450,000+ homes destroyed, over 1,000,000 people homeless, 75% of crop damage, major food shortages, gasoline prices increased 50% overnight with a gallon of gas costing $7.00 - $8.00. I know that you share with me a love for Cuba and the Cuban people. For that reason I am writing to you to let you know how terrible a situation the Cuban people find themselves in at this time. I have been in constant contact with my Cuban contacts over the past 3 weeks as 2 major hurricanes have devastated the island. Gustav passed over the western area of Cuba as a Category 4. It literally leveled several towns and completely devastated the electrical system. The Isle of Youth, an large island of about 100,000 inhabitants was leveled as well with 100% electrical lose. 10 days later, Ike came through Cuba entering the eastern tip and going the full length of the island, even passing over the area that had just been devastated earlier. The final result: 450,000+ homes destroyed, over 1,000,000 people homeless, 75% of crop damage, major food shortages, gasoline prices increased 50% overnight with a gallon of gas costing $7.00 - $8.00. All this comes on top of a country already experiencing crippling poverty with the average salar of $15.00/month. The
experts say that the conditions are ripe for widespread disease and famine to set in soon. The great majority of Cubans want to be free of Castro and communism. The Cuban people love America more than any other Latin Americans I have ever met because we symbolize freedom to them. The Cuban government is bankrupt and can’t begin to meet the needs of the people at this time. Latin Impact Ministries has been working in Cuba for the last 15 years and we know the island from one end to the other and have contacts everywhere. I’ll be going down the first of November to see what we can do to help. We would appreciate any donations possible to take directly to the people in need. Anyone who wants to donate should know that 100% of what they donate will go directly to affected people. Also, people can donate to our ministry and receive a tax deductible receipt. They can donate Thanks for all your help with this effort and God by sending a check to our organization or they can bless you, go on-line and donate through our website: Russell www.latinimpact.org
