DIOCESAN MISSION PRAYER
ANGLICAN AID PRAYER
Almighty God,
Heavenly Father,
We call upon you for such an outpouring of your Holy Spirit upon us that we as your people may be assured of your love through your word, seek to please the Saviour in all things, manifest the godly life and be filled with prayerful and sacrificial compassion for the lost in all the world.
Whose will it is that all people be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth, and whose will it is that we care for the poor, needy, widows, orphans and refugees.
In the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen COVER PHOTO: The little girl on our cover is from Akule Refugee camp in Ethiopia. The photo was taken on April 6, 2014. At the time the camp was less than 3 weeks old and already housed 23,000 people. Akule now houses 45,000. (Photo: Dr Wendy LeMarquand)
We pray for the work of the Archbishop of Sydney’s Anglican Aid. We pray for the grace to fulfil every good work that you have prepared beforehand for us to do as we anticipate the triumphant return of our King and Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray, Amen
FROM THE ARCHBISHOP Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Our Risen Lord has given us his commission to make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that Jesus has commanded (Matthew 28:19-20). The making and maturing of disciples is our great mission.
My wife, Dianne, and I are thankful for your ongoing and sustained prayerful support as I seek to encourage the ministers of our Diocese in their task of proclaiming Jesus so that people might become his disciples and grow in the obedience that comes from faith.
Our ministry work is underpinned by our knowledge of God’s compassion for the afflicted and the needy and his desire that all should come to a knowledge of the truth. The local church whether it be the parish church, the school chapel, the retirement village congregation, or the chapel services held in hospitals and prisons – is the front line of mission.
I trust the diary will inform your prayers, and encourage you in the support of the work that is carried out through the partnership of our diocesan organisations which by God’s grace will enable us to see Christ honoured as Lord and Saviour in every community.
This prayer diary is an opportunity to pray regularly and thoughtfully for those engaged in the Lord’s service, both locally and further afield, to assist and nurture the afflicted and underprivileged. Giving practical assistance and yet at the same time pointing them towards the comfort and eternal salvation to be found in Jesus Christ. Each day as you pray, I trust you will not only be informed but you will also be encouraged as you learn about the various ministries being supported and bringing change to lives. Your support – prayerful and financial – means we are seeing marginalised people and their communities growing in their capacity to meet their own needs and therefore making greater strides towards self-sustainability. It is an exciting and lifechanging work.
Thank you again for your commitment, and may God bless you in the year ahead.
Grace and peace,
Glenn Davies Archbishop of Sydney
The progress achieved over the past year has been made possible by the commitment shown by you, our faithful supporters, to the wide-ranging work undertaken. The Overseas Development work is lifting communities out of poverty and increasing their capacity to provide for the needs of families and the most vulnerable in their communities. It is working with some of the poorest people in the world providing medical care, emergency aid and opportunities to escape the desperation of extreme poverty. The Community Care work partners with local parishes to enable them to reach out and meet the needs of those within their community. 2015 PRAYER DIARY
Overseas Ministry is providing ministry training for leaders in gospel work and providing educational resources for Bible teaching in the Global South.

DAY 2 - SYDNEY ANGLICAN MINISTRY
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.”

Bible Reflection
How often have we prayed this prayer? This is the prayer that opens each sitting of the Australian Federal Parliament. This is the prayer that we pray each Sunday and during the week. This is the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples. We are invited to speak to God as our Father in heaven. Jesus invites us to speak to his father as our father. Praise Father, Son and Holy Spirit for the sheer wonder of this! ·· Let us rejoice in our salvation and adoption into God’s family through Jesus’ death and resurrection. ·· We are to pray that the name of the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ will be honoured and glorified in our life, our country (our politicians pray this) and throughout the world. ·· We pray for the coming of God’s kingdom, for King Jesus to reign in human hearts, for kingdom values to reign in human societies, for the king to return and judge the world and for justice to be established in a new, perfect and righteous universe. ·· We pray for the Father’s will to be joyfully welcomed and surrendered to, on earth as it is in heaven. ·· As we pray for Anglican Aid partners throughout the world, let us pray for grace, for them and for us, that together we would be the agents of that grace and answers to the prayers we pray.

FOR PARDON ·· At the heart of the Lord’s Prayer is a prayer for forgiveness because in the very depths of our Father’s heart is the call for this gospel of repentance for the forgiveness of sins to be proclaimed. ·· And those who know what it is to be forgiven the greatest sin will speedily forgive others of much lesser wrongs! FOR PROTECTION ·· Our Father is the one to whom we pray for protection for the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking to defame God’s name, demonise God’s people, destroy Christian faith and devour our assurance and hope in Christ, often through the death of a thousand ‘theological qualifications’.
2015 PRAYER DIARY
·· As we pray for physical provision, let us pray even more for spiritual protection, for ourselves and our brothers and sisters in other parts of the world.

In 2015 COACH, Anglican Aid, the Berkeley Anglican Church (with other local churches) and the Wollongong region are collaborating to introduce the COACH mentoring program to train Christian volunteers in the Wollongong Region. ·· Please pray for the training days to be held at Berkeley in the early part of 2015 and for many people to participate. ·· Please pray that the Lord Jesus will use both the expertise of the trainers and the ministry mindedness of the volunteers to raise up a team of people who can provide friendship and wise counsel to help build better life skills for people in their communities. 2015 PRAYER DIARY 25

I love it when I talk to people across the diocese, and even in other parts of Australia, and they tell me that they have been praying through the Anglican Aid Prayer Diary. It is a great encouragement to me to keep praying and using the Prayer Diary to pray specifically for our brothers and sisters in Christ serving communities in great need throughout the world. In 2013 we took on an extreme challenge and rode 2,500 km in 25 days to smash the cycles of poverty that cripple communities throughout the world. In 2014 we surfed 100 beaches in 10 days to break the waves of poverty that engulf those same communities. This year (2015) we are going to shift our focus to a different form of poverty. Through our Overseas Ministry Fund we provide bursaries to enable future leaders and those already pastoring congregations to undertake theological education at a level appropriate to the education they have received. Many pastors across Africa have received no formal Bible training and we want to change that. Both Old (Moses) and New (Jesus) Testaments teach that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. African and Asian churches need the Bible. Their pastors and future pastors need what we have been graced with in abundance. They need the opportunity to study God’s word. The Flawless Bible Tour (see Proverbs 30:5) in April 2015 will highlight the gracious legacy we have enjoyed, the need to share this with others and how we may do that in a strategic and servant-like manner. With a small team of Anglican Aid volunteers and any local people who are willing, I will attempt to read the Bible in every parish in the Diocese of Sydney over the course of the month of April. We will, of course, be rejoicing in the biblical heritage we enjoy as the Bible is read and as we encourage each other to pray and give, to enable Christians across the world to be faithfully taught by their well trained pastors. This is our extreme challenge with a twist. I would love you to be a part of it.
By His grace alone,
David Mansfield CEO
