The plaque is signed by the three crew members of Apollo 11 (Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr) and US President Richard Nixon.
For the purposes of type classification, sans-serif designs can be divided into four major groups

Neo-Grotesque of Traditional or Realist: The most common sans-serif fonts. Relatively straight in asppearence and have less line width variation than the Humanist.
Humanist: The most caligraphic of the sanserif, with slight variation in line width. Tahoma

A geometric sans-serif produced from a competing foundry in the wake of the sucess of Futura.
Inspiration The spine of the “s” is much straighter in the geometric sans-serif.
Futura
Notice the strong variations in the “t” starting with the imbalance of all the cross strokes besides the Helvetica. Also the tail or finial produced to the right side on the non-geometrics
Futura will continue to be used well into the future for a modern and simplistic voice. Paul Renner and his Futura typeface can be seen as a bridge between the traditional (19th century) and the modern (20th century).
