PROJECTS/TASKS Project 1: Evolve Mall
Fig 1: The entrance of Evolve Mall
• Location: Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya • Status: Final stage of construction • Skills learnt: Contract Documentation
On the first week of internship, I have been appointed to follow my senior, Adele to Evolve Mall and learn how project management works. During the time, there are many defects and requirements that need to be amended in the mall. Thus, my first task was to sketch out solutions for the areas that need attention.
Â
During my time being in project management, I was lucky enough to be involved in the site meeting on the 11th January of 2016 regarding the process of construction in the mall.
Fig 2: Example of solution proposed in sketches
Fig 3: Final solution approved drawn in sketches
Â
After that, I get to handle lists on different categories such as defects, outstanding and enhancements that I observed on site. After checking on the mall, I gather the information and reorganized them into different checklists to be sent to respective parties to either fixed the defects or making it better.
Fig 4: List of defects discovered on site
Later on, I aided another of my senior, Yoong in drawing out proper drawings of the sticker placement on demising pier and bulkhead for the contractors’ better understanding. In this case, I have used Adobe Illustrator to align the sticker accordingly as these graphics are going to be printed out and stick on the demising pier and bulkhead on site

Furthermore, I was assigned to design the direction stickers that will be paste on the columns for visitors in the mall to understand the location of important places, such as concierge, washroom, ATM and other more.

Not only was I involved with tasks within the mall, I was to assist me seniors in proposing an exterior signage to be place outside so that passerby will notice the new constructed mall and attract more visitors.

Project 2: Cheras Service Apartment
Fig 13: Initial plan
• Location: Cheras, Kuala Lumpur • Status: First stage, Design approved • Skills learnt: Schematic Design
When I was done with my tasks in Evolve mall, I was later on followed under the guidance of another senior, Hoi Yee to design and cad out the plan of the service apartment. On each floor, the apartment consists of 4 types of units: Unit 1A, Unit 1B, Unit 2A, and Unit 2B. Each of the units have their own benefits and obstacles in designing as to enhance their advantages and following the requirements by the authorities.
Fig 14: Progressing plan
Project 3: Dark & Twisted • Location: Shoplot in Evolve Mall • Status: Designing stage • Skills learnt: Schematic Design, Contract Documentation
In this project, I got the chance to be exposed into the interior designing field. Under the aid of the interior designer, Tessa, in the office, I have learnt more details stuff focusing on furniture in comparison to larger buildings. The project was being passed on to me to complete the photoshop of restaurant’s front perspective. This is to let the contractors have a deeper image of how will we want the restaurant to look like.

When I have completed the Photoshop stage, I was then in charge of the details part of the restaurant whereas another colleague of mine, Jacquelyn, who is also an intern will be working in plan and elevation.

After I have completed the partition wall and the logo, I continue to work on the door and material schedule of the restaurant. This is somewhat similar to what I have learnt during the short semester (Measure Drawing) last year.

Project 4: F.O.S • Location: Evolve Mall • Status: Proposed stage; Design presented • Skills learnt: Schematic Design During the period of rushing the door schedule for Dark & Twisted, we were suddenly assigned to complete the backdrop and chandelier design for F.O.S. The three interns, Crystallina, Jacquelyn and I were all in charge of different brands under F.O.S. I was given the brand named Damsel & Republic who the target customers are youngsters age from teens to young adults. As the main customers are on the average age of below 25, I have come out with a more vibrant design using striking but bold colours. Integrating with the core idea of the brand of being playful and young, I added the element of chic to make it more modern looking yet unique at the same time.

CONCLUSION After two months of doing my internship in Arkitek Ari Methi, I realized I have gained more than I expected no matter in soft or hard skills. I have learnt from my supervisor may little details that need to be attended, like the theory of corners, edges and surfaces. These are the things that I have never take notice of when visiting a site and observing the entire flaw within construction. Besides that, I have also learned to get used to the working lifestyle of an architecture firm. It has many fields in a company, from department that in charge of schematic design, and department that is responsible of contact authorities. Each of them has their own responsibilities and deadline to be meet. In this company that I interned in, all the staffs will work together and help one another to meet the requirement. It taught me that being a good teammate is very important because team work is crucial in finishing a big project that is meeting its due date. Lastly, I have grown to like the responsibility of being in project management team. I have witnessed how my supervisor discussing problems with the clients and contractors, and also how my senior settle on-site construction matters with the subcontractors and workers in order to make sure everything is done on time.
