The club has been on an upward spiral for a number of years now. We’ve had a lot of successful times and we’ve been at the right end of the table.

All the lads know what I require and demand and the new players on board have bought into what I want straight away. To be honest it feels like the new players we’ve added have been here for years. The team spirit is amazing which is really pleasing it can take you so far. Combine that with the talent we have in this squad

Good afternoon and a warm welcome to Foxcotte Park to all our supporters for today’s match against our visitor’s New Milton Town, and to their Officials, Management, Players and Supporters. I’m really happy with how the season has started. Pre season was really good, and we have built a very strong side when we must make changes, we are no weaker and I completely trust the whole squad. For example, we made some changes for Saturday in the FA Vase and still hit the levels required The last pre season friendly against Tadley Calleva it all came together really, and we haven’t looked back. We have had two brilliant wins against Fleetlands and Warminster Town in the FA Cup. The opening game against Fleetlands, we started a little slow but then got into gear thanks to Daryll’s and Cam’s early finishes and we performed brilliantly on the night to add another two before half time through Callum and Dockers. My pride was even greater on Saturday after the win at Sherborne. I can honestly say that this current group of players is the best I have worked with during my time in football.

I’m hoping we can emulate what we did last season but just better it that little more. Our ultimate goal is to win the league and secure promotion and to be completely honest that what I demand and expect from this group of players. Everything is there for them. An inconsistent start to the season for the Linnets will be on manager Paul Turner’s mind. However, an impressive 3-2 win over Wessex Premier Moneyfields in the League Cup on Tuesday night, proves the Linnets are a strong side in the division.

Welcome to The Linnets arrive at Foxcotte Park after their opening day victory over Millbrook, which was followed up with a 4 2 defeat at Romsey Town. Luke Stone was on target for the Linnets in their trip to Verwood Town, which proved to be the only goal of the game at Potterne Park. New Milton must have been looking to achieve back to back league wins with the visit of Downton, but a brace from substitute TJ Moseley and further goals from Oliver Davies and from Downton top scorer Krzysztof Krystofowicz ensured a 4 1 win for the Robins.

A first half brace from George Deem and a further goal from Elliott Pearce Eavis gave the Linnets a 3 1 advantage at halftime.Brandon Hamerston added a fourth in the second half as New Milton triumphed 4 2 over the Millers in front of a crowd of 101 people. On Tuesday night, the Linnets out fought their higher league opponents, with the tie featuring three red cards, two penalties and a sin binning.

The Street advanced to the next round of the FA Vase thanks to a 3 2 penalty shoot out win, following a dramatic 2 2 draw over 90 minutes. The Street were fairly comfortable against their higher league opponents for most of the first half but a long range free kick on 39 minutes gave Sherborne the lead against the run of play. A club’s shirt should be instantly identifiable as belonging to that club. So why not allow it to be a constant, an official strip that only alters to allow for modernisation and technical improvement? This is a strip that can stand up as the club’s official uniform, always present, always visible and never changing. If you want to make it something that can be sold annually, then simply have the season printed on the shoulders.

There are a number of assets that form the club identity: the badge (logo), the playing strip and the stadium are the most prominent. Today, all corporates have brand identity teams that look after the logo and all its attributes. A club should do likewise, indeed many certainly do, but the playing strip seems to change year in, year out. Inter Milan is a good case of how black and blue stripes can be distorted to produce confusing brand identity. Stripes are stripes, not zig zags.

There seems to be no limits to the amount of needless and expensive graphic design that goes into the new season’s home, away or third strip. We all know why this happens. It’s not for the aesthetic value of the shirt in question, because most are pretty awful. It’s aimed at making as much money as possible. Why not? You might ask. Actually, from a commercial point of view, shirt sales are an important element in any club’s commercial offering. The fans lap it up, but

somewhere down the line, the club’s intellectual property is being tampered with.

SOLUTIONTHERE’SSACROSANCT,SHOULDCOLOURSBEBUTANELEGANT

Every season, clubs roll-out new shirts that bastardise their heritage, infuriate certain fans and invite criticism and laughter at their expense. While fans complain about the designs, and some are really quite hideous, it doesn’t stop them queuing to buy them, either to wear them on matchdays or stick them in a drawer with all their previous shirts.

With each year that passes, the artwork becomes more bizarre and more over engineered. No longer can you honestly say your team plays in red or blue or white it’s in there somewhere, but you might find it among swirling, cod paisley designs, TV interference from the 1970s or in the form of a shirt that looks as though it has been in the washing machine with a strong colour that makes your own shirt, white with a hint of pink, yellow or lilac. Or it may be the shirt has been designed by a gang of small children let loose on a tin of Crayola.

When was the last time you watched a game where two teams played in their traditional colours? It’s quite rare that a club wears its first choice for an away game, but in today’s game, it’s hard to keep up with away kit colouring. By all means commercialise you’re offering but keep it simple and don’t exploit the audience.

PEOPLETHEOFMEGA

Alternatively, if a club is hell bent on producing new merchandise that lures more cash out of the pockets of fans, then a strip for the season can be introduced that adheres to the guidelines of the branding department. If blue is the colour, then why introduce reds, greens and yellows that bear no relation to the club’s heritage? There’s plenty you can do with a sympathetic palette, is it really necessary to wander into the world of manufactured colours with names like rose bloom pink, light mint, lapis blue and stealth? Of course, this ill defined set of products may be a way to deter piracy, but where’s there’s a will, there’s a way.

Brett Pitman crowned his competitive AFC Portchester debut with the only goal in the Wessex League win over Cowes Sports.

‘That’s why we signed Brett Pitman, to do what he does’ – former Portsmouth favourite scores winner on Wessex League debut for AFC Portchester

The former Portsmouth fans favourite had been in prolific pre season form since his sensational arrival in the ninth tier of English football. And after nine goals in friendly action, Pitman headed in a 77th minute winner to get the pre season Wessex Premier title favourites off to a triumphant start. Pitman showed great movement to make himself a yard of room to nod in a left wing cross. ‘It was a difficult first game,’ said assistant boss Gavin Spurway. ‘Maybe there were a bit of nerves. The first game is always a bit nervy, whatever anyone says. Cowes defended well, but I always felt we were going to score, we were creating chances. It was the sort of game last season that we might not have ended up winning. That’s why we signed Brett Pitman, to do what he does.’ Pitman, 34, has hit the ground running at Portchester after being released by Bristol Rovers at the end of last season. Last Tuesday night’s header was his first competitive goal since netting for Eastleigh in a 5 3 National League loss at Solihull in March during a loan spell. ‘He’s come in, he listens, he’s got his head down, he wants to be involved in everything, he speaks to the players, gives them advice,’ Spurway added. ‘I’ve been nothing but impressed with him so far. He’s given 110 per cent and he’s scored goals that’s the main reason we signed him. If you give him chances, he will score. He had two last night and scored once long may it Portchestercontinue.’ started with another new signing, ex Bognor and Gosport player Ashton Leigh, in a three man backline alongside Sam Pearce and Curt Da Costa. Pitman partnered Felipe Barcelos up front.

ALSO... Second minute red card goalkeeperfor McGeorge blows Moneyfields’ plans ‘out of the window’ in opening day Wessex League defeat at HorndeanRudiBlankson struck a debut winner for Horndean Moneyfields’as pre match plans were ‘completely blown away’ inside two minutes of the Wessex League curtain raiser.

Sterne then went through one on one with the home keeper in the dying seconds, only to fail to complete a stunning recovery act.

On being rewarded with promotion to Wessex 1, they have started 2022/23 by conceding eight times in two games.

Fleetlands trailed 4 0 at Ash before netting three times in the final 15 minutes through Kai Sterne, Jamie Wrapson and Cameron Stone.

‘It’s already clear that if you make a mistake it’s punished, and we have to take our chances,’ said boss Dan Greenwood. ‘If you made those mistakes in the Hampshire League you could get away from them. It’s been a learning curve, a baptism of fire. There’s lots of work on but lots of positives. It’s a relatively new group and we’re still gelling.’

‘You could see why Andover finished second last season, but we created just as much as them. Of the eight goals we’ve conceded, we’ve gifted teams five of them. The biggest positive is we’re creating chances. With our togetherness, our workrate and desire, we would have been good value for a point at Ash, if not all three. And I don’t think they could have argued with that.’

The Coptermen only conceded seven goals in their final nine fixtures en route to finishing third in last season’s Hampshire Premier League.

Fleetlands have already been exposed to the harsh realities of life at a higher level of the non league pyramid.

A 4 0 loss at last season’s runners up Andover New Street was followed by a 4 3 defeat at Ash last weekend.

Fleetlands host their first Wessex home game since 2006/07 this Saturday against Totton & Eling. The Eels finished last season bottom of the table, winning just two of their 36 fixtures. But they lifted the curtain on 2022/23 with a 3 1 win at Romsey, former Baffins Milton Rovers youngster Owen Pelham in their starting XI. Fleetlands are without suspended pair Sterne and Callum Dart. Sterne is serving a suspension imposed for an offence last season, while Dart was sent off following an altercation with a member of the Ash management team.

Treatments are not always fun, as on Tuesday last, I needed to strip back a dead leg on one of our members, with the need to work around the bruising, but at the same time applying pressure, the player receiving the treatment, H, used some colorful phrases while we were working I really love my job lol. We look forward to a successful season working with all our staff and teams. On that note can I wish JC, Jamie Dockree and Thomo the very best for the season and let’s hope we go one better than last season. So, the season is already up and running with the lads getting off to a good start against Fleetlands last week and then grinding out a 2 0 away win against Warminster in the FA Cup. It’s the perfect start and hopefully it can continue this afternoon. We have had a busy start to this season and with players returning to full training you are bound to pick up a few knocks here and there in pre season. We are happy to announce the addition of extra help for the club with the arrival of Josh Oatly Josh brings a fresh approach to the club, and his skills and ability’s will be put to very good use. Although he will mainly be attached to the first team, he has already proved he is more than happy to show his skills when treatment is required in the club working with me in our treatment welcome to the Street Josh. We have also seen three of our very talented under 16’s step up into senior football this year and they are definitely proving that they are more than capable. Liv, Amelia and Keira have all progressed from Nic Turpin’s U16 side who compete in the Junior Premier League; quite frankly, they are absolutely smashing it too!

The ladies have been in preparation for The Hampshire County Women’s League (Division 2), which kicks off in mid-September since June. We have seen great turnouts for our pre season sessions and have had a lot of interest from potential players looking at joining New Street. We have definitely been put through our paces with intense fitness sessions whilst also trying a new formation this year. We were able to put this into practice with a friendly against Durrington back in July. The result was 3 3. We saw ourselves 2 0 down at half time and only conceded again in the last few minutes. We had two new signings scoring on their New Street Ladies debut which is a fantastic start of what is yet to come this season.

The ladies' team is a natural step up for our junior teams and this is the first season we are able to showcase the talent that we have at the club. The interest in ladies' football is on the rise (with huge thanks to The Lionesses) and we are over the moon with that. We are really hoping to see some new faces in the stands this season. Our league games are on Sundays with Kick Off at 14:00. It would be great to bring the force of Street to our opponents and show them how big of a family we really are. Maybe we could even get some of our younger fans as #UpTheStreetmascots?

Like many clubs, Chippenham have the life saving piece of equipment. Never did they expect to use it especially on one of their own players. But during the first half of their recent game with the Clarets, it became very apparent something was wrong when 21 year old Martinez went down. “It was a real shock you just don’t expect to see it,” Blackmore told The NLP. “I’ve been in football for a number of years and seen quite a lot of injuries. Broken legs, dislocated joints, cuts and things like that. As bad as they can be at the time, none of them are ever life threatening or very rarely. “But to see the club’s doctor knelt over him doing CPR is really shocking and hopefully we never see it again.

“The emergency services were fantastic too. Literally within minutes we had two ambulances and a rapid responder and a few minutes later an air ambulance landed. I can’t praise them highly “Byenough.thetime he left in a land ambulance he was sat up and gave us a wave. He actually said to the doctor from the helicopter, ‘Will I be OK to play on Tuesday?’” Of course, that game came a bit too soon for the former Bristol Rovers defender, but he was due to be fitted with an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) like Denmark international Christian Eriksen and hopes are he will play again. The fact this is a good news story is down to a lot of people. When the medical process swings into action, there can be positive outcomes. And Blackmore said it has hit home quite how important a defibrillator is. “I would say to everyone, it doesn’t matter if you’re a sports club or not, if you haven’t got access to a defib, please get one. Get some funding, get some sponsorship, get yourself a defib.

“The way everybody reacted was fantastic. He collapsed and straightaway the physio and a team mate, who is first aid trained, came onto the pitch and turned him over. Anton, the physio, said, ‘He’s stopped breathing’. Straightaway they started CPR. Our club doctor and paramedic ran on a they got the defib out and gave him a shock and he came round first time.

Every season there are stories that stop you in your tracks and aren’t forgotten. Often they come with a message that transcends well beyond the 90 minutes of action we are usually discussing. This month football had just that following the scary scenes seen at Chippenham Town in their National League South match with Chelmsford City when Pablo Martinez collapsed. For the Bluebirds chairman Neil Blackmore, the story has a simple reminder for clubs and all sport facilities make sure you have a defibrillator for that situation you hope will never happen.

On to Saturday and Petersfield’s good start to the season continued with a 3 0 win at Ash United, all the goals coming in the first half from Zak Sharp, Marvin Orepo and Keiran Alcock.

Horndean proved too strong for former Wessex League side Alton, a Connor Duffin hat trick and a goal from Zac Willett giving them a 4 1 victory, while Newport switched their tie to Warminster, held the hosts to a goalless draw after ninety minutes and then went through by a convincing 4 1 on penalties.

The remaining two victories also needed penalties to decide the outcome. A last minute penalty gave Sherborne a two all draw with Andover New Street Ross Cook with both the Street goals before the visitors went through 3 2 with keeper George Baxter saving three penalties. Pagham travelled to Maidstone and were level with Staplehurst Monarchs at two goals apiece in normal time strikes from Junior Kamara and Phil Turner before winning the shootout 4 2. The two defeats against sides from other Leagues both came in Surrey, Baffins Milton Rovers went down 2 1 at Badshot Lea Kelvin Robinson with the lone goal. While some ten or so miles away Alresford were beaten 4 3 by Godalming Town. It was three each at half time with the Alresford goals coming from Nick Yeomans with two and James Parker Trott, but it was the home side who scored the all important goal in the second half. Connor Kelly, Jordan Browne and Finn Smith the names on the scoresheet, the latter was only 16 on Friday, so a contender for youngest scorer of the competition, at least in this season anyway.

Seven in all Wessex Ties and five against opposition from other Leagues. Taking the all Wessex ties first, Bournemouth got the ball rolling on Friday evening with a best of three goals victory at near rivals Christchurch. Steffi Pilsoiu gave the home side the lead but two goals from Marcus Cullen saw the Poppies progress.

The five victories over “foreign opposition” started on Friday night with a goal fest at Fawley where the home side held Western League Wincanton Town to a five all draw over the ninety minutes before winning 3 1 on penalties. The Fawley nap hand came from Dylan Knight with a hat trick, James Clifton and Dec Hartigan. Records tend to suggest that this is the joint highest scored draw in Vase history unless of course you know differently. Anyone?

Either side of the stand are the club shop and tea bar and the corporate suite housing for matchday hospitality. Opposite the main stand is the modern and smaller Harry Mizen Stand (built 2011). It has an unobstructed view of the pitch and disabled access. The Harry Mizen Stand seats 300 people. Both ends of the ground are open, flat areas with no terracing. On the south side of the ground the Trappers Bar is the club's bar. At the north end of the ground are two mobile phone masts.
