Welcome to SK Bramhall & Woodford Welcome to the November / December issue of SK Bramhall & Woodford. Well as the dark morning and even darker nights start coming in there is a real feel that winter is on its way. This issue reflects that from the fireworks on the front cover to the festive articles inside. Our Events Spotlight has two great local events highlighted with two superstars involved. First, it’s superstar comedian Jason Manford who will be making a cameo appearance on the day. Secondly, it’s SANTA on his Christmas village tour. For full details go to page 20. We have our usual pages of events and activities in and around the area, to help get you out and about within the community. Grab yourself a mince pie (too early?) and a brew and enjoy the read. All the best

GET YOUR HOUSE CHRISTMAS READY

hristmas always comes round quicker than we think. It’s the 25th.. every year, but it often catches us out and we’re shopping last minute for presents or food, making cute mince pies (or buying them), and if you’re having visitors at Christmas and you’re anything like me, you start panicking about those corners that the vacuum can’t reach or the tops of the windows (no tops of windows get done very often when you’re 5’3”). None of this will be noticed if your house has the Christmas wow factor. First thing’s first, declutter. If that means the loft swallows up anything you won’t need until mid January, go for it. Then, decide on your style. If you’re a traditionalist your home will be reds and greens, warm, maximalist and homely. Add baubles to a garland along with red ribbon bows and a little person’s Christmas decoration they made at school, it will be adorable and they’ll be so proud. Lanterns look fabulous with this scheme, you can use battery candles for safety or fairy lights. Embracing the Danish concept of Hygge (pronounced Hoo-guh) is all about bringing an extraordinary level of cosiness, warmth and joy into your home, learning about what little things make you content. Warm throws, amber lights, cosy

rugs, connecting with nature are all ways to enjoy this tactile style. Knitted stockings, sheepskin (or faux) cushions, natural decorations look beautiful together. Get involved and collect twigs, fir branches, pine cones, berries and holly, tie together with white wool and have this on your Christmas dinner table. Minimalism at Christmas can be done. If you really can’t do with the clutter of the decorations, group some together in a few areas of the home. Go for simple colours, oversized items, a candle or fairy lights to set it off and there’s your Christmas! However you choose to style your home, have fun and I hope you enjoy this fabulous time of year. Let me know if I can help at all, Sharon.
