Water Level Sensor

We started using this unit in lamp post bases, taking power from our enLight system (meaning that the water level sensor doesn’t require batteries). The water level sensor – accurate to the nearest millimetre – measures the water table in order to provide information about imminent flooding, allowing users to adjust the environment accordingly. Our wireless versions of this unit can be used in drains, bore holes, gutters and similar places –anywhere that doesn’t support wired connections.

Our thermocouple measures high temperature and can be used in situations up to 1200°C.

This interface enables you to monitor plant or machinery where it could be dangerous for humans manually to gauge a temperature. When used in conjunction with our DOLFin® Pro, mesh controller or IO controller, the thermocouple would trigger a fan if the temperature was too high in the plant room.

While initial set-up requires a mesh controller, IO controller or power node and your chosen enSense sensor, adding additional sensors doesn’t need further controllers. Sound Sensor

Listening out for the sounds that are crucial to your operating environment, the enSense sound sensor can measure background sound level, or can be set to listen for a specific trigger – for example, the sound of breaking glass. Perhaps you need a certain room to be quiet, or you may wish to monitor background sound levels in a public place. Connecting the sound sensor to our enVision LED colour display could alert users of the environment to increased sound levels.

Microclimate Sensor

Bringing the barometer firmly into the 21st century, our enSense microclimate sensor can measure air temperature to an accuracy of 0.1˚C, as well as recording barometric pressure and humidity. This information can be used for comparison with forecasts, as well as to prompt any environmental changes that might be necessary owing to unexpected weather conditions. In a public space, real-time weather conditions could be displayed, allowing people to modify their travel plans if appropriate.

PIR Sensor

The PIR sensor is one of our longest-serving products. It measures infrared radiation emitted from objects in its field of view and therefore acts as a motion detector. Depending on the outcome you require, you could then use our systems to connect to other devices triggered by motion, such as lights, or an alarm.

Our optical sensor can see whether the lights are on, and can also analyse the brightness of the light and the colours in its spectrum, giving colour temperature. It can identify an overcast sky or a bright day, as well as changes to internal light levels, which can trigger the appropriate response to modify surroundings accordingly.

Contactless Temperature Sensor

This clever thermometer can gauge temperature without actually having to touch the object whose temperature it is measuring. When installed in an rural winter environment, perhaps on a lamp post, it is particularly useful for detecting black ice – which could be lifesaving. Connected to our enVision LED colour display, drivers could then be warned of the risks on the road ahead and change their speed to suit.

The infrared remote control node will pick up infrared signals from other devices and can be connected to our communications network to trigger a response. So, for example, this would be ideal in the home: as you sit down in your favourite chair and turn on the telly, the IR remote control node sends a signal to dim the lights and even select the channel you want to watch.

Air filters serve a vital purpose in air-purification systems in multi-occupancy residential and office buildings, but owing to the nature of their job they frequently clog up with dirt. Our differential pressure unit measures the difference between the two sides of the filter inside fresh air processing units and can let you know when the filter needs to be changed.

The World Health Organisation measures air pollution based on levels of nitrogen dioxide and ozone. Our range of gas sensors measure levels of NO2 and ozone in the air over a 24-hour period and can monitor air pollution. When used in conjunction with our enVision LED colour display, they can alert citizens to unfavourable environmental conditions, and be configured to sound an alarm if required.

Planners can also use data gathered by our sensors to decide whether to limit vehicles in a particular area.

Asset Monitor

The asset monitor has been designed to be a generalpurpose small enTalk mode for monitoring existing assets. It keeps an eye on “always on” workplace items such as integral plant and equipment and enables you to monitor their condition. This versatile module can be connected to a range of enLight products. It consolidates a range of different sensors into one device when the application does not warrant a large portfolio of devices

– for example, we can detect vibration, temperature, barometric pressure, light level, orientation and occupancy.

Our internal air quality sensor monitors VOC levels, 2 and TVOC in workspace areas. VOCs are thought to trigger allergies so monitoring this data could really help any employee suffering allergic reactions to paints or finishes. This device monitors stored grain by using multiple sensing heads across several points in a cross-section. Installing single or multiple sensors at the extremities of agricultural equipment can prevent potentially fatal accidents by ensuring that power cables are not sprayed by water or wet fertilisers. The sensor detects the presence of overhead power cables by picking up on the electrical field and can be fitted on one or many instances, so you could attach sensors to every extremity of a large crop-spraying device.

Soil Moisture Sensor

Traditional soil moisture sensors are fitted with two metal spikes and they measure resistance in order to assess whether soil is wet or dry. The problem with this method is that metal corrodes, so our version is not only coated in a plastic membrane but also doesn’t actually have to touch the soil, thus prolonging the life of the sensor. Creating an array of soil moisture sensors could provide valuable irrigation data, for example on agricultural land or a golf course.

Our input links sensors and feeds the information into your data systems – it’s particularly useful in automated environments, such as production lines. Connecting a standard sensor could, for example, tell you the hydraulic pressure of oil based on the strength of the analogue signal received, and if necessary start a pump to adjust the pressure, switching it off again when the correct levels are achieved.

8-channel IO Module

The input/output (IO) module can accommodate up to eight devices, facilitating the integrated operation of your sensors. The module is able to read inputs from many kinds of switches and triggers so is able to connect doors, water flow meters and security systems, for example. Adding the 4-channel relay allows for 240v capacity so that regular appliances could be triggered. So, for example, if you wanted to maintain a sensible temperature in your office, you could use the kit on the opposite page.

Our DINrail power node doesn’t just switch things on and off – it also monitors energy consumption, so you can configure it to turn off your devices when you need to save energy. and therefore reduce running costs. It can also let you know when a lamp has blown or an appliance is not working. In a domestic setting, you might use it to control your garden lights remotely in order not only to light up your outside space but perhaps also to create the illusion of occupancy when you’re not in. Bird Scarer

Our enAct bird scarer is less cumbersome to deploy than traditional models. We have also improved the timing accuracy of the ignition. By shrinking the battery, we’ve revolutionised the set-up of the bird scarer, meaning not only are there now only two parts (the scarer and the LPG canister) to carry into the field, but winter charging becomes easier – our version plugs into the mains.

Our DOLFin®Pro allows the bird scarer to carry a range of different sensors, enhancing its scope and functionality. This module can be retrofitted to existing bird scarers, thus saving a whole new purchase and enhancing current equipment.

A really simple but incredibly useful concept: plug the appliance power node into an electrical socket and then plug your appliance into the node. It not only monitors energy use but can also switch appliances on and off remotely. This node works with anything that plugs into the mains and needs to be monitored or controlled. High Power Asset Control

Much like the DINrail power node, the high power asset control can switch appliances and systems on and off, but also monitors energy usage. However, this handles more power so is suitable for more heavyduty items. A great example is an immersion heater –you can control this remotely (for example, setting the hot water to come on when you’re on your way home from a cold football match), and it’s also really useful to see how much energy you’re using and when to switch it off.

Three-Phase Monitor

Industrial properties and farms are supplied with electricity via three-phase mains, basically three lots of 240v and 415v in between phases. Our monitor keeps an eye on these industrial supplies, and can be used to look at the health of a data server rack, or to assess how much power a large industrial motor is using. In our example opposite, if a motor pumps water around an irrigation system, the 4-20mA input sensor (p42) monitors the water pressure and the three-phase monitor looks at the health of the pump. Our enCore API brings together all the data for simple visualisation.

Digital Output

A single-channel digital output consists of an enTalk enabled relay contact for low voltage applications. This enAct module could then trigger an alarm, turn on a power switch or activate a solenoid to open a gate, door or lighting circuit.

Using the enCore API to visualise the data from a temperature sensor or light sensor, the enCore platform could operate ventilation, warning beacons or even turn on lighting circuits.

RGB LED Driver

This interface features strips of LEDs, which can be changed (pixel by pixel) dynamically. For example, a corporate sign under a reception desk could make use of the RGB LED interface. In the scenario opposite, lighting strips down the side of corridors in a workplace would be green, unless the fire alarm was triggered, then workers could chase a green strip towards the nearest safe exit.

The off-grid power management unit enables three phase mains supplies to be monitored and controlled. This unit can be customised into different form factors including 19” rack based products for monitoring server cabinet health and UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) status. Lower power versions are available which support single and three-phase mains supplies. The built in power monitor can report mains voltage, mains current, power factor, line frequency and internal temperature. This unit also has support for connecting to UPS via SNMP protocol.

MODBUS Adapter

A standard MODBUS gateway is 150mm high, but we’ve come up with a tiny version that can sit in the palm of your hand, making it much easier to install. It’s easy to integrate with third-party pieces of equipment (meaning you don’t have to make unnecessary new purchases). Standard support for multiple MODBUS devices from one adapter is possible. Small design enables simple installation by off-the-shelf electrical fittings. Our enCore API provides straightforward visualisation of data received, facilitating decision-making.

CAMBUS/ISOBUS Interface

Modern vehicles are equipped with either a CAMBUS or an ISOBUS. By collating the information from the engine control unit (ECU) such as fuel level, speed, throttle position and engine temperature using our interface and enCore API, this data can then be viewed centrally and used to make cost-dependent decisions.

Adding further sensors could also send back data about the environment and temperature, and a second ISOBUS interface could monitor whether a trailer is overloaded.

It doesn’t matter who manufactured your discharge lamp; our entelli-Ballast™ can power all 26-150W discharge lamps, as used in street lighting for years. It’s global, too, as it supports mains supply from 100265V (AC or DC). Our Ultra Soft Start Technology™ also extends lamp life by between two and three times expected levels, and measures energy consumption to EU standards. On the opposite page you’ll see how the entelli-Ballast™ can power a lighting network that in turn can monitor the urban or rural environment around it.

This is the LED version of our entelli-Ballast™ and enables users to dim indoor or outdoor lighting. It could be used outside in response to a change in the skies, or in an office environment to react to outdoor conditions. Our enCore API allows efficient integration between your existing monitors and sensors, whether enLight or third-party products. The API is the heart of the system, creating logic that allows devices to talk to each other and facilitates the visualisation of key data via the enCore dashboard. Creating logic can tailor each system to do exactly what you require. For example, you could create a security system: when a human is detected outside the front door (using a temperature sensor), a light comes on and you are sent an email saying there’s someone outside your office.
