Whatever Happened to the Men of Tomorrow? Continues to explore Slinkachu's trademark themes of loneliness and disillusionment engendered by the urban environment. The exhibition takes its title from Alan Moore's 'Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?' which reveals the anti-climatic end to the Superman legend with the hero living as an ordinary man with a normal 9-5 job. Loosely based on cartoonist and illustrator Chris Ware's anti-hero 'The Super-Man', Slinkachu's miniature characters find themselves overweight, pale and balding. Far from being superheroes, these figures represent failed hopes and dreams; they are old and forgotten, sidetracked by the mundanities of life, seduced by ultimately shallow pursuits or let down by their own dysfunctional personalities. The fantasies of youth, those of invincibility and destiny, have long since faded. Left to slip through the cracks in the pavement, they reveal a once heroic relationship to a city that no longer has any interest in them.
Slinkachu has received international attention for his Little People Project in which his miniature figures are left to fend for themselves in the bustling city. A world of miniature scale is uncovered as figures venture across the large metropolis, dwarfed by their surroundings and ignored by passers-by. Slinkachu recently participated in the show entitled Tunnel 228, produced by Punchdrunk and Old Vic Artistic Director Kevin Spacey. In 2008 he release his first publication 'Little People in the City; The street art of Slinkachu', published by Boxtree (Pan MacMilan), with a foreword by artist Will Self.
