- Negative Space Andrei Nemes
“We dwell in spaces of memory and dreams, suspended in the echo of time, from our bed to our bedrooms, from our mind to the speckle of the universe. We are one entity, space, memory, and architecture.

By reading the book Species of Spaces and Other Pieces by Georges Perec and Poetics of Spaces by Gaston Bachelard I wanted to explore the powerful presence of the indoor spaces that we as humans coexists. We dwell in different worlds each time we flow through spaces, we are absorbed by the negative space subtracted from a mass of architecture. The positive space becomes the objects, walls, floors roofs and materials we absorb as the most universal properties of our existence, which is the negative space. The design of the spaces is serene and simple, but the materials complexities vibrating personal memories and stories, that are suspended in my consciousness. Aged, worn out, overlooked objects and materials form the interior spaces. Threshold, being a most complex categories of thought and existence, how one enters and exits a space is explored in the first-floor plan. The bedroom represents the very radiation of a fictional memory perhaps of bedroom, or is it a dream? I have yet to capture what is it. The library represents the urge of knowledge and striking a relationship to the wisdom of a tree. The drawing style is explored to show texture, old worn out materials, and a hazy dream like reality. The diagrams are a study of how the negative space can create the form of the building, revealing the tension inside and outside.
