Martina Navratilova once said’ the difference between commitment and involvement is like ham and eggs, the chicken is involved, the pig is committed. When starting a business while employed, it is easy to say you are committed and then lapses due to tiredness or as the novelty wears off. There is an art to being flexible and committed as an entrepreneur while still employed. You hear ‘You need to be all in’. Being all in as an entrepreneur has a different meaning to all. For me being all in as an entrepreneur is being able to commit and persist by taking daily action. It is working through challenges and obstacles while building a business from past and current experiences based on a self-defined vision. It is possible to be a committed entrepreneur while still employed if you have time and are willing to find the time that committed business owners need.
A few of the characteristics to be a flexible and committed entrepreneur are; Seek people to collaborate with and find a business mentor. Don’t go it alone. Business owners, online entrepreneurs need to part of communities and seek mentorship.

I remember when I had my cleaning franchise I found a mentor to help guide me with financial planning. This was for me a great move as it guided pricing based on static and flexible budgets. If I was learning this knowledge without guidance it would have taken a much longer time to set pricing based on costs and the business may have run at a loss due to my lack of understanding at that time. Work unpredictable hours. Most entrepreneur hours are not standard nine to five. Hours are long during startup phrase and if working around a current job, time with family, friends and social engagements are often sacrificed. Bearing the sacrifices, it is still important to be working for the future and be present. Having a day job and starting a business takes commitment and business owners do not tend to watch the clock. They have longer days and are often thinking about the business, as the mind does not sleep. Time is needed and sometimes when balancing both a job and business the same time each day is not available. Fit tasks in around current schedule. It is not black and white as an entrepreneur. Days are not scheduled to just flow. Many activities will take place at random times throughout the day. Just because you work after hours only does not mean the phone call you need to make does. If you work during the day, the call coming from overseas may be after what you call your work day. Committed and flexible entrepreneurs have a flexible workday. Grateful for opportunities. Entrepreneurs are grateful for opportunities. They are positive and happy to try different approaches and tasks. Failure is a learning experience. Failure is a step forward towards the vision. Not looking at retirement. Entrepreneurs are not looking at retirement as every day is a blessing, living the life they want by sharing their passion and vision and helping others develop the skills to be a flexible and committed entrepreneur.
‘Stay committed to your decisions but flexible in your approach’ – Tony Robbins If you have committed yourself to something or like me committed to taking control of your life, remind yourself of your commitment and your why as you face obstacles as this will help you dig deep and move closer to your goal.
