A motor vehicle is every vehicle operated or driven upon a public highway, which is propelled by any power other than muscular power with very few exceptions outside of handicapped devices. The New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law states, “No motor vehicle shall be operated or driven upon public highways of this state without first being registered.” If you or someone you know operates a gas or electrically powered limited use motorcycle, low speed vehicle, scooter, golf cart, goped (motorized skateboard), or cycle, the operator may be subject to charges under law and impoundment of said vehicle. We are asking everyone to be aware of these requirements, which include proper licensing in the operation of such vehicles, and will result in impoundment if operated on public highways. In addition, many of these operators are below the licensing age for operating vehicles on public highways, which could result, in addition to impoundment, to charges against parents or guardians for permitting improper use. In addition to these legal requirements, many of these vehicles are unsafe when operated upon public highways. §193-31. Use of motor vehicles on any beach. (Evans Town Code) A. The use of any motor vehicle on any beach in the Town is prohibited. B. The term “motor vehicle” as used in this subsection is defined as any automobile, motorcycle, motor scooter, minibike, motorbike or any transportation device equipped with an internal-combustion engine or electric motor, except a powered invalid chair, any vehicle used to launch and recover boats or clean the beach or construction and utility vehicles that may be used to do necessary work on the beach. Erie 2 BOCES Carrier Educational Center Holds 2016 Senior Recognition Program Area high school students complete career and technical education programs

On June 9, the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES Carrier Educational Center held a ceremony at Angola High School recognizing over 200 senior students for successfully completing two years of study in Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs. All students received certificates from their respective programs, and special recognition was given to those receiving additional honors and awards. “Congratulations to the Carrier Center class of 2016,” said Brandon Wojcik, former principal at the Carrer Center. “Your accomplishments these past two years have shown how hard work and dedication pays off. Your teachers have helped you build a strong foundation and are prepared for success in the real world. Good luck to you all.” Wojcik acknowledged the teachers and parents in the audience before introducing special guest speaker, former Buffalo Sabre Patrick Kaleta. An Angola native, Kaleta started the non-profit Helping Individuals to Smile (HITS) Foundation, which provides support for underprivileged children and adults, promised not to deliver “a long and boring speech,” eliciting laughs from the audience. He then discussed his youth, his path to the National Hockey League, and the physical and mental obstacles he encountered along the way. Cosmetology student Madison Frew (Eden) also addressed her classmates and closed with an inspirational message: “Keep struggling to do your best to get a career doing something you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life. In addition to the certificates, around $500,000 in scholarships were awarded to the student body, many of whom will be attending local, state and out-of-state universities. Others will enter the workforce immediately backed by the skills they acquired at the Carrier Center. Wojcik concluded the ceremony by congratulating the class again and offered some practical, pithy advice: “Learn to have high expectations, but also learn how to fail.” The Carrier Educational Center offers seven two-year CTE programs to high school juniors and seniors providing experience and technical knowledge in specialized fields while earning a Regents Diploma. They also complete three-week internships at local businesses, organizations, and agencies related to their program. Students who complete the requirements of their programs receive a Technical Endorsement on their diplomas and are prepared to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation or pursue advanced levels of study at post-secondary educational institutions. CODE OF THE TOWN OF EVANS, NEW YORK PART II: GENERAL LEGISLATION

Chapter 110, Fire Prevention Article I, General Regulations (Adopted 4-9-1958) § 110-2 Bonfires and outdoor rubbish fires

A. No person shall kindle or maintain any bonfire or rubbish fire or authorize any such fire to be kindled or maintained on the paved portion of any public street, alley or road or on the traveled portion of any private road. B. No person shall kindle or maintain any bonfire or authorize any such fire to be kindled or maintained on any private land unless the bonfire location is not less than 35 feet from any structure and adequate provision is made to prevent fire from spreading and smoke from becoming a nuisance. All bonfires shall be constantly attended by the person starting the same. Such fires shall be completely extinguished when the person attending the same leaves the scene of such fire. No person shall kindle a fire upon the land of another without permission of the owner thereof or his lawfully constituted agent. In addition to laws prohibiting and controlling burning in the Town of Evans, we have many people who suffer from asthma and other respiratory problems. In the Town of Evans, we have town wide garbage pickup which allows each household to place out 8 bags for pickup. Before you start a fire, especially to dispose of waste and refuse, please consider the law and your neighbors. Putting trash out is not only better for our environment, but you may well be helping someone with a medical condition to have a better day. Flossie Field Baseball Station Pictorial Cancel Event

On June 21st, 2016 The Brant-Farnham Historical Society and the Brant Post Office hosted a Pictorial Postmark Event in celebration of the dedication of Brant Town Park’s “Flossie Field”. The Brant Post office had a constant flow of people coming in for the special Pictorial Cancel with a total of 208 cancels issued in just 4 short hours!! A FREE chance to win an engraved “Town of Brant Flossie Field” regulation size baseball bat (donated by Bill and Patty Friend) was available to all those who received the pictorial postmark. The Historical Society also provided FREE Flossie Field Post Cards to any and all - which are still available until supplies run out! Retired Farnham Historians Beverly Wasmund and Jo Battaglia, distributed Flossie Field Baseballs to the first 20 people who visited and received the special postmark. Also in attendance was Rosalee “Tish” Hill, who is the daughter of “Flossie”. “Tish” happily signed a few of the pictorial cancels for those who asked. All who attended and requested the pictorial cancel, were asked to sign the official pictorial cancel book that the Brant Post Office maintains and owns. This book is a historical record of all pictorial cancels, that have been offered through the Brant Post Office. Carrie, Mike and Dave were thrilled to see such activity in what is a normally quiet Brant Post Office. It was a wonderful, fun and busy afternoon! At the May Board Meeting, the Brant Town Board had unanimously voted to name the ball diamond “Flossie Field” in honor of Leah “Flossie” Mirusso. The actual dedication was held at the Brant Summer Festival in the Brant Town Park on June 18th. The winner of the baseball bat was Jen Hill, whose name was pulled by Carrie McDonough; the PMC at Brant NY. The Pictorial Postmark was designed by Angola, NY Native, Christian LoGrasso and is available for mail in requests until July 20th, 2016! There is still time to get one! Southtowns Catholic School's Most Wanted Rocks!

Students in Miss Cassi Johnson's Grade 3 class had a mystery to solve with rocks. The Rock Files project had students use their best detective skills to catch Southtowns Catholic's Most Wanted Rocks! Magma "The Muscle" Metamorphic, "Ignatious" Igenous, and "Sandy" Sedimentary were the top three suspects that the SCS 3rd graders researched along with creating a story detailing their crime and arrest. 44th Annual Strawberry Festival Held at First Congrecational UCC

The First Congregational United Church of Christ on Main Street in Angola held its 44th Annual Strawberry Festival this year on Thursday, June 16th and Friday, June 17th. We are proud of how the community came together to make this event a success! On both days everyone enjoyed great food that included burgers, hot dogs, sausage, fries including sweet potato fries with honey, and of course ice cream and strawberry shortcake! We had entertainment each day; Thursday we enjoyed watching dancers perform from Suzanne’s School of Dance, and later that day the music from Linda G. of Crash Cadillac. On Friday we enjoyed music by Gary Burdick & Edge of Sundown Band! Many businesses donated to help defray the costs of our event including Connor’s Hot Dog Stand, Super Freeze, Crosby’s, Lake Side Market, Shultz Hardware, National Grid and Tops Markets. We appreciate all the different ways of help from our neighborhood businesses and our Church Families! The Freezer/Meat Raffle during the Strawberry Social was very successful for our congregation.
