Garfield Park Arts Center I. Osogbo-The Art of Heritage Exhibition

Concerts

Spearheaded by Austrian artist Susan Wenger in the early 1950's, the Osogbo School of Art in Osun State Nigeria produced many notable artists, among them are Chief Muraina Oyelami, Nike Davies, Chief Buraimoh, Yinka Adeyemi and Twins Seven Seven. The Osogbo School was also a major influence on the work of Picasso and other contemporary 20th century artists. This is evidenced in the similarity in color palette, cubist figures and shapes, and other prominent features found in works created within the Western European contemporary art world in the middle of the 20th Century. This exhibit will feature works by first generation artists such as Twins Seven Seven, Chief Oyelami, James Adedayo and Yinka Adeyemi, as well as works from 2nd and 3rd generation and contemporary artists rooted within the ever-evolving legacy of Osogbo's rich artistic heritage. 232071 Sep 9 to Sep 30 No age limits

Indy Parks Swim School Youth Swim Lessons

Swimming builds self-esteem when a child performs a skill that was once impossible to them! The Indy Parks Swim School Preschool swim lessons are designed for children 3 years to 6 years and will concentrate on becoming more comfortable in the water and strengthen students' ability to perform skills independently. Skills taught at this level will include proper front and back floating, kicking, gliding, treading water and successfully performing front crawl. Skills are age appropriate with a 1:4 ratio and will prepare the child for success in youth level classes. Children must be pottytrained and be able to take instruction without parental supervision. 233873 Sep 14 to Oct 7 3 years to 6 years

Children who know how to swim not only can save themselves when in water, but are far more equipped to recognize the dangers of water. Indy Parks Swim School Youth swim lessons are designed for children 5 and over and will cover a broad range of core swimming skills helping students become proficient in the four basic strokes of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly as well as basic water safety. The 1:6 ratio allows students to move through each level at their own pace while building endurance in the water and working on stroke perfection and technique. Children should be ready for stroke development and be able to sit through a 45 minute class. 233877 Sep 14 to Oct 7 5 years to 14 years
