparable examples of commercial architecture. Kiev is initially located in extremely beauty terrain. The silhouette of its quay with golden domes which are covered in the green foliage, form the icon of the city. Natural green slopes can become the feature of a city attracting tourists and improving the quality of life of local inhabitants. The city cannot replace nature, it is not for cars, and it is first of all for people, for their harmonious coexistence with the environment. 2SIDES, UP Therefore it is offered to consider the situation most carefully in the project, having emphasized the features of the city and transferring its center to the green islands “2 SIDES”: Trukhanov and a forest park on a right-bank part of Kiev. The new ecocenter neighbors on to historical territory of Kiev and creating a steady symbiosis. ECO TRAVEL Isolated park zones on the right coast of the Dnieper together form a green corridor which links Vladimir descent with the botanical garden under the crones of trees, without meeting steams of traffic and enjoying a pleasant break from urban environment. CONNECTIONS It is offered to use foot bridges in places where parks are interrupted by roads (people have priority over cars) that form a system of green walking paths, for example, over the Vladimir descent. Сars are removed from sight under the earth on the European square which is an important pivotal point, where the city meets the green belt. So, the square becomes green and pedestrian. It is offered to organize a cable car from Pechersk Landscape park to the Botanical garden which further emphasizes the green corridor and overcoming of huge rupture over Navodnitsky overpass. The bridge along the wall of the Kiev Lavra is erected to improve the connection between Landscape park and Glory park, and also to open a new observation platform.

MAIN POINT The Underground bridge becomes the basic cross-section artery connecting the quay and the top city. It will be transformed into a pedestrian-only area. В результаті організації Конкурсу «Благоустрій центральної частини міста Києва до Євро-2012 та на перспективу» вдалося визначити низку стратегічних принципів і практичних дій, згідно з якими має відбуватися подальший розвиток київських пагорбів до Євро-2012 та на перспективу.

The Competition for the best Urban Landscape Design of the Central Part of Kyiv for Euro-2012 and for more distant future brought about a number of strategic principles and practical actions for the further development of the territory in question. СТРАТЕГІЧНІ ПРИНЦИПИ Основні результати Конкурсу мають бути інтегровані до Стратегії розвитку Києва до 2025 року, що наразі перебуває на стадії громадського обговорення. Зокрема, йдеться про: – закріплення за київськими пагорбами статусу особливої, виняткової за значенням ландшафтно-культурно-рекреаційної зони в масштабах всієї Київської метрополії; – розвиток цієї території на основі принципів стійкого, екологічнозбалансованого і соціально-орієнтованого планування; – забезпечення переваги на території громадських, рекреаційних, туристичних, спортивно-оздоровчих, культурно-освітніх, мистецьких та ландшафтних функцій; – забезпечення на території охорони, збереження та вивчення пам’яток історії та архітектури, а також їхнього поступового, відповідного до міжнародного законодавства з охорони культурної спадщини, залучення до актуального розвитку міста; – забезпечення додаткових обслуговувальних, торгівельних та комерційних функцій у кількості, необхідній для фінансування громадських проектів; – довгострокову заборону на зазначеній території капітального будівництва, за винятком окремих інфраструктурних об’єктів; – довгострокове резервування найбільш цінних ділянок з метою збереження їхнього природного та історико-культурного потенціалу (створення заповідників, охоронних історико-культурних зон і т. д.).

STRATEGIC PRINCIPLES The main results of the Competition should be reflected in the Concept for Kyiv Strategic Development 2025, which is now being devised. In particular, it is important: – to ensure the status of Kyiv hills as a unique area in terms of its landscape features, as well as cultural and recreational potential, which makes it extremely valuable for the whole city of Kyiv; – to guarantee sustainable and socially-oriented development of this territory; – to ensure the priority of public, recreation, tourist, sports, healthcare, cultural, educational, art and landscape functions on the territory; – to provide protection and study of historical and architectural landmarks situated on the territory, gradually involving them into the modern development of the city, with due regard for international laws on cultural heritage protection; – to introduce additional services and commercial facilities in order to finance public projects; – to impose a long-term ban on any capital development on the territory, with the exception of certain infrastructure elements; – to conserve some of the most valuable plots in order to preserve their natural, historical and cultural potential (creating natural and historic conservation areas); The above mentioned principles should underlie any further changes into the effective legal documents that regulate urban development on Kyiv hills (zoning, detail planning, legal documents that ensure historical and architectural heritage protection, etc), with the provision of clearly-defined rules and restrictions that would be applicable to any legal entity.

На основі цих принципів має здійснюватися подальша розробка і вдосконалення чинних законодавчих документів, якими регламентується містобудівельна діяльність на території пагорбів (зонінговий план, план детального планування, законодавчі акти з охорони та збереження історикоархітектурної спадщини та ін.) з чітким визначенням правил та обмежень для всіх правових суб’єктів.

In the view of further integration of the urban landscape design project for the central part of Kyiv into the public life of the city, there is a need for a series of state and municipal programs aimed at finding comprehensive solutions to the problems of urban environment, namely:

Projects that follow any of the above mentioned directions should be realized according to the principle of open, competition-based and motivation-oriented selection on the basis of pre-defined and highly objective criteria, and with the help of qualified jury (in the form of competitions, tenders, etc)

Реалізація проектів за кожним із цих напрямів має здійснюватися, виходячи з принципів відкритого, конкуренто- та мотиваційно-орієнтованого відбору, на основі встановлених попередньо, максимально об’єктивних критеріїв, із залученням професійного журі, в т. ч. через організацію конкурсів, тендерів, тощо.

Further development of the Territory is only possible via centralized planning, but with intense involvement of local initiatives (public, cultural, artistic and educational), on the basis of international and interregional cooperation and partnership and with the help of a wide circle of professionals (entrepreneurs, educationalists, cultural workers, architects, etc).

До початку Чемпіонату на території пагорбів слід встановити громадські вбиральні, інформаційні вказівники, облаштувати освітлення в парках і прилеглих до них вулицях, упорядкувати рекламні носії та наявні елементи дизайну міського середовища. Слід розробити цілісну систему візуальних комунікацій і навігації в міському середовищі. НА ПЕРСПЕКТИВУ: Першочерговими планувальними завданнями є налагодження зв’язку між містом і набережною Дніпра, а також створення можливості вільного пересування громадян між Верхнім містом та безпосередньо Дніпром. Інвестиції мають бути спрямовані на реалізацію вздовж пагорбів паркової інфраструктури: велосипедних доріжок та павільйонів, дерев’яних променад для пішоходів, окремих фрагментів ландшафтної архітектури в нижній частині пагорбів із налагодженням пішохідних зв’язків із верхнім плато. Слід розпочати втілення Містобудівельної концепції з регенерації території Київської фортеці (ПТАМ «Шевченко»). За підтримки місцевих ініціатив важливо вжити заходів із регенерації публічного простору та створення пішохідних зон на Пейзажній алеї, Андріївському узвозі та Контрактовій площі. У подальшому планувальні заходи слід спрямувати на створення в окремих, забезпечених інфраструктурою, зонах різноманітних об’єктів культурного, рекреаційного, спортивно-оздоровчого і туристичного призначення (виставкові зали, мистецькі та розважально-освітні центри, причали, аквапарки).

It in necessary to install public toilets, information stands, and lighting facilities in the parks and adjacent streets before the beginning of the Championship. Besides, it is necessary to improve the quality of outdoor advertising and other urban landscape design elements. There is a need for a comprehensive system of visual communication and navigation in the urban environment. FOR THE FUTURE: First-priority assignment for the design is to establish connection between the city and the Dnieper waterfront and to ensure uninterrupted pedestrian circulation between the Upper (Verkhniy) bridge and the Dnieper. Investment should be directed to the implementation of park infrastructure along the hills: bicycle paths, wooden promenade platforms, certain elements of landscape architecture in the lower part of the hills linked to the upper plateau. Quality infrastructure is sure to attract further investment to this territory. Urban development concept should start with the regeneration of the territory of Kyiv Fortress (“V. Shevchenko” design bureau). With the help of local initiatives, it is highly important to take measures for the regeneration of public spaces and creating pedestrian-only areas on Peyzazhna alley, Andriyivsky descent and Kontraktova square. In future, focus should be made on equipping certain areas that already have the necessary infrastructure with various cultural, recreational, sports, healthcare and tourist facilities (exhibition halls, art centers, entertainment and educational facilities, quays, aquaparks). Besides, it is necessary to provide for the further popularization of the Kyiv hills image as a brand of Kyiv which is attractive for investment on the international level. www.competition-kievedge.com

КОНКУРС МОЛОДИХ АРХІТЕКТОРІВ УКРАЇНИ «Canactions 2011».

THE COMPETITION OF YOUNG ARCHITECTS OF UKRAINE «CANactions 2011».

В рамках Міжнародного молодіжного фестивалю Canactions 2011 відбувся конкурс Молодих архітекторів України. За історію фестивалю він пройшов вже втретє. Ініційований в 2009 році Інститутом архітектури в Дессау (Німеччина), цей захід став для українських студентів професійним «вікном у Європу». За підсумками минулорічних конкурсів вісім молодих архітекторів наразі навчаються в цьому провідному європейському вищому навчальному закладі. Цього року преміальний фонд конкурсу збільшився за рахунок залучення нових партнерів. Крім DIA (який був і залишається постійним партнером) ними стали Європейська урбаністична проектувальна лабораторія Stadslab, представництво Фонду ім. Г. Бьолля в Україні й вітчизняний журнал «Идеи Вашего Дома». Завдяки підтримці цих організацій були премійовані 7 кращих конкурсних проектів. У Конкурсі могли взяти участь студенти та випускники архітектурних факультетів вищих навчальних закладів України за фахом «архітектор» (освітній рівень не нижче ніж «бакалавр»), яким ще не виповнилося 35 років. Було подано 95 проектів, які підготували студенти з 11 вищих навчальних закладів України. Тематика проектів не обмежувалася. На Конкурс можна було подавати курсові та дипломні проекти. В 1 турі конкурсні роботи оцінювало журі, до якого увійшли Євген Асс (Москва, Росія), Ігор Суховілов (Рига, Латвія), Олег Дроздов (Харків, Україна), Олександр Колесніков (Харків, Україна), Юрій Ринтовт (Харків, Україна). Конкурс проходив у два етапи. Результатом першого етапу стало визначення десяти кращих проектів. Ними стали: «BRIDGE. Центр іноземних мов». Автор: Олена Антощенко (бакалавр, КНУБА), «Центр психологічного розвитку сім`ї». Автор: Богдана Рутецька (бакалавр, КНУБА), «Проект реконструкції набережної Дніпра». Автор: Олена Макагон (спеціаліст, КНУБА), «Реконструкція промислових будівель київської гавані». Автор: Ірена Циба (спеціаліст, КНУБА), «Концепція розвитку бульвару Т. Шевченко в м. Києві». Автор: Євген Васильєв (магістр, ПДАБА), «Готель в м. Лейпциг». Автор: Максим Юровніков, (спеціаліст, DIA), «Соціально-психологічний комфорт житлової забудови». Автор: Юлія Ковтун (магістр, ЛНТПУ «Львівська Політехніка»), «Реконструкція житлового кварталу 1960-70 рр. у м. Львові». Автор: Роман Попадюк (магістр, ЛНТПУ «Львівська Політехніка»), «Житловий комплекс на 1500 осіб в м. Одеса». Автор: Кирило Вербич (спеціаліст, ОДАБА), «Приватний будинок Раскоряка». Автор: Володимир Зотов (спеціаліст, ЛНТПУ «Львівська Політехніка»). На другому етапі Конкурсу, що тривав з 28 по 30 квітня 2011 року, ці десять проектів були презентовані у великому залі Будинку архітектора в Києві. Серед авторів десяти найкращих проектів були обрані переможці. ПЕРШУ ПРЕМІЮ від DIA отримав Євген Васильєв (магістр, ПДАБА) за проект «Концепція розвитку бульвару Т. Шевченко в м. Києві». ДРУГУ ПРЕМІЮ - Богдана Рутецька (бакалавр, КНУБА), яка підготувала проект «Центр психологічного розвитку сім`ї». ПРЕМІЄЮ ВІД STADSLAB був нагороджений «Проект реконструкції набережної Дніпра» Олени Макагон (спеціаліст, КНУБА). ПРЕМІЇ ВІД ПРЕДСТАВНИЦТВА ФОНДУ ІМ. Г. БЬОЛЛЯ в Україні отримали Ірена Циба (спеціаліст, КНУБА) за проект «Реконструкція промислових будівель київської гавані», Роман Попадюк (магістр, ЛНТПУ «Львівська Політехніка») проект «Реконструкція житлового кварталу 1960-70 рр. у м. As a result of fruitful collaboration with Dessau Institute of Architecture, eight students from architectural schools in Ukraine got a chance to do a course in this prominent European university. There is no universal topic for the competition entries. Participants can submit their course projects and diploma works. DESSAU INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTURE, Germany Graduate SchooL Anhalt University of Applied Sciences Dept 3 As part of the Faculty of architecture (FB 3) at Anhalt university , the Dessau institute of architecture (dia) is conducting a 2 year Mastercourse in architecture at Graduate Level. The course is taught entirely in English and leads to an EU- accredited MA-degree.

Історія DIA почалась у 1999 році, коли інститут прийняв перших 10 студентів. Зараз у DIA навчається понад 150 студентів з більш ніж 30 країн світу, які приїжджають на обидва роки навчання. Це найпопулярніша магістерська програма з архітектури з викладанням англійською мовою у Німеччині. Інститут отримує найбільшу кількість щорічних стипендій Німецької служби академічних обмінів (DAAD). Багато випускників DIA працюють у відомих компаніях різних країн світу.

Starting with 10 students in 1999 DIA Graduate School has by now expanded to over 150 students from more than 30 countries that are enrolled in both years of study. it runs the most successful English taught Mastercourse in the filed of architecture in Germany. it has the highest number of annual scholarship-awards from the German academic exchange Program (DAAD) and many of its alumni by now work in internationally renowned offices around the world.

Одного із студентів DIA з Македонії запросили до Венеціанського Бієнале 2008 року, − взяти участь у підготовці національного стенду, а у 2010 році на тому ж Бієнале у Венеції виставляли свої роботи деякі викладачі DIA. Інститут DIA – це єдиний архітектурний навчальний заклад в Німеччині, який брав участь у Пекінському архітектурному Бієнале молодих талантів у 2006, 2008 та 2010 рр.

Some DIA-students have won prizes in coveted architecture competitions like Feidad or the German DAAD Prize. One student from Macedonia was invited to participate in his country’s effort at the Venice Biennale 2008, some of its teachers exhibited there in 2010. as the only School of architecture from Germany, DIA took part in the 2006 ,2008 and 2010 Beijing architecture Biennale for young talents. As basis for this success its director, Prof. Alfred Jacoby, sees the successful integration of such a large international student body in Dessau, adjacent to the famous Bauhaus, alongside with the multitude of academic options offered in its courses. Generally, DIA puts a strong emphasis on teaching theory and history of urbanism and architecture, combined with the intelligent architectonic and technical handling of digital Media.

Зі слів директора інституту DIA, професора Альфреда Якобі, основа успіху інституту полягає у вдалому залученні великої багатонаціональної групи студентів у Дессау, діяльність якого пов’язана з відомим Баухаусом, а також у розмаїтті академічних можливостей, які пропонуються у рамках навчальних курсів. Зазвичай інститут DIA надає особливого значення викладанню теорії та історії урбанізму й архітектури у поєднанні з розумним, з точки зору архітектоніки та технології, використанням цифрових засобів. До викладацького складу інституту входять переважно викладачі університету Анхальта. Проте DIA має давню традицію запрошувати іноземних професорів на 1-2 роки. Протягом останніх шести років у ролі почесних викладачів за програмою DAAD у DIA працювали Ніл Ліч (Університет Південної Каліфорнії, Лос-Анджелес), Крістос Пассас (AA Лондон), Ларс Леруп (Університет Райса, Техас) и Ері Граафланд (Технічний університет м. Its Staff is built predominantly around teachers from Anhalt university. however, dia has a long standing tradition to invite international teaching staff as Guest Professors for a stay of 1-2 years. Over the past six years DIA has had Neil Leach (USC, Los Angeles), Christos Passas (AA London),Lars Lerup (Rice University, tX) and Arie Graafland (TU Delft) as distinguished DAD Guest chairs. In addition, there is a long list of international complementary teaching staff that have joined it for crits, workshops, lectures and conferences. DIA is an affiliate member of the American collegiate association of architecture Schools (ACSA) and has many exchange partners around the globe. it conducts studios and summer courses that tackle European but also global issues. DIA encourages its students to look at urban, technical, as well as environmental problems with the aim of searching for sustainable proposals as solutions. To study at DIA is certainly an exciting and academically outstanding experience for any student who is looking for a sound education at Graduate Level.

ЄВРОПЕЙСЬКА ЛАБОРАТОРІЯ УРБАН-ДИЗАЙНУ STADSLAB Лабораторія Stadslab була заснована влітку 2006 як європейська лабораторія урбан-дизайну, у рамках якої професіональні експерти та вчені мають можливість обмінюватися знаннями та передовими розробками під час роботи над реальними проектами у приймаючих містах. Наш п’ятирічний послужний список містить стратегічні урбан-дослідження у різних містах та регіонах таких країн, як Польща, Угорщина, Україна, Грузія та Нідерланди. У цих дослідженнях приймали участь понад п’ятидесяти учасників з 15 країн з різним професійним досвідом у різних галузях знань. Зараз ми розробляємо програми розвитку для міст Європи та за її кордонами. Крім усього іншого, лабораторія Stadslab має на меті підвищувати рівень місцевих фахівців у методології дизайну та надавати їм можливість міжнародного обміну досвідом. Ресурси нашої лабораторії не дозволяють нам активно брати участь у реалізації запропонованих урбан-проектів. Через те, ми підкреслюємо важливість залучення місцевих учасників до наших програм. Саме вони залишаться на цьому місці, коли ми закінчимо нашу роботу, і вони зможуть використовувати усі отримані знання та методологію під час довгої стадії реалізації проекту. Проекти лабораторії Stadslab мають за мету підготувати концептуальний каркас для майбутнього розвитку приймаючих міст через розробку урбансценаріїв із залученням передових знань та досвіду. Цей концептуальний каркас має підвищити міжнародний імідж міста, його потенціал та прагнення і, як наслідок, покращити інвестиційний клімат міста. Робота над проектом у лабораторії Stadslab виконується по принципу „мозкового центру”. Ми не прагнемо надати готові рішення. Радше ми намагаємось допомогти сформувати або реінтерпретувати необхідні стратегії подальшого розвитку. Європейська лабораторія урбан-дизайну Stadslab є по суті мережею, яка співпрацює з багатьма різноманітними партнерами у Європі та за її кордонами. Деякі з цих партнерів беруть участь лише у конкретних проектах, у той час як інші є більш постійними партнерами. STADSLAB Stadslab was established in the summer of 2006 to create a European urban design laboratory where professionals and academia would meet to exchange knowledge and know-how, while addressing real time cases proposed by our hosting cities. After five years our track record consists of strategic design studies for cities and regions in Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Georgia and the Netherlands. More than fifty participants took part in these studies, representing over 15 nationalities and varying degrees of professional experience in different fields. Programs for cities both within and outside of Europe are currently being developed. One of Stadslab aims is to train local professionals in design methodology and international exchange. Stadslab is not equipped to stay involved in the implementation phase of urban design projects. Therefore, we stress the importance of a number of local participants in all our programs. They will remain on site when we leave, and they could implement the knowledge and methodology during the often long phase of project implementation. Stadslab projects aim to provide a conceptual framework for future development of its hosting cities, by developing urban design scenarios and implement state-ofthe-art knowledge and expertise. It will further help to enhance the international profile of the city and its potential and ambitions and, finally, may enhance the city’s investment potential. Operating as a think-tank, Stadslab projects are not aimed to provide ready-made solutions, but rather help to frame or rephrase the necessary steps for future development. Stadslab European Urban Design Laboratory is essentially a network organisation, which collaborates with a multitude of different partners in Europe and abroad. Some of these partners are solely related to specific projects while others are more permanent partners and involved on a structural basis. Several high profile experts from our disciplines have been invited to take part in our Advisory Board. The board acts as a council to reflect on the long term strategies of Stadslab and to support us in our daily activities. У цьому році Фестиваль зберіг і продовжив традицію, що народилася більш року тому й перетворила СANactions з великої одиничної (кілька днів у році) події в повнокровний культурний рух, що існує постійно і збирає навколо архітектурної тематики людей із самих різних соціальних галузей. Тематика круглих столів, або так званих “Четвергів”, − круглі столи відбувалися щочетверга в київському Будинку Архітектора з 22 січня по 22 квітня 2011 року, − була присвячена як найгострішим та болючим архітектурним і соціальним проблемам взагалі, так і конкретним питанням сучасного архітектурного бачення окремих територіальних фрагментів. Йшлося про проектування певних ділянок Києва, заявлених у відкритому міжнародному архітектурному конкурсі «Благоустрій центральної частини м. Києва до Євро-2012 та на перспективу». До участі в круглих столах були запрошені фахівці-архітектори та спеціалісти суміжних професій, а також широкий загал громадськості. У 14 проведених “Четвергах” взяли участь громадські організації «Збережи старий Київ», «Голос громади Києва», представництво фонду ім. Г. Бьолля в Україні, «Garage Gang», Києво-Могилянська Академія, та інші. Круглі столи стали унікальним майданчиком для вільного та ефективного професійного спілкування. Його особливість полягає у незмінній толерантності диспуту, де кожна експертна думка висловлюється абсолютно вільно, а вислухується з інтересом і уважністю, без частки притиску або тиснення. Останнє стосується не тільки й не стільки доповідачів і слухачів, скільки організаторів заходу. Така відмінна риса “Четвергів” дозволяє побачити в них відповідність програмним тезам фестивалю СANactions: Навчаємося ВЧИТИСЯ. ДІЄМО. КОНСОЛІДУЄМО.

This year the Festival continues the tradition that sprang up more than a year ago and transformed СANactions, which was a big but one-time event (several days in a year), into a full-fledged on-going cultural movement that pulls in people of various social backgrounds to the realm of architecture. The topics of the round table discussions – the so called “Thursday discussions” as they were held in the House of Architects in Kyiv every Thursday from 22 January to 22 April 2011 − were devoted to some of the most burning and sensitive social issues in general and more concrete problems of modern architectural vision of certain territories in particular. The discussions were dealing with design proposals for certain territories in Kyiv suggested for the open international architectural competition “Urban Landscaping in Kyiv for Euro-2012”. Architects, experts in related fields, as well as grassroots were encouraged to contribute to the discussions. All in all there were 14 “Thursday discussions” which saw representatives of various public organizations and establishments. To name just a few of them: “Preserve the Old Kyiv” NGO, “The Voice of Kyiv Community” NGO, Heinrich Böll Foundation in Ukraine, «Garage Gang», Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. These round table discussions became a unique platform for open and effective professional communication. The disputes were remarkable due to their unfailing tolerance, when every expert opinion could be expressed and listened to with interest and attention, free from any kind of pressure. The latter concerns not only the speakers and the audience, but rather the organizers of the event. This distinctive feature of the “Thursday discussions” is in keeping with the general policy of СANactions: LEARNING TO LEARN, ACTING, CONSOLIDATING.

CANactions протекает одновременно в нескольких плоскостях. Кроме «стратегии» проектирования, есть еще «тактика» круглых столов. Четверги в Архитектурном клубе стали площадкой, где можно услышать мнения специалистов – археологов, экологов, культурологов; получить информацию о «властных» планах реконструкции/реставрации особо ценных участков исторической зоны Киева и узнать об опыте борьбы защитников Киева; где можно (…) услышать из уст представителей власти их точку зрения, сравнить со сказанным ранее, посмотреть им в глаза и сделать самостоятельные выводы. «На почве» CANactions выходят на поверхность многие тлевшие подспудно проблемы, даже, казалось бы, неожиданные в данном контексте – например, проблема «отцов и детей». Однако, объединяющий эффект этих открытых дискуссий несравнимо больший. Слушать, думать, не бояться, действовать осознанно и ответственно – именно к этому подспудно, не декларативно, подвигает фестиваль CANactions своих участников, в первую очередь – молодых... …CANactions festival takes place in several fields at the same time: apart from “design stage” there is also “tactics” of round table discussions. Thursday debates in Architectural club have already become a place where one can learn experts’ opinions – archaeologists, environmentalists, experts in culture studies – and get information about governmental plans as to the reconstruction/restoration of the most valuable places in Kyiv historic territories. Here one can also learn about campaigns organized by Kyiv heritage protection activists, listen to the government representatives, compare their point of view with what has been told before, look them in the eye and make one’s own conclusions. CANactions evokes many of the latently “smoldering” problems which seem rather unexpected in this context, such as the problem of “fathers and sons”. However, the unifying effect of these open discussions undoubtedly overrides all possible misunderstanding. The final goal of CANactions is to encourage its participants – especially young ones - to listen, to think, not to be afraid of anything and to act with full awareness and responsibility, which is not expressed in the form of declarations, but is rather an underlying principle of the whole festival. Є гостра нестача простору для соціального діалогу, де люди, власне, й стають громадою, обмінюючись думками та знаходячи рішення нагальних проблем. (…) організатори CANactions створили в стінах Будинку архітектора майданчик для такого діалогу, де зібралися представники різноманітних громадських організацій і виразили думки з приводу подальшого розвитку Києва. Гості від «широкого загалу» також мали нагоду поділитися досвідом, поставити питання активістам громадського руху, та й просто дізнатися, що поруч існують цікаві ініціативи… (…) Принаймні можна констатувати наявність ще однієї мети розвитку, орієнтира для молоді. Тобто вони знають, де можна реалізувати себе, і наскільки треба добре проробляти ідеї, щоби вони гідно виглядали серед інших на конкурсі. Тішить прогресивна спрямованість фестивалю та його «соціальність». Тобто це вже не просто вузькоспеціальна подія, яка є цікавою лише фахівцям, це дійсно шанс для кожної зацікавленої містобудівним і архітектурним життям людини дізнатися щось цікаве, поспілкуватися з «посвяченими», послухати думки фахівців, насправді долучитися до справжнього соціального процесу, який може дати позитивний результат у подальшому... its improvement. It is an essential contribution into the evolving civil society. Why? Because civil community can only exist in the situation when there is interaction between people. Meanwhile, modern civilization has a tendency to separate people… There is an urgent need for spaces where people can join social dialogue, share ideas and find solutions to their common problems, creating in this way a real community… Organizers of CANactions turned the House of Architects into a platform for such dialogue, inviting representatives from a variety of public organizations to express their opinions as to the further development of Kyiv. General public also had an opportunity to share their experience, put questions to the leaders of public movements and simply learn about interesting initiatives taking place in their city… … One can speak at least of another guideline for young people, which means that they know where they can realize their potential and to which extent they should they develop their ideas so that they might look appropriate for the competition. This is not only about prizes (however, it is a nice asset), but rather about a chance to promote yourself in the realm of architecture… … the festival was a huge success. The House of Architects was full of people during the whole three days. There was joy and excitement in the air. Various topics were raised at the round table discussions, in particular such urgent problems for Kyiv as transport infrastructure, the state of public spaces and the role of community in the city life. It is good to see the progressive orientation of the festival and its “social” awareness. Thus, it is no longer a highly-specialized event for professionals alone. Now it is a real chance for every person who is interested in urban planning and architecture to learn something new, to communicate with “the initiated”, to listen to expert opinions as for the surrounding reality and become involved into a real social movement which is likely to yield a positive result in the long run… Maksim Kholyavin, journalist vox.com.ua The festival is a unique phenomena for Ukraine. резуЛьтАтИ ФестИвАЛЮ ResUlTs Of The fesTivAl Фестиваль CANactions проходив цього року в четвертий раз. Чотири роки це невеликий строк для історії, але достатній, щоб простежити наявну динаміку, закріпити позитивні тенденції, і побачити, наскільки діяльність фестивалю відповідає його принципам і цілям. Або, іншими словами, наскільки цей захід виявився цікавим і потрібним для аудиторії, архітектурного співтовариства, іноземних гостей, широкої громадськості й міста. Скажімо одразу ж, − CANactions 2011 показав, що фестиваль розвивається й росте, засвідчуючи позитивні зсуви, пов’язані з кожним з наведених адресатів.

CANactions 2011 was already the fourth festival of this kind. Four years is not a long period in history, but it is enough to trace a certain dynamics, establish positive tendencies and see to which extent the events happening at the festival correspond to its principles and goals. In other words, to which extent this event was interesting and useful for the audience, for the architectural community, for foreign guests, for the public at large and for the city in general. One can say with confidence that CANactions 2011 proved that the festival is developing and growing, showing positive changes that concern each of the above mentioned addressees.

ЗРІСТ СЛУХАЦЬКОЇ АУДИТОРІЇ. Фестиваль залучає студентів архітектурних ВУЗів з усієї України й ближнього зарубіжжя. Рік у рік в актовому залі Київського Будинку Архітектора з’являється все більше майбутніх і досвідчених архітекторів. Якщо в рік появи фестивалю число слухачів перевищувало 400 чоловік, то цього року воно перевищило півтори тисячі. Глядачі заповняли не тільки зал і балкон, але й навіть, іноді, проходи між рядами. Пояснити такий аншлаг можна тим, що запропоновані форми фестивального життя дають своїм слухачам можливість прилучитися до найвищого рівня існуючої професійної кваліфікації, і, тим самим, формують професійні амбіції майбутніх українських архітекторів, задаючи дуже високу планку для їхніх майбутніх професійних рішень. УВАГА ЗІРОК ЄВРОПЕЙСЬКОЇ АРХІТЕКТУРИ. Разом з аудиторією росте кількість іменитих іноземних гостей, яких приваблює гарна організація, креативна вільна атмосфера спілкування й непідроблений інтерес слухацької аудиторії. Цього року до фестивалю приїхали 24 іноземних фахівця, серед яких назвемо Крістоса Пассаса (керуючого партнера ZAHA HADID ARCHITECTS/Великобританія, професора DIA/ Німеччина), Андреаса Клока Педерсена (BIG/Данія), Лоренца Декслера (Topotek1/Німеччина), Фабіана Хьорманна (EM2N/Швейцарія). РОЗШИРЕННЯ ПАРТНЕРСТВА. Постійним партнером CANactions є один з ведучих ВУЗов Німеччини − Інститут Архітектури в Дессау. Плодом цього співробітництва на сьогоднішній день з’явилася можливість для 8-ми кращих студентів архітектурних ВУЗов України пройти навчання в цьому європейському навчальному закладі. Конкурс молодих архітекторів, що ініціював 3 роки тому Інститут Архітектури в Дессау, продовжив цього року свою діяльність і теж перетерпів свого роду розширення. Воно торкнулося преміального фонду й відбулося за рахунок залучення до конкурсу як нових партнерів відомих закордонних організацій − Європейської урбаністичної проектувальної лабораторії Stadslab і Фонду імені Гайнріха Бьолля, так і вітчизняного партнера − журналу “Идеи вашего дома”. ЗАЛУЧЕННЯ ВІТЧИЗНЯНИХ І ЗАКОРДОННИХ МОЛОДИХ АРХІТЕКТОРІВ ЯК УЧАСНИКІВ ФЕСТИВАЛЮ. Цього року фестиваль CANactions крім України і Європи став відомий у США, Колумбії, Росії, Австралії і Японії. Приводом до такого розширення популярності став відкритий міжнародний конкурс «Благоустрій центральної частини м. Києва до Євро-2012 та на перспективу», що вперше проводився в Україні. Заключний етап конкурсу був однією з форм фестивалю. Конкурс став знаковою подією в професійному, соціальному, медійному, мультикультурному й історичному відношеннях. Він розширив географічні обрії архітектурного співробітництва й відкрив нові комунікативні перспективи. ПРЕЦЕДЕНТ ПЛІДНОГО СПІВРОБІТНИЦТВА З ОРГАНАМИ ВЛАДИ. Усі наведені моменти відповідають 1-му та 2-му пунктам мети фестивалю: (1) зробити українськими тенденції, принципи й технології сучасної світової архітектури і урбаністики та (2) зробити доступним для молодих українських архітекторів досвід західних зірок. Але щоб досягти 3-го − навчитися дивитися крізь призму цього нового знання на архітектурні задачі Києва й країни в цілому − і не в теоретичному, а практичному плані, − необхідно налагодити конструктивний діалог із владою й домогтися її щирої зацікавленості. І саме з цього приводу можна констатувати певні результати. В 2010 році до фестивалю із привітальним словом підтримки звертався віцепрем’єрміністр України В.П. Семиноженко; цього року Головне управління містобудування та архітектури міста Києва як структурний підрозділ Київській міській державній адміністрації став замовником конкурсу «Благоустрій…». Це тим більш важливо, що саме цей прецедент вдалого співробітництва архітекторів і представників влади може наблизити появу сучасного архітектурного майбутнього Києва. ФЕСТИВАЛЬ CANACTIONS НЕ ТІЛЬКИ ЩОРІЧНА ПОДІЯ, АЛЕ Й ПОСТІЙНИЙ МОЛОДІЖНИЙ АРХІТЕКТУРНИЙ РУХ. Три бурхливих квітневих дні фестивалю CANactions 2011 − лише помітна частина, вершина айсберга того насиченого й постійного архітектурного життя, що передує фестивалю та проходить під його знаком. Молоді архітектори мають можливість протягом декількох зимових і весняних місяців виступати доповідачами й учасниками Круглих столів (цього року їх було 14). У такий спосіб Фестиваль CANactions − це щось більше, ніж одинична подія року. Це − міжнародний молодіжний архітектурний рух, що постійно народжує нові ініціативи, піднімає нові теми, залучає нових людей, створює нові форми взаємодії. А серцем цього руху є Україна.

A GREATER AUDIENCE. The Festival pulls in students from all architectural schools in Ukraine and the CIS countries. With every year coming, the main hall of the House of Architects in Kyiv welcomes more and more architects, both experienced and young. When the festival was held for the first time, the number of visitors was a little bit more than 400 people, whereas this year it amounted to more than one thousand and a half. People occupied the hall, the balcony, and even the aisles sometimes. This great interest can be explained by the fact that the festival has suggested new forms of activity where visitors can become aware of the highest possible professional expertise, which shapes professional ambitions of young Ukrainian architects and raises a very high standard for their future professional solutions. ATTENTION ON THE PART OF EUROPEAN ARCHITECTURE. As the festival has been pulling in bigger audience, the number of foreign guests is growing as well. They find the festival very attractive because of the effective organization, creative free atmosphere of communication, genuine interest of the audience. This year 24 foreign professionals came to CANactions. We’ll name just a few of them: Chistos Passas (associate director ZAHA HADID ARCHITECTS/the UK, professor DIA/Germany), Andreas Klok Pedersen (BIG/Denmark), Lorenz Dexler (Topotek1/Germany), Fabian Hoermann (EM2N/Switzerland). EXPANDING PARTNERSHIP. One of the constant partners of CANactions is a prominent German university - Dessau Institute of Architecture. As a result of this fruitful collaboration, eight students from architectural schools in Ukraine got a chance to do a course in this European university. Three years ago DIA initiated the competition of young architects, and this year we continued this tradition and even expanded it in some way. This year there were more prizes due to the involvement of new partners – renowned European institutions such as Stadslab European Urban Design Laboratory, Heinrich Böll Foundation’s office in Ukraine, and one Ukrainian partner – interior design magazine “Ideas for your Home”. PARTICIPATION OF UKRAINIAN AND FOREIGN YOUNG ARCHITECTS. This year the news about CANactions spread far beyond Ukraine and Europe reaching the USA, Colombia, Mexico, Australia and Japan. This happened due to the open international competition for the best Urban Landscape Design of the Central Part of Kyiv for Euro-2012 and for more distant future, which was the first competition of this kind in Ukraine. The final stage of the competition was held within the framework of the festival. The Competition proved to be a remarkable event in a variety aspects: professional, media, multicultural and historical. It expanded geographic borders of professional collaboration and opened up new prospects for communication. ESTABLISHING A PRECEDENT OF FRUITFUL COOPERATION WITH LOCAL AUTHORITIES. All the above mentioned aspects correspond to the first two aims of the festivals: (1) to master new trends, principles and technologies of modern world architecture and urbanism and introduce them in Ukraine and (2) to expose Ukrainian young architects to the experience of internationally recognized masters. However, in order to reach the third goal - to learn to perceive architectural tasks in Kyiv and in the whole country in the light of this newly acquired knowledge – it is crucial to establish a constructive dialogue with the authorities and attract its sincere interest. A certain progress has been made in this respect so far. In 2010 V.P. Seminozhenko, vice prime-minister of Ukraine, addressed the audience of the festival with a supporting speech. This year, Kyiv Central Agency for Urban Planning, Architecture and Urban Design at Kyiv City State Administration initiated a competition “Urban Landscape Design…”. It is important because this very precedent of successful collaboration between architects and authorities can facilitate the emergence of contemporary architectural future in Kyiv. CANACTIONS IS NOT JUST AN EVENT THAT HAPPENS ONCE A YEAR, BUT A CONSTANT YOUTH ARCHITECTURAL MOVEMENT. Three impetuous days of CANactions 2011 is only a visible part, a top of the iceberg of the on-going architectural life which is full of events preceding the festival. Apart from constant professional communication on Internet-forums, young architects have a possibility to participate and even make their own reports at round table discussions that take place in winter and spring. (this year there have been 14 discussons). Thus, CANactions is something more than a single event of the year. It is an international architectural movement which constantly generates new initiatives, raises new topics, involves new people, and creates new forms of interaction, Ukraine being the heart of this movement.
