“I use to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels the same way I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it’s true I’m Here, and I’m just as strange as you.” Frida Kahlo

Henry Ford Cancer Center Detroit, Michigan
vvvvvv
Founded in 1915 by auto pioneer Henry Ford and now one of the nation’s leading health care providers. It is comprised of hospitals, medical centers and one of the nation’s largest group practices, the Henry Ford Medical Group, which includes more than 1,200 physicians practicing in over 40 specialties. The System’s Level 1 Trauma Center recognized for clinical excellence in cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, sports medicine, multi-organ transplants and cancer treatment.
Requirements Henry Ford Innovation Institute challenged the Senior & Junior CCS Interior Design class to address innovation, patient-centered design, and the application of healthcare trends to create a comprehensive cancer care center, south of the existing campus. Through research, human-centered design, and empathy we narrowed our focus onto three major ideas of exploration. The purpose of this project keys into the following ideas: How does architecture support patient choice, control, and empowerment? Which types of interactions will engage meaningful connections with patients and the staff of Henry Ford Health System? In what ways can a just-in-time model of service be incorporated to reduce patient anxiety to result in a more positive experience?
Personal duties included: t After individual research and themes were pinpointed, the design for the new cancer center was broken down into three key areas: t Outreach t Integrated (Alternative) t Traditional (Clinical)
