Welcome to China

Dali

WELCOME TO CHINA FOR MANY, TRAVEL TO CHINA IS THE FULFILLMENT OF A LIFELONG DREAM.

Situated in eastern Asia, on the western shore of the Pacific Ocean, China’s continental coastline extends for about 11,200 miles and its vast sea surface is studded with more than 5,000 islands. It’s truly a land of beauty with its poetic landscapes around Guilin, dramatic gorges along the Yangtze, and striking mountain scenery. Fly to Shanghai—The Paris of the East—Walk along The Great Wall that stretches over 4,000 miles and visit one of the world’s most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th century – the Terracotta Warriors. For the more adventurous, experience a rickshaw ride through the traditional Hutong areas or tour the Three Gorges Dam and cruise upstream through some of the most dramatic scenery in the world. Beyond these historical sites and great wonders, the most enduring memory is often the charm of the Chinese people.

LOCAL EXPERIENCE

M

any inclusions are incorporated on our Escorted Group Tours, assuring your time in China is enjoyable and hassle free. While on tour, you will be accompanied by a National Escort from the time you arrive at the airport until you’re seen off at the end of your tour. In addition, you will meet a local guide in each city who will offer further insight into the destinations and sights. Food is an important part of any culture and the included three meals per day provides a wide variety of Chinese cuisine. A visa is required and included in the cost of your tour. A maximum of 28 passengers on a 45 passenger bus provides comfort throughout the day and all itineraries offer full days of sightseeing, domestic flights and entrance fees.

With years of experience in operating tried and tested tours throughout the region, you can be assured that our local knowledge on the ground is second to none. We have everything covered, leaving you to get the very best out of your visit.

BEFORE YOUR TOUR Within your travel documents, you will receive a detailed travel guide packed with helpful tips to prepare you for your trip; a suggested packing list; and a phrasebook, so you can practice your language skills before you leave.

GETTING THERE Your flights are an important part of your experience. International flights are available to complete your China package.

WHERE YOU STAY Your accommodations are selected for convenience of location, comfort or character, and can range from a business hotel in one city to a familyrun guesthouse in a smaller town. In more remote areas, accommodations may be of a lower standard and may not have all Western amenities. Rest assured that all hotels used by Wendy Wu Tours are regularly inspected by our staff and our partners to ensure that standards meet your needs.

FOOD AND DRINK Meals included are planned to give you a genuine taste of the regions we visit. Breakfast is a combination of local and Western food, usually served buffet style. Lunches and dinners consist of traditional local cuisine, served family style, with a wide range of dishes to choose from. Our fully inclusive Group Tours include all meals (excluding drinks). Private Tours provide some free evenings, offering flexibility for those who wish to explore the local restaurants.

The Wendy Wu Tours Experience

THE WENDY WU TOURS EXPERIENCE LOCAL TRAVEL The transport selected as part of your tour is intended to combine convenience and comfort with an enjoyably authentic travel experience. We believe that our customers like to be travelers as well as tourists, so you are not always “separated” from the locals. Our Group Tours are predominantly conducted using air-conditioned coaches, internal flights, trains and various types of boats.

PACE The Group Tours are graded as Comfortable, Medium and Active paced to reflect the level of fitness required. Alternatively, the range of Private Tours are more flexible and can better cater to individual needs.

GROUP SIZES Traveling with a small group of likeminded fellow travelers is a great way to enjoy new places, share new experiences and meet new people. The maximum number of passengers on the Classic Group Tours is no more than 28 passengers on a full-sized bus. Please Note: Minimum age for children is 12. Private Tours may be arranged for any number of travelers and are ideal for couples, families or groups of friends, who wish to enjoy a more personalized experience.

NO HIDDEN EXTRAS Classic Group Tours are fully inclusive of domestic transportation, accommodations, meals, daily tours (including entrance fees), Local Guides, National Escort (minimum 10+ passengers), Visa fees for US and Canadian passport holders and taxes. All you have to pay for locally is tipping and personal expenditures, including any optional excursions or shows you choose to add. Inclusions on Private Tours vary, depending on the itinerary.

OPTIONAL EXTRAS From time to time, your National Escort or Local Guide may suggest optional tours/sightseeing in addition to the standard sightseeing planned for that city, at an additional cost. Typical activities might include a rickshaw ride through a Hutong district in Beijing or a ride on the Maglev train in Shanghai.

TIPPING Tipping is a necessary part of the tourism industry worldwide. To avoid uncertainty about who, when and how much to tip, we have established a tipping system whereby all Group Tour passengers contribute to a “kitty,” paid at the beginning of the tour in cash (US dollars) to the National Escort, who then distributes it throughout the trip. Yangtze River Cruises implement a compulsory tipping service to be paid upon check-in in USD. This has been included in the tip amount for each tour. The tipping protocol can be found on each tour page within this brochure.

CLASSIC AND PREMIER COLLECTION GROUP TOURS Discover the magic of China with one of our popular Group Tours. By traveling with a group of likeminded people on tried and tested itineraries, our Group Tours offer a fully inclusive vacation at an excellent value.

YOUR NATIONAL ESCORT PLUS LOCAL GUIDES One of the key benefits of traveling on a Group Tour is that you will be accompanied by a National Escort throughout your vacation, from your arrival in China right up until you depart for home (minimum 10 passengers). You will also be joined by expert Local Guides who provide an authentic view of each place we visit. Our customers consistently sing the praises about the knowledge and professionalism of our National Escorts and Local Guides, particularly their friendly, supportive nature.

GUARANTEED DEPARTURES ON ALL TOURS Book with confidence knowing that our tours are guaranteed to depart. This is subject to a minimum of two passengers traveling and applies to all departures. A National Escort will accompany each group of over 10 travelers, while groups of a smaller size will use Local Guides only.

SMALL GROUP SIZE The group size varies depending on the tour, but we offer a maximum of no more than 28 passengers on all Classic Group Tours, and 20 passengers on Premier Tours, although you may meet other groups traveling concurrently. Traveling with a small group of likeminded fellow travelers is a great way to enjoy new places, share new experiences and meet new people.

SEAT-AND-A-HALF POLICY Your comfort is our priority, so for a group of 28 passengers we will use a motorcoach with about 48 seats. This gives our passengers over a seat and a half of space each, allowing ample seating and storage space. On some departures where we have a smaller number of passengers we may reduce the vehicle size, but we will always endeavor to maintain our seat-and-a-half policy. The only exceptions are where we are in remote areas or are obliged to use official vehicles (e.g., within a national park). The prices of our Classic Group Tours are great value because they are absolutely, fully inclusive: • Domestic transport and transfers • All Accommodations and Cruises • Meals as indicated (including Feature Dinners on Classic Tours) • National Escort and Local Guides • Daily Tours with Entrance Fees • Visa Fees for US and Canadian passport holders • Taxes All you have to pay for locally is tipping and any personal expenditure which could include optional excursions, shows or of course, souvenirs.

PREMIER TOURS Based on our proven successful Classic itineraries, The Premier Collection of tours - A China Experience, Majestic Yangtze, Wonders of China, Grand Yangtze and Yangtze Splendor - offers clients the opportunity to experience the marvels of China with some extra indulgences. We have selected five star luxury hotels for you to enjoy. These hotels are of a western standard in central locations, such as the Shangri-La Hotel in Beijing, the Grand Central Hotel in Shanghai and the Sheraton in Guilin. The group size has been limited to a maximum of 20 total passengers per group. Not only does this give you more space on the coach, it also gives you more one on one time with the National and Local Tour Escorts. Remember you will be guided by two escorts, one who will be with you throughout your tour and a second Local Guide who will be a specialist in each city you visit. We have upgraded the meals to give you more choices and extraordinary culinary experiences including Peking duck at the famed Quanjude Restaurant and a Shui Jiao Dumpling Banquet at De Fa Chang Restaurant in Xian. We have also left some evenings free so you can enjoy a quiet evening away from your group. Your Tour Director will be available to help you make reservations. Whatever your choice, Classic or Premier, you are about to journey to a magical place and have the experience of a life time.

EXPLORING INDOCHINA AND JAPAN TAKE AN EXPERIENCE TO THE FAR EAST EVEN FARTHER. The exoticism of this region has long fascinated, from the age of colonialism that left its mark of French influence on Vietnam to modern day Japan, which has become as synonymous with futuristic cities as it had been with ancient culture. This sense of culture runs deep here, from the astounding Temples of Angkor Wat, not far from Cambodia’s golden beaches, to the lush rainforests and mighty Mekong River of yet untouched Laos. And in much the same way that Thailand’s bustling cities and picture-perfect beaches provide the ultimate mix of city and sun, these tours in Indochina and Japan create a stunning kaleidoscope of what makes Asia just so extraordinary.

As brilliant as its vibrant nightlife and as bright as the sun on luxurious resorts in Phuket, Koh Samui and Cha’am are the smiles of the people in this friendly country, which is lauded for its temples, floating markets and magnificent landscapes. 2 LAOS

Experience the Asia of old in this small country that makes a big impression. Historic cities such as UNESCO World Heritage Site Luang Prabang stay frozen in time against a dramatic, tropically mountainous setting that remains untamed. 3 CAMBODIA Perhaps most famous for the Angkor Wat temples, the largest religious monument in the world, the rich tapestry of this country’s many cultures can also be experienced in Siem Reap’s many markets. Wendy Wu itineraries visit both. 4 VIETNAM

Home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Southeast Asia, this land of friendly people, historic cities and peaceful villages is also one of fertile delta plains, verdant paddy fields, rugged mountains and winding rivers. 5 JAPAN

More than 4,000 islands make up the “Land of the Rising Sun,” one of the ten most populous countries in the world, as well as one of the most intriguing. At first, its history, culture and scenery captivated the West; today, its technology and progressiveness continues to do so.
