Get BUSTER off to a good start! BUSTER invites you to a fantastic opening gala. We are rolling out the red carpet and welcome you to a preview of the terrific animation film ‘Animals United’. It will be lots of fun, when our host Sebastian Klein, from DR children’s TV programme ‘Naturpatruljen’, welcomes you to the 11-day film festival for children and adolescents. In the film we follow a group of animals on the savannah in Africa: a lion, a buffalo, a giraffe, a rhino, a meerkat, a cockerel and a polar bear who bury old hostilities and unite, in order to find out what has happened when the river suddenly doesn’t rise, like usual. It turns out that the humans have built a huge dam to create a luxurious holiday resort. The animals go into action and send a signal to the people to take better care of nature. Programme: 9.00 AM serving of complimentary refreshments from Valsølille in the foyer. 9.30 AM Sebastian Klein welcome guests. 10.00 AM Preview of the movie ‘Animals United’. (93 min)

AWARD CEREMONY
Awards And Closing Film: Arrietty 7 years +
BUSTER invites you to award ceremony in Palads. The atmosphere is tense and drums roll, when the children’s jury open the envelopes and reveal the winners of the ‘Nordic Film Foundation’s Best Film for Children’ and ‘Best Child Actor’. ‘Politiken’s Audience Award’ will also be awarded, and Jacob Riising will be hosting the event. It will be a morning filled with fun and entertainment. When the happy winners have been honoured, there will be a preview of the adventurous animated film ‘Arrietty’ based on Mary Norton’s beloved children’s book ‘The Borrowers’ and with screenplay by Hayao Miyazaki.
ARRIETTY 2010, 94 min. Danish Version Director: Hiromasa Yonebayashi / Production: Studio Ghibli / Producer: Toshio Suzuki / Script: Hayao Miyazaki, Keiko Niwa / Camera: Atsushi Okui / Editing: Rie Matsuhara / Cast: Mirai Shida, Ryûnosuke Kamiki, Shinobu Ohtake.
Arrietty and her family are tiny people living under the floor boards of a large house in an enchanted garden. The ‘real’ residents of the house are two elderly ladies, who are completely unaware of the small people’s presence - although Arrietty and Co. live by “borrowing” everything from food, gas, water furniture and fittings. And then also a little something for the sweet tooth every now and again! One day the 12-year-old boy Sho moves into the house. Arrietty’s parents have always warned her against being seen by the ‘real’ people, but Arrietty has not been good at listening, for she soon has ties with the new boy in the house... Programme: 9:00 AM Serving of complimentary refreshments from Valsølille in the foyer. 9:30 AM Jacob Riising welcomes you. 9:40 AM Nordisk Film Foundation hand over their awards. 10:00 AM Preview of ‘Arrietty’ (94 min)

CHILDREN’S JURY
Amal Aoulad Hammou
Anarim El-Chahabi
Johanne Von Scholten
My name is Amal Aoulad Hammou. I am a happy and kind girl, and I am also helpful. I have good general knowledge and take interest in many things. I watch a lot of movies in cinemas and on television, just like many other young people. Unfortunately I sometimes watch movies that are not suitable for me. As I attend a day school, until 3 pm everyday, I do not have time for leisure activities during weekdays. In weekends I spend time with my family and friends.
My name is Anarim El-Chahabi. I am 13 years old. I am in 7th grade at Hillerødgades Skole. I love movies on DVD as well as in cinemas. Furthermore I am very interested in soccer, and I often play it myself. Since I attend a day school, which lasts until 2.50 pm, I unfortunately do not have time to play soccer during weekdays. However I am satisfied with the school I attend.
My name is Johanne Von Scholten, and I am 13 years old. Ever since I was little, acting and actors have had my interest. My favorite movie genre is realism, since I can relate to the movie, and imagine how the main character must feel. No mater whether I see a movie with my family, friends, or girlfriends, a good movie is often what saves my day.
Jonathan Holstrup
Josefine Phillips
Manne Godsk Scheef
My name is Jonathan Holstrup and I am 13 years old. I am in 7.a at Gladsaxe Skole. In my spare time I attend a club, play drums, and watch movies, such as ‘School of Rock’, ‘Year One’, Indiana Jones’ and ‘Blades of Glory.’ To my opinion Jack Black is a good actress, since he is fun, and is always being himself. I wanted to be an actress myself, but started playing drums instead.
My name is Josefine Philips and I am 13 years old. I am in 7.a at Gladsaxe School. I use much of my spare time on horses, and among other things I attend horseback riding once a week. I love Justin Bieber and my favorite movie is ‘Justin Bieber - Never Say Never.’ Furthermore I like comedies and stand-up shows. I love animals. I have three animals at home and take care of two horses at my club.
My name is Manne Godsk Scheef, and I am in 8.b at Vangeboskolen in Søllerød. I play soccer five times a week, which is most of my spare time. When it comes to movies, I like thrillers, realistic dramas or a good ‘plug- chop and abduct.’ Also, I am always up for a comedy. A hit list of the best movies that I have seen will include ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, ‘All for one’ and the Bourne movies.

Elias And The Treasure Of The Sea Lise I. Osvoll. 4 years +
‘Elias and The Treasure of The Sea’ is an exciting animation movie for young children. With round shapes, primary colours and a clear narrative, the film is reminiscent in style and content of last year’s ‘Pelle Politibil’. Elias and the other people in Lunvik, have been looking forward to the annual winter fishing season for a long time, but the new, modern fishing industry with big trawlers is stealing all the fish, threatening the livelihood of Lunvik. Elias however gets wind of a secret treasure and he is convinced that this will save Lunvik.
ELIAS OG JAKTEN PÅ HAVETS GULL Norway 2010, 80 min. Danish Interpreter Director: Lise I. Osvoll / Production: Filmkameratene A/S / Producer: Sveinung Golimo, John M. Jacobsen / Script: Anne Elvedal, Lise I. Osvoll / Editing: Benjamin Sjur Blom / Cast: Yngve E. Marcussen, Sidney L. Lange, Elisabeth Moberg.
Chubby Drums Arne Toonen. 6 years +
Director Arne Toonen, the Dutch answer to Tim Burton, delivers a hilarious and entertaining story of an overweight family, who move to a town where everyone exercises like crazy and shuns fatty foods like the plague. ‘Dik Trom’ is the original title of the movie and also the lead’s name (in English: Chubby Drums). It’s an unfortunate name, when you are a little well padded and have just moved to Tyndstrup (Thin Town), a pastel-coloured, fitness and health stronghold. In his old town, where everyone had sensible love handles, he was a hero because he could make great water bombs in the outdoor pool, but in Tyndstrup it’s harder to become popular. In the United States there exists an association for overweight people with the slogan: “A waist is a terrible thing to mind” and according to Toonen and Co, there is some truth to this. The screening is taking place in Energicenter Voldparken and has come to life in collaboration with Kulturguiderne.

A Cat in Paris
Alain Gagnol & Jean-Loup Feliciolo. 6 years + In the cartoon ‘A Cat in Paris’ a professional burglar becomes friends with a little girl’s cat and soon they are the only force against a malicious band of thugs. A cool French detective story from the city of cities. Cut for the smaller audience and drawn with an aesthetic pencil line.
UNE VIE DE CHAT France 2010, 64 min. Danish Interpreter Director: Alain Gagnol & Jean-Loup Feliciolo
The Magicians Joram Lürsen. 6 years +
If you’re looking for nice, funny and well-acted family entertainment, then the Dutch ‘The Magicians’ is something for you. Ben’s father Koos is a forester, or rather used to be; for even though he wants to be in control of everything, he’s rather clumsy to the great amusement of Ben and his siblings. Ben’s mother is less enthusiastic about Koos and his ways. It is not the first time he has been fired. When Ben meets his idol, the magician Hans Smid, Koos gets an idea: A magic show - Koos & Son! But amateurs should be careful with magic, and soon a disappearing act goes completely wrong. The film won the Audience Award at the annual Children’s Film Festival in Kristiansand.

In ‘Alpha & Omega’ we meet the two wolves, Kate and Humphrey, who live in Jasper National Park. They’ve known each other since they were cubs and although they belong to different packs, their relationship has slowly evolved into a romantic one. This is however stopped when Kate’s father, who is head of the Alpha-pack, decides that she must marry Garth from their own pack. It becomes further complicated when Kate and Humphrey are captured by a forest officer and are taken to another national park. Now Humphrey devotes all his energies to show her, that he is the right one for her, as they defy the wilderness on their way back to Jasper National Park.

Blue Bird
Gust van den Berghe. 7 years + With its ethnographically poetic tone and magical folktale characteristics, ‘Blue Bird’ is a soulful journey across the Togo savannah, which touches on both life and death. The film is a story about how one day in a child’s life, can change the world. One morning Bafiokadié and his sister Tene leave their village. They want to find their lost blue bird, an Eastern Bluebird, before the day is over. But they end up finding much more on their travels: They encounter their deceased grandparents, they fight the forest spirit and learn about life from spiritual powers. They all tell them a story about life and death. At the end of their journey they come into the “Kingdom of the Future” and learn, that “when we lose something, we gain something else instead.”

Olivier Ringer. 7 years + A little gem is the Belgian-French drama ‘On the Sly’, where an original use of inner monologue and POV gives the audiences a rare glimpse into a little girl’s feelings. 6-year-old Cathy feels rightly neglected by his parents. On vacation at the cottage, she is left to care for herself, and had it not been for the meals, she could just as well have been invisible. In the deafening silence and absence of playmates she does her best to come up with new games. When the holiday is over and the parents are packing the car, getting ready to drive home, Cathy runs off during one of their parents’ quarrels. It takes a long time before they discover that Cathy is gone, and in the meantime, she has discovered a whole new world in the nearby forest.

The Liverpool Goalie Arild Andresen. 7 years +
The award-winning children’s film ‘The Liverpool Goalie’ dribbles straight into the hearts of audiences with a warm and absurdly funny tale of friendship, football and love. 13-year-old Jo is unfortunately not very useful as a goalkeeper, and the other boys in the class are not shy to remind him of it. But he is smart and knows how to swerve. When the new girl Mari starts in the class, Jo falls head over heels in love with her. But how will he win her heart? The film’s title refers to a very rare football card, that all of the boys who are potty about football want to get their hands on. This entertaining film has won scores of international film awards including the Crystal Bear in Berlin and the Grand Prix in Montreal.

Halbe Portionen Martin Busker. 8 years +
Umut and Luka are two very different boys who randomly meet each other one day on the streets of Stuttgart. Both mouth and feet are moving with Umut, while Luka only communicates with a hand puppet. The format of the film is half normal length, but that doesn’t mean that you’ll be wanting more with ‘Halbe portionen’ (in English: Half Portions). For there is both action and insightfulness in the meeting between the two roughly 10-year-old boys who are both under pressure, in different ways. They experience that unity is strength and in an otherwise very dramatic day, they each get a friend for life. Umut wants to be either a secret agent or police officer or something else action-oriented. Luka just wants to be present in life in a proper way. To stand together is strength. Also as a Turkish immigrant boy in Stuttgart. The director has five short films under his belt and is getting ready for feature films.

He is 11 years and no one really understands him. His father is a bit of a tyrant and his mother is also a bit coarse. It’s all black on black and the Six Year War is upon them in a beautifully filmed Israeli residential area, where chain dance can’t keep melancholy out of a lot of lives. Venice
Jan Jakub Kolski. 10 years + The 11-year-old Marek, is abandoned by his parents amid the greatest imaginable nightmare. The Second World War. At his aunt’s, he spends most of his time imagining how amazing Venice would be. His father is a bit of a weakling and his mother an ice queen. Neither of them can or want to take care of Marek, so he disappears into an imaginary world, that the experienced Polish director Jacub Kolski is a true master at creating. After a good story and with poetry in abundance, the director makes ‘Venice’ more complete than a family movie has the right to be. But with this film it is advisable to put “family movie” in quotation marks and be a bit cautious about which children to take to see the movie. They must be at least 10 years old and have a robust and open mind. In return, expect a great experience and something very serious to talk about when the lights go up after the performance.

Nannerl, Mozarts Sister Rene Féret. 13 years +
History remembers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, but few remember his equally musical sister Nannerl, who in her early years toured Europe with the rest of the Mozart family and performed at royal courts and among the nobility. When Nannerl was a teenager, the view of women of that time however, caught up with her - her father did not think it was appropriate for a woman to compose music and stand at the front of the stage. She could accompany her younger brother, that was all. ‘Nannerl - Mozart’s Sister’ tells her story - including how she tried to rebel, encouraged by France’s crown prince, who recognized her talent. The result is a beautiful and poetic film - with the social sting of a time, when women’s dreams and desires should preferably be restricted to that of the home.

Shelter
Dragomir Sholev. 13 years + When the 12-year-old Radostin runs away from home, his parents realise too late that they have wasted their parenthood with everything else but understanding their son. Just as his parents have reported his disappearance to the police, Radostin comes home: He has brought a girl home with him who is somewhat older. His parents try to take them seriously, although they are fighting the urge to say something. The age gap is apparent when the girl dresses up as a punk with a spikey collar after having a bath. The gap grows to the size of Grand Canyon, when a moody guy with a Mohawk suddenly rings the doorbell. The tension in the small apartment increases. In every scene there are equal parts humour and seriousness, embarrassingly and accurately delivered. The film is about the time when you go from being a boy to a teenager.

English Subtitles Director: Dragomir Sholev / Production: KLAS Film / Producer: Rossitsa Valkanova / Script: Razvan Radulescu, Melissa de Raaf, Dragomir Sholev / Camera: Krum Rodriguez / Editing: Kevork Aslanian / Cast: Cvetan Daskalov, Yanina Kasheva, Kaloyan Siriiski.
Silver Forest
Christine Repond. 13 years + Sascha doesn’t really know what he wants to do with his life after school. Most of his friends have begun to study or are being apprenticed, but he just smokes joints and pinches things. It’s not easy with girls either and a date with an otherwise sweet girl does not turn out the way he had hoped. When he gets a job as a lumberjack and discovers a hut, where neo-Nazis have parties, things in his life start to happen. He goes with his friends, but when the immediate fascination wears off, Sascha’s moral compass begins pointing due north. The Swiss ‘Silver Forest’ takes a closer look at youth apathy and identifies a raw realism and an understated drama that creeps under your skin.

Lollipop Monster Ziska Riemann. 15 years +
‘Lollipop Monster’ is a funky, German film about two 15-year-old misfit girls, that through an odd friendship, try to navigate through life’s mess of teenage sexual experimentation and dysfunctional families. Ariane and Oona, as the girls are called, each have their “issues”. Ariane hates her family’s hypocrisy and gets tarted up in provocative clothing at any “improper occasion”. Oona tries to get over her father’s suicide, by turning goth. Director Ziska Riemann, who also wrote part of the script, has a background as a comic writer and does indeed attack the issue of staging very creatively with the use of animated scenes and other breaks with tradition. It gives an exuberant and fresh experience.

Six months before the World Trade Center in Manhattan was reduced to dust and rubble, the Taliban were out on another destructive errand - smashing the ancient Buddha statues in Bamiyan. At the foot of the mountain side, where the statues had once stood in memory of Afghanistan’s past and a certain religious tolerance, hundreds of poor families moved into the caves, including Mir and his family. They hope to get one of the houses that a charity is building in the vicinity, but unfortunately there are not enough houses for everyone.

The Story of Rosa René Bo Hansen. 11 years +
In the new Danish documentary film ‘The Story of Rosa’ five young people from a poor background, decide to be brutally honestly about their thoughts and experiences. At the same time they make a film project based on their unique experiences. Dare I tell anyone? Will others be able to understand it, or will I be teased and bullied? For children and young people who live with people other than their parents because the parents are unable to take care of them, this issue is of great importance to them. Unfortunately many choose to keep it a secret, lonely and afraid: “When I’m in a foster home, do people think that it’s because nobody wants me?” Or: “If I tell about mother, her problems with drinking and drugs, what will they think?” In ‘The Story of Rosa’ five children have chosen to come forward. They tell about how life is, living with a foster family, while at the same time coming to terms with the neglect of their own parents. We follow the five of them and together with an artist they create the film about Rosa, a girl who must leave her parents in order to live with strangers.

How to Boil a Frog Jon Cooksey. 13 years +
The sharp, humorous environmental film ‘How to Boil a Frog’ doesn’t just tell us how bad things are and why. It actually has a solution to the troubles in this world! According to documentary film director Jon Cooksey, our big problem is the result of “overshoot” - that we are too many people, who consume too much of our small planet. Either there must be fewer people who consume less, or we need more planets! However less could do it and in a layer of entertaining wrapping, we receive the solution to saving our own lives. The title of the film refers to the curious fact, that if the temperature slowly rises in a saucepan with water containing a frog, the frog will not realize it and thus boil to death. However, if you throw a frog into boiling water, it will immediately jump out of the pot. We are the frog and we are slowly boiling ourselves to death.

Shorts 14 years + Total Running Time: 75 min. 14 years + In this absurd comedy, ‘anything goes’ in this wacky animated film about things you should not mix together. A charitable foundation is trying to fulfil the last wishes of young terminally ill people. ‘Wish 143’ belongs to a young guy who wants to have sex. An Oscar Nominated short film. The film community The Vikings, had a stroke of genius making the short film Planet. Is Earth’s destruction self inflicted and are we doomed to repeat our mistakes? The answer is not shrouded in mystery! A young man (Nikolai Kinski) sits trapped in a car surrounded by flames. Sulky and perplexed he waits and thinks, trying to understand how he ended up in this ‘hellhole.’ While blaming fate for his misfortunes, hope appears before his eyes: he has noticed a glimpse of beauty. The man’s sleek white shoe enters the frame and shamelessly steps onto the ideal colour saturated lawn of a miniature planet. Flawlessly dressed, he travels around the fantasy land, encountering all he needs for sustenance: a sheep that gives milk, a tree for shade, a pond with fish, a butterfly for beauty. Nothing could be more perfect. In a state of complete joy, intoxication and self-absorption, the man circles around the planet, using and enjoying’ and he leaves behind a never-ending trail of unwanted things. In an intelligent and self-critical way, Planet’s story evolves from ironic to absurd to grotesque, as our temperamental hero is surprised each and every time that he encounters the ever-growing nastiness. With carefully designed images, masterful art direction and detailed animation, this environmental short film creates a humorous mirror to our own lack of perspective and ultimately our myopic vision. In the bizarre town of Promptville everyone is busy, and at night time The Black Witch is creating havoc. A Moon Fairy has lost her wings. Can she find a friend who will help her? In ‘Tactless’ an autistic teenager is torn out of his closed world, when through his first kiss gets a glimpse of a world that is different but also dangerous.

Retrospective Søren Kragh Jakobsen Films, particularly classic films, should be seen in movie theaters! Søren Kragh-Jacobsen is one of Denmark’s foremost directors when it comes to cinematic stories about and for children and young people, and this year BUSTER wants to celebrate his unique contribution by showing four of his best films. The debut feature ‘Wanna see my beautiful navel?’ about the love pangs of teenagers is still considered the ultimate youth classic today. ‘Shower of Gold’ is the successful children´s tv mystery series that was converted into an equally successful full length film. The filmatization of Ole Lund Kirkegaard’s ‘Rubber Tarzan’ was both in Denmark and abroad practically hailed as the world’s best children’s film winning a number of awards, including the UNICEF award, the Bodil (The Danish Critics Association), and the Robert (The Danish Academy Award). Finally we’ll show the excellent war drama ‘The Boys from St. Petri’ about the resistance struggle of four highschool students during the Second World War. Kragh-Jacobsen is often recognized for his extraordinary ability to convey the tribulations of children and young people, and for extracting amazingly natural performances from his young actors who often have very limited experience. It’s a rare gift, and it has played a large part in ensuring his films a longevity that only few films boast. We can’t wait to see the films again!

RETROSPECTIVE / SØREN KRAGH JACOBSEN
Rubber Tarzan
Søren Kragh-Jacobsen. 5 years + Søren Kragh-Jacobsen’s second film, marks the start of a new era in Danish children’s films. Professionally, we’re talking about fantastic material and introduced to the concept of “magical realism”. Magical realism has almost become a genre in itself with a mixture of everyday life and adventure. This mixture works especially well in scenes between Ivan (Alex Svanborg) and the crane operator (a divine Otto Brandenburg) who philosophize about both large and small issues. The Story of Rubber Tarzan, who dreams of becoming strong and being rid of his tormentors, is written by Ole Lund Kirkegaard. It was a universal book and in film form, it is just as good; even considering that this year, we are celebrating the 30 year anniversary since its original release. Peter Schrøder plays the role of Ivan’s apathetic and mentally absent father with a very palpable Tarzan fetish.

Shower of Gold
Søren Kragh-Jacobsen. 6 years + Anders Bodelsen has written the story and Søren Kragh-Jacobsen has directed the film. This means that ‘Shower of Gold’ is sure to be a double whammy. The story is clear cut and the characters work beautifully. For example, as a super villain, Torben Jensen has rarely been better, than in the story of the four children who find 800,000 kroner in a cake tin in the woods and decide to keep money. Søren Kragh-Jacobsen ads enough personal directing into each character to make everyone in the family shudder and laugh at ‘Shower of Gold’. Just as impressive is it, that this hour and a half long film version has been reduced from a six episode TV series. The material included in the movie has been selected both skilfully and lovingly.

The Boys from St. Petri Søren Kragh-Jacobsen. 11 years +
Søren Kragh-Jacobsen has always had a good eye for young talent. This is truly visible in ‘The Boys From St. Petri’, where we see, now well-established actors and filmmakers like Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Karl Bille, Joachim Knop and Tomas Villum Jensen making their debuts. The story of teenagers who rebel against the Nazis and the German supremacy during the Second World War is based on the merits of the Churchill Club in Aalborg. With these realities, like a trampoline Søren Kragh-Jacobsen creates a story that concentrates more about the relationship between youngsters, than the acts of sabotage they orchestrate. It is probably the main reason, that his crossing of a teen and war movie from 1991 will be such a welcome reunification. The film gave the director international attention and his following movie was ‘The Island in Bird Street’.

Wanna see my beautiful navel? Søren Kragh-Jacobsen. 11 years +
It’s possible that Søren Kragh-Jacobsen could have been a good electrician. But why get him to do average electrical work, when he makes such fantastic movies? ‘Wanna see my beautiful navel’ is his film debut; an empathetic story of a boy and his first encounter with love. As an adult you’ll want see this movie again with trepidation and teenage nervousness. As a child you’ll see it with the longing of growing up. The ubiquitous rookie Søren Kragh-Jacobsen has even helped to write the music. Probably without knowing it, Søren Kragh-Jacobsen passed on the directing gene to his young, 15-year-old leading actor, Birger Larsen. He is now a director and has recently attracted attention with television series like ‘The Killing’ and ‘Those Who Kill’, but of course also the BUSTER-winner ‘Superbror’.

BUSTER FOR REAL
BUSTER For Real: Lies And Consequences Lies and consequences of lies is the catalyst for dramatic and comic entanglements in lots of films. BUSTER presents four obese films where lies are almost insurmountable, tragic consequences for the protagonists. A girl disappears a little too thoroughly using magic, a rock musician might have been a member of U2, a kid with wrestler talents gets a new home on false premises, and finally takes a high school student his father’s fatal illness on his shoulders.
The Strongest Man In Holland Mark de Cloe. 8 years +
Luuk has red hair, is not very tall and he has never known his father. But from what his mother has told him, his father must be the strongest man in the Netherlands. Luuk’s mother tells amazing stories about the father’s achievements. “He could pull an airplane and lift a car,” she insists. But Luuk has become tired of all the stories. He wants to meet his father and the best place to begin his search must be at strongman competitions. Soon Luuk is convinced that he has found his father, but the truth is not what he thinks. Perhaps one’s blood bonds are not as important, as the ones who love you? ‘The Strongest Man in Holland’ was selected for the Berlin Film Festival this year.

Tom McCarthy. 11 years + Wrestling and financial crises, sounds like an odd couple. But in Tom McCarthy’s tragicomic indie gem ‘Win Win’, it is what you’ll be exposed to. Forever excellent Paul Giamatti plays the lawyer and wrestling coach Mike, whose middle-class life is drowning in unpaid bills. In a weak moment he forgets his morals and becomes guardian of a demented client, only with financial gain in mind. It looks like a win-win situation for Mike, until the client’s misfit grandson Kyle shows up on his doorstep. Kyle turns out to be a talented wrestler and quickly they form a warm friendship. But Mike’s escalating web of lies threatens to destroy everything. The film is one of this year’s most critically acclaimed in the U.S.

Norman
Jonathan Segal. 13 years + Warm humour is mixed with the deepest seriousness in ‘Norman’, which is about the school nerd who gets caught in a serious lie, as his schoolmates think he has cancer. Norman lets them keep believing it to gain the sweet Emily’s interest. It just isn’t Norman, who is dying of cancer, it is his father. And now Norman is forced not only to play sick, but also be all alone with the pain that it is to lose his father. The ironic tone of ‘Norman’ is reminiscent of films like ‘Juno’, but the seriousness goes much deeper and emphasizes that you can’t tell a lie without consequences. And the more serious lie, the more serious are the consequences. The screening takes place in Bispebjerg Library and has come to life in cooperation with Kulturguiderne.

BUSTER Gives It a Go Music and film go hand in hand, and therefore we focus on music, rhythms, sounds, effects and movement in film in this year’s BUSTER Gives It a Go. The Great Kiwi Haka Nicole Hoey. 9 years +
Get ready for fun and engaging group dancing, when we go to New Zealand in BUSTER’s haka workshop. Neither energy nor war paint will be spared when it’s time for a real Maori atmosphere. The Maori, New Zealand’s original inhabitants, invented the haka dance in honour of its people at various ceremonies back in the 1820s. Today it is still a cherished dance and haka stands today, as one of the greatest symbols of New Zealand’s history. We will be showing the documentary series ‘The Great New Zealand Haka’, that tells the story of what the haka is and how it has been used since its origins. After the film, BUSTER’s haka expert Kane Harnett - Mutu, who is a genuine Maori, will guide you through the workshop. We start by putting on classic face paint, like the Maori did to honour their families. Then Kane will demonstrate
the various movements and not least the shouts, that are an important part of the haka. The stage is set for a fun filled morning, with dance and cries of war that go hand in hand. Anyone can join, so come and try your hand at this ancient tribal dance. 3rd - 6th Grade

The Weightless Traveller Eva Colmers. 10 years +
Here you get the opportunity to produce your very own music, when BUSTER invites you to an interactive music workshop for children. To help lead the day we have Chapper providing the vocals, Tao Højgaard on guitar and Daniel Lindberg on the saxophone, flute and laptop. Participants will have a direct influence on the music, when Überlyd & Chapper, at this interactive workshop for children, involves everyone and everything in a musical process. The workshop draws inspiration from the beautiful silhouette film ‘Den vægtløse rejsende’ which is about a young drifter, who must brave the big city, desert and jungle and the dangers that are involved. The film’s evocative soundtrack inspires you to create music from scratch, in close interaction between participants
and the artists. Here, a laugh, an outbreak or even a smacking smack will be recorded and sampled into a basic beat, and combined with conventional instruments, you will surprisingly quickly develop a real piece of music. A few days after the workshop the music can be downloaded for free on www.uberlyd.dk.

STOMP Out Loud
Luke Cresswell og Steve McNicholas. 10 years + When does noise become music? A question we will try to answer when BUSTER invites you to an extraordinary musical workshop. Here the drums have been replaced by trash cans, when we plunge into the Stomp’s rhythmic universe. There’ll be full-on clapping, stomping and beating on trash cans, when Buster invites you to an entertaining stomp workshop. Here normal instruments have been replaced by various everyday tools and the rhythmic senses are given free rein when we move beyond the boundaries of music class. We start with the movie ‘Stomp Out Loud’, which suggests several ideas on how the stomp can be expressed. For example when a group of basketball players dribble their balls and the chefs at a restaurant chop vegetables. Controlling proceedings is stomp-trainer Peter Stavrum Nielsen, who has performed
with the international show STOMP since 2001. Stomp has taken him around the world from Vejle to Tokyo, Cape Town and Sydney. Today Peter lives in Copenhagen, where he is part of the stomp-inspired show, “Body Rhythm Factory.”

In collaboration with Save the Children, Buster has developed a themed programme about conflict management, that is fit for discussion in the classroom. In preparation for the visit to FILM-X, students will see the tragicomic short film ‘Jacco’s Film’ and then work with the problems in the film based on a series of questions drawn up by Save the Children. During our lives we’ve all been in conflicts and we can recognize the unpleasant feelings that are involved, whether you are
directly or indirectly involved. By looking at some of the ways a conflict develops, we can sort out the conflict from the emotions. In FILM-X, pupils work with the film adaptation of a conflict in which they use cinematic tools to express their subjective experience. Students will gain a new and different approach to the theme by having to deal with the visualization of a conflict. Registered classes will receive a Save the Children presentation and ‘Jacco’s Film’ from BUSTER in August.

Health Fanatics Versus Bonvivant Arne Toonen. 6 years +
What is healthy and what is not for your body and soul is put at the test, in the amusing and entertaining ‘Chubby Drums’, directed by Arne Toonen, the Dutch answer to Tim Burton. Before the film, we will serve both a little something sweet and something healthy, so your body is in harmony when you meet on the big screen the obese Drums family, who have moved to a town where everyone exercises like crazy and shuns fatty foods like the plague. ‘Dik Trom’ is the original title of the movie and also the lead’s name (in English: Chubby Drums). It’s an unfortunate name, when you are a little well padded and have just moved to Tyndstrup (Thin Town), a pastel-coloured, fitness and health stronghold. In his old town, where everyone had sensible love handles,
he was a hero because he could make great water bombs in the outdoor pool, but in Tyndstrup it is harder to become popular. In the United States there exists an association for overweight people with the slogan: “A waist is a terrible thing to mind” and according to Toonen and Co, there is some truth to this.

Wickie the Mighty Viking Michael Bully Herbig. 6 years +
Today you can find traces of the Vikings everywhere - on bags of liquorice, packets of pâté, building blocks and on the heads of the Danish soccer fans. The Viking Ship Museum provides answers to whether the Vikings really had horns on the helmets, and whether ships’ sails were red and white like the current Danish flag. In the movie ‘Wickie - The Mightly Viking’ we meet a somewhat different Viking. Wickie is neither strong nor fearless, but somewhat of a scaredy pants. However, he does have his head screwed on right and the other Vikings have often been defeated by Wickie’s creative ideas. This skill also turns out to be of great benefit, when Wickie sails away with the adult Vikings, to what becomes a real Viking adventure.
After the movie we’re off to the jetty in the Viking ship hall, where the museum’s history and archaeology students are ready to explain more about the Vikings. They have with them weapons, pictures, colours, a modern clapping hands hat and a lot of interesting stories about myths and reality. Then we proceed to a merchant ship loaded with barrels, skins and iron and a warship loaded with shields, axes and swords. Here you can dress up as a great man, noble woman, or even as a warrior and write your name in runes. 10:30 AM: ‘Wickie - the Great Viking’ - with Danish translation. 12:00 to 4:00 PM: Free workshop. Give Life To The Nature / Tech Area Through Animated Stories 10 years + The Nature / Tech field holds many stories, many more than you’d think possible and the animation medium allows you to let the associations flow freely! Through animation, we can creep under the skin, into the body and take part in the immune system’s ferocious battles with invasive bacteria and masked viruses. We can crawl into the brain cells, or go on a journey into space. The laws of nature can be repealed and the unexpected may occur. It’s the unexpected that makes us laugh and that is what we remember. We can play with thought experiments like: Imagine if...?
The stories come to life by using the moving film technique, in which cut out cardboard figures are moved in front of a webcam. Through a computer programme, the single pictures come to life and are played as a movie. The completed films will be posted on YouTube. Registered participants will be contacted by The Animation Workshop with information on what to prepare. Get inspiration for the workshop here http://animatedscience.dk. MEDIA LAB FOR TEACHERS
The Teacher As a Film Producer Learn to handle a film production at school. This course puts teaching in films in focus. The course requires no special professional or technical qualifications. How do you best stage a complex project-based group assignment, which is what a film is? You will for example learn to select a film crew: how many pupils are needed and what functions should they perform? We will look at what stages to pay special attention to when the teacher acts as a film producer for one or more small film crews in the class. And you will have the tools to take targeted action when guidance is needed.
The starting point is the free, online learning tool Filmlinjen.dk, an interactive website that teaches pupils in each of their respective film roles and also serves as a work, management and communication tool for the class as a film crew. NB! Target group: All teachers, media advisors, or school librarians with pupils from the 7th class.
3D-Animation At TRUEMAX Academy you can get an exciting introduction to how 3D animation and wild 3D effects in movies are made. You create your own character and watch it come alive. Using your own imagination, you start by building and animating a fish in the program 3ds MAX. Then you place the fish in an exciting underwater environment where
it will move around. You will both work with the modelling of characters and gain insight into the colouring, lighting and the animation phase. Remember to bring your USB key if you want to take the movie home with you!
