The 50,000-square-foot, three-story museum uses recycled theme as main design considerations. It is a series of transparent, flexible spaces that visibly expose thebuilding’s construction and design. The Children’s Museum provides learning and exploration spaces based on innovative fine art rather than designed educational exhibits, thus the building has more the feel of an artist’s loft.

The folded, chamfered, canted and faceted façade operates with respect to embody the dynamic character of a contemporary Student Union and is tailored in response to specific lines of sight along approaching vistas and from street corner perspectives. Designed by O’Donnell+Tuomey Architects, the building provided a starting point for an unconventional arrangement of irregular floor plates, each one particular to its function and each working into the next by an intricate system of trapezoidal spatial configuration.

The buiding presents itself as a form that is both independent and in continuity with pre-existing logic. The facades are glazed on the same patern as the one on the existing building. The glass metal skin, composed of ten types of panels perforated with circular holes of differrent sizes, gives the facades complex and variable depth. The holes also filter daylight and reflexions through the glass surface creating shimmering effects that give the building an impression of constant change.

In an area of 142,000 ft2, the school has a gymnasium and a mix of traditional classrooms and open learning spaces for students to work project collaboratively. The community center has a second gymnasium with joist 96 ft. (29 m) long, community space and artificial -turf football-size sport field. This LEED-Gold certified building has a structural support of steel frame built by Canam services, where in this case it provides joists, bridging and steel deck
