THE MANAGER

Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to Foxcotte Park to all our supporters for this afternoon’s game against our visitor’s Hamworthy Rec.

I’d like to welcome the Hamworthy management team, their staff, players and all officials and supporters who have made the journey to Andover this afternoon.

The Rec are on an incredible run at the moment, having gone 11 league games unbeaten with their last league defeat coming back in late October against us.

Hamworthy arrive here this afternoon fresh on the back of an impressive 4-1 win at New Milton Town last Saturday and they have also beaten Andover Town 5-0 and drawn 0-0 at Newport IOW. They will no doubt be looking to continue their recent form this afternoon and enhance their promotion aspirations.

We come into the game having won last week at home to Downton and battled to a 0- 0 draw away on the Island against East Cowes Vics.

The Downton game was a very tough game, as always against the Robins. Chances were very few and far between for both sides, until Cooky latched onto a fine through ball by debutant Layton Tulk and Cooky finished well!

We managed to get the important second goal just after half-time and it was needed, as Downton showed how good a side, they are by coming back into the game, but we were able to claim the three points in the end.

We were able to bring in Layton Tulk last week from Bemerton Heath Harlequins, with Josh Moore going the other way. A big welcome to Layton, who has already showed his potential in the two games his has already played for us and I’d also like to thank Josh for all his efforts this season and wish him well at Bemmie.

We remain in a strong position moving into the business end of the season, with a number of key matches coming up over the next few weeks, the whole squad will be needed if we are to maintain our levels of performance.

Enjoy the game.

Buy a 50/50 ticket at tonight’s game to stand a chance of winning a cash prize!

THE NON-LEAGUE PAPER WITH

JON COUCH – NLP REPORTER

We are now, officially, in the ‘Big Game’ period of the 2022-23 season.

Glance through any fixture list of upcoming matches and you will see them everywhere.

It’s that stage of a campaign where teams still have it all to gain – and all to lose. Be it at the top of the bottom, every point really matters from here on out.

How teams deal with tricky Tuesday night away matches, fixture pileups (don't tell Klopp), injuries and suspensions will go a long way to decided the outcome of their season.

It will be the difference between titles and play -offs, missing out on top five – or seven in the National League – finishes or relegation and survival.

In Non-League’s top cup competitions, the Wembley arch is just sneaking into view too as we reach the quarter-final stages of the FA Trophy and FA Vase.

The Trophy feels as wide open as it ever as. Farsley Celtic beat Hungerford Town last weekend to make the last eight and are the only side from outside of Non-League’s top flight. Of course, in recent seasons we’ve seen Brackley Town and Hornchurch lift the Trophy –the Urchins beating Step 2 Hereford in the final – while Concord Rangers have also made it to the final. They even needed to get past Step 4 Halesowen Town in the semis.

But seven of the final eight are from Non-League’s top table. The highest ranked currently are Barnet, they’re off to Maidstone United, while Farsley are away at Gateshead. York City fans are no strangers to FA Trophy glory, they welcome Altrincham while FC Halifax Town are also former winners and travel to Aldershot Town – the Shots still haven’t played at Wembley.

You’d be hard pressed to find a more interesting and exciting competition than the FA Vase. The finals tend to be among the most absorbing games of the season, a unique factor being it’s so often two teams pitted against each other who are from different regions of the country and know very little about each other. Holders Newport Pagnell Town are certainly putting up a strong defence of their title they won last season by beating Littlehampton Town. They got past Jersey Bulls in round five to set-up another home date, this time with Atherstone Town. There is an allNorthwest Counties League tie between Congleton Town and Bury AFC. Funnily enough, the pair played in the league just a day after being drawn together in the quarters on Monday and shared a 11 draw. West Didsbury & Chorlton are also NWCFL representatives, and they host Ascot United next. Ascot play in the shadow of the grandstand at the famous racecourse – look out for it next time the racing is on the tv. Completing the sixth round are Peacehaven & Telscombe, who will face Corsham Town.

THE WESSEX LEAGUE PREVIEW

In Division One Hamworthy Recreation, who give every indication in being in the play-off spots at least at the end of the season, pulled off a creditable 4-1 win at New Milton thanks to two goals from Chris Long and one apiece from Frank Rosenwald and James King with the hosts getting the opener from Charlie Turner.

Newport won 3-1 at Verwood with two goals from Connor Kelly and one from Joe Craig – Louis McWilliams for the Potters – but Andover New Street were held to a goalless draw by the much improved East Cowes Vics on the Island.

No problems for Petersfield with goals from Archie Greenough, Matt Dougan, Alex Barsa and Marvin Orepo giving them a 4-0 victory at Andover Town.

lead, Ryan Long equalised before Maciej Marcinowski won it with a thirty five yard “worldie” in the dying seconds of stoppage time.

Fleetlands did Whitchurch little in the way of favour, completing the double over them with a 3-1 victory – two for Kai Sterne and one for Cam Stone against one from Sam Freeman - while Romsey scored twice without reply against Ash United with both goals coming from Charlie Hawes.

At the bottom wins for both Amesbury and Fleet Spurs. Amesbury won 2-1 at Ringwood thanks to two Tyler Budgell

Downton were three one ahead at the break at Fawley only for the home side to recover to three each and share the points. Dylan knight led the comeback with two aided by Adam Davis with Sam Howe, Kris Krystofowicz and Ollie Davies on the mark for the Robins.

Follands won by the odd goal in three at Totton & Eling on Friday evening, but they left it late. Silvano Obeng on his Millers debut, gave the home side the

goals with the home consolation credited to Harry Smith from the penalty spot around midway through the first half, while Fleet Spurs notched up just their second win of the season in beating Millbrook 3-2 at Test Park. The happy scorers were Jack Cleevely, Alex Afful and Kenny Kasibante with Danny Cox and Leon Longhurst getting the home goals.
