DESIGN A PRIVATE SPACE
设计一个私人空间 ARCHITECTURE WORKSHOP JULY-AUGUST.2017
Project Brief
Allan Kaprow, Fluids - Happening, 1967
Workshop Topic
The workshop aims to acquire complete control of a small architectural project - to be included in the personal Portfolio. The main topic is organised around the concept of privacy, taken in its nowadays meaning. The participants will be invited to represent it by an architectural project in which to portray the imaginary space where can live an absolutely private condition and where everyone should feel free to do and to be what he prefers. During the one-week workshop the whole designing process will be experienced by introducing the participants a multiple design framework, allowing them to come in touch with the key points of a design methodology and stimulating them to develop a critical thinking. From the exploration of contemporary living philosophies and from the knowledge of the materials, techniques, technologies that are useful to solve the constructive features of the work, the participants will be conducted in different design scenarios and real case histories.
Specific Goals
− Learn the key points of the design practice; − Approach different design methods and cross-cultural processes; − Use critical thinking and objective assessment in the design process; − Explore the most suitable technique to represent an idea; (2D-3D images, cardboard model) − Learn how public discussion and critique can enhance a project; − Develop a valuable work to be included in the personal portfolio.
Workshop Structure
Participants will be asked to design a private space something more than a simple house, which could represent a personal concept of privacy, taken in its nowadays meaning. All participants are requested to have a basic knowledge of 2D software representation (CAD Language) and a minimum knowledge of graphic design software (Abobe Illustrator or Photoshop or Indesign), 3D software representation is not mandatory. The workshop is based on a 5 days program: it is structured through some communications related to the project topic and daily one to one revisions will be arranged to help each participant to develop and visualise its own idea. Every meeting has a specific topic and assignment to be constantly fulfilled. Furthermore, each participant will present his final work: another valuable skill to learn is being able to display and present your own project before entering the job market.
