Separating from Family Issues

We can draw a healthy line, a healthy boundary, between ourselves and our nuclear family. We can separate ourselves from their issues.

Some of us may have family members who are addicted to alcohol and other drugs and who are not in recovery from their addiction.

Some of us may have family members who have unresolved codependency issues. Family members may be addicted to misery, pain, suﬀering, martyrdom, and victimization.

We may have family members who have unresolved abuse issues or unresolved family of origin issues.

We may have family members who are addicted to work, eating, or sex. Our family may be completely enmeshed, or we may have a disconnected family in which the members have little contact.

We may be like our family. We may love our family. But we are separate human beings with individual rights and issues. One of our primary rights is to begin feeling better and recovering, whether or not others in the family choose to do the same.

We do not have to feel guilty about finding happiness and a life that works. And we do not have to take on our family’s issues as our own to be loyal and to show we love them.

Often when we begin taking care of ourselves, family members will reverberate with overt and covert attempts to pull us back into the old system and roles. We do not have to go. Their attempts to pull us back are their issues. Taking care of ourselves and becoming healthy and happy does not mean we do not love them. It means we’re addressing our issues.

We do not have to judge them because they have issues; nor do we have to allow them to do anything they would like to us just because they are family.

We are free now, free to take care of ourselves with family members. Our freedom starts when we stop denying their issues, and politely, but assertively, hand their stuﬀ back to them—where it belongs—and deal with our own issues.

Today, I will separate myself from family members. I am a separate human being, even though I belong to a unit called a family. I have a right to my own issues and growth; my family members have a right to their issues and a right to choose where and when they will deal with these issues. Know when to compromise

Remember that what may be an acceptable compromise for one person might not be acceptable for you. Know your limits, know your values, and be aware of the dangers that can come from compromising them.

God, help me be aware of my limits. Give me the strength not to compromise the values that I need to help me on my path.

this seems to be the issue with her macbook. i need to remove the apps and reinstall them in her name. yikes. “I recently also had this issue. I kept getting update requests in the app store and when I tried to update the apps it would ask me to sign in as a diﬀerent user. I solved it by going into my application folder and deleting all the apps with updates from the other user. I then refreshed the app store update page and it took care of everything. In total the process took less than 5 minutes. I hope this helps you”

Tribute cartoons to the journalists at Charlie Hebdo compare pencils with guns, writers with fighters - it's also why some demonstrators are holding pens and pencils in the air. Many assert that "the pen is mightier than the sword". But where does this idea originate?

The English words "The pen is mightier than the sword" were first written by novelist and playwright Edward Bulwer-Lytton in 1839, in his historical play Cardinal Richelieu.

Richelieu, chief minister to King Louis XIII, discovers a plot to kill him, but as a priest he is unable to take up arms against his enemies.

His page, Francois, points out: But now, at your command are other weapons, my good Lord.

Richelieu agrees: The pen is mightier than the sword... Take away the sword; States can be saved without it!

The saying quickly gained currency, says Susan Ratcliﬀe, associate editor of the Oxford Quotations Dictionaries. "By the 1840s it was a commonplace."

Today it is used in many languages, mostly translated from the English. The French version is: "La plume est plus forte que l'epee."

Bulwer-Lytton is also renowned for the opening line "It was a dark and stormy night" and has given his name to an annual contest for badly written first sentences.

This is the first sentence of his 1830 novel, Paul Cliﬀord, in full:

It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents - except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness.

According to the Cambridge Dictionaries website the saying emphasises that "thinking and writing have more influence on people and events than the use of force or violence".

But Bulwer-Lytton was not necessarily the first to express this thought. Ratcliﬀe points to two earlier texts.

Robert Burton, in The Anatomy of Melancholy, published in the early 17th Century, describes how bitter jests and satire can cause distress - and he suggests that "A blow with a word strikes deeper than a blow with a sword" was already, even in his day, an "old saying".

A similar phrase appears in George Whetstone's Heptameron of Civil Discourses, published in 1582, Ratcliﬀe notes. "The dashe of a Pen, is more greeuous then the counterbuse of a Launce." (The dash of a pen is more grievous than the counter use of a lance.)

Hacking group Anonymous has claimed responsibility for disabling an extremist website based in France.

A post on Twitter said "Tango Down" and included a link to a site which has been linked to extremists.

Anonymous "declared war" on jihadist websites on Friday after the Paris attacks.

The group posted a video saying it would target extreme social media accounts as part of eﬀorts to protect freedom of speech.

The warning came in the same video as a tribute to the victims of the attack on French satire magazine Charlie Hebdo.

On Sunday, more than a million people marched through the streets of Paris in solidarity, as well as in London and other cities around the world.

A Belgian part of the hacking group said in the message: "We are declaring war against you, the terrorists."

Since it was posted on 8 January, more than 6.5 million people have watched the clip, which shows a figure wearing the group's signature Guy Fawkes mask.

In an earlier message posted on forum site Pastebin, the group addressed the "enemies of freedom of expression", and warned extremists: "Expect a massive frontal reaction from us because the struggle for the defence of those freedoms is the foundation of our movement."

The message signed oﬀ by saying: "We will not forget. We will not forgive. Dread us."

I was sitting at home worrying one day when a friend called. He asked how I was. I told him I was worrying. Actually, I was crossing the line into obsessing about something that was going on in my life then. “There’s nothing you can do about it,” he said. “Just relax. It’s out of your control.”

What my friend was really talking about was practicing the discipline of letting go. After I hung up the phone, I deliberately put my worries and obsessions aside. I surrendered to the way things were. I simply relaxed. It was like a miracle. I was able to move forward with my life.

When we begin letting go, it may seem almost impossible just to relax and let go. As with anything else, with practice and repetition, we will become more skilled. That doesn’t mean we won’t need to remember to do it. It just means letting go will become easier, in time.

If you’ve become highly skilled at worrying, obsessing, or trying to control, deliberately practice relaxing and letting go until you’re good at that, too.

God, help me make the discipline of relaxing and letting go a daily part of my life. Teach me to let go with poise, dignity, and ease.

Let the answers come naturally.

Have you ever gone into a room to get something and by the time you got there, you forgot what you went to get? Often the harder we try to remember, the worse our recollection.

Gratitude

Sometimes in life, things happen too fast. We barely solve one problem when two new problems surface. We’re feeling great in the morning, but we’re submerged in misery by nightfall.

Let go of the past

I was sitting outside on the patio one morning. A foggy mist gently covered the peaks of the Ortega Mountain Range. The birds were singing. My mind wandered back to ten years ago and my life in Minnesota with my children, Shane and Nichole.

Shane was still alive then. Nichole was still living at home. Our love, our family bond, was so strong. “We’ll always get together for birthdays,” we had vowed. “Our bond, our love, will live on.” It had been the best year, the happiest year, of my life. I wanted that time back again. If I could just see him again, for one minute. If the three of us could just be together again, for one day,I yearned, life would be so good.

Later that morning I picked up an Osho Zen meditation card—not to tell the future, but to get insights into now.

My card talked about “clinging to the past.”

It said, “It’s time to face up to the fact that the past is gone, and any eﬀort to repeat it is a sure way to stay stuck in old blueprints that you would have already outgrown if you hadn’t been so busy clinging to what you have already been through.”

“Silly me,” I thought, coming back to the patio and to the Ortega Mountain Range. “Even though life is diﬀerent and I miss the children, life is pretty good now.”

Could the futuristic transport system finally become a reality?

An ambitious plan to build a transport system that could theoretically travel at speeds of up to 700 miles per hour has taken a step closer to reality.

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk tweeted he would build a test track for his Hyperloop "most likely in Texas".

He provided few details about timetable or cost, although he said that he planned to use the test track to hold annual pod racer competitions.

Mr Musk envisages the system operating between cities.

There has not been much development since the founder of PayPal announced his plans in 2013.

But this week he tweeted :

Later he told the Texas Tribune that the expected the test track would be about five miles long.

Air hockey

Mr Musk, founder of Space X and chief executive of Tesla Motors, first announced plans for the Hyperloop in August 2013.

The system, he suggested, could transport passengers between Los Angeles and San Francisco in less than 30 minutes thanks to an innovative design that Musk has described as a cross between Concorde, a railgun and an air hockey table.

This would see passengers sit in cars that were then fired down a tube which had had most of its air removed. A system of magnets would accelerate and brake the capsules, and also keep them from touching the sides of the tube.

Mr Musk said that a passenger-only model would cost about $6bn and that a prototype would take three or four years to complete.

Already there is a crowd-funded California-based project - Hyperloop Transportation Technologies - that has begun thinking about how such a system could be constructed, although they have not yet produced a working prototype.

Some 100 engineers from across the US are working on the development of the system but say that they are at least 10 years away from a commercially operating Hyperloop.

The world of business development has shifted in a major way in the last six months

and if you don’t adapt you may very well go BANKRUPT!

As my devout followers know I’m a HUGE advocate of marketing automation. Actually, I’d go as far as to say I’m FANATICAL about marketing automation because I’ve seen how it can help companies double their sales and triple their profits!

However, in the last six months, I’ve experienced first hand a shift in B2B and B2C

sales… I can no longer rely heavily on email marketing to convert leads into prospects.

I’ve had to integrate a multi-media approach!

Here’s the problem!

• Too many people are using ONLY email to market their business

• Too many people do not have strict enough spam policies and as such consumers

are skeptical of email marketing

• Email open rates have dipped so low its ridiculous (industry wide, not just us)

Here’s the opportunity!

• If you integrate a multi-media approach to your marketing campaigns you will stand

out beyond the clutter and it will impact your response rate (in a good way!)

• Use paper! Direct mail, if done properly, is showing to be very beneficial. Let me

give you an example; we do seminars all over the world (I just came back from a

world tour where we did 15 seminars in 20 days in 5 diﬀerent countries) and in the

past we would only rely on an email confirmation and email to send instructions for

registrants. We have recently changed our approach to include a piece of mail and

a phone call and we’re seeing this work very well because the correlation of those

mailed and those attended is over 80% in some cases (I call that proof)!

The BIGGEST Opportunity

Pick up the phone! My recommendation to all of my clients is to rely more heavily on the

phone. If you integrate a good phone campaign mixed with paper and email marketing

automation you will have a winning combination that is surely to pull better than just

email!

In our company, in the last two weeks and in the coming two weeks we will have dialed

over 2500 phone numbers to keep our clients and prospective clients in the loop on

what’s happening with us and how they can participate and grow.

Yes using the phone is more expensive than automated email marketing but the

question is not what is the least expensive you should consider the ROI instead of just

looking at costs. If an email campaign will yield two clients and cost say $50 but a multi-

media campaign will yield 20 new clients and cost $250… even though the costs at 5x

as much, the yield of customers is also 10x as much creating a situation for exponential

+44growth!
