DEAR BRANT REPUBLICAN VOTER

Primary day is upon us; hopefully you have had your concerns and issues addressed throughout the campaign. Obviously there are clear differences between my opponent and myself. • I believe in an open and fair administration that follows the laws and procedures that govern us. • I believe it is the fundamental goal of a fiscal conservative to respect taxpayer funds. • I believe that every resident has the right to express their concern and opinion at a board meeting and be treated with respect. • I believe in prioritizing and budgeting funds for the purpose of improving facilities, and then insuring the investment is the best available. • I believe that an administration must maintain safety and services to each community in town at a responsible cost to tax payers. • I believe that an administration must respect all community organizations as these are the groups that enhance our quality of life. • I believe that an administration should explore opportunities that would encourage business investments and job creation within our township. I am confident my successful business training and experience will be a vital asset to the position of Supervisor. I am confident I have the fundamental qualities that will help me in the administration of our town’s affairs. I hope you share these beliefs and support me on September 10th. Let’s leave politics at the polls and let’s get down to the business of successful management of the Town of Brant. Respectfully, Your Endorsed Republican Candidate. WHY WOULD THE MAYOR OF LACKAWANNA ENDORSE LEN PERO FOR SUPERVISOR OF BRANT? When I was new in my position as mayor, I walked into a situation that needed a lot of attention. I first met Len at the Association of Erie County Governments, a group of supervisors and mayors that meet monthly and try to iron out concerns with our region. I was surprised at just how much Len knew and how passionate he was towards every leader’s problems. He had the knowledge to help guide me through some of our most difficult situations and he has the passion to continue to fight for Brant by standing up to New York State and County of Erie time and time again. Len is involved in over 20 municipal, county, and state committees and all these committees adds to his knowledge on how to solve the tough problems. This ‘know-how’ is what residents expect from their supervisor, and that is why things are getting done in the Town of Brant. Another reason why I support Supervisor Pero is for the Town of Brant’s sake. His deep knowledge of how to get projects done has shown throughout his administration. His accomplishments are vast and Brant is now a better community for Len’s efforts, which is all citizens want when they place faith in an elected official to get the job done. From solar panels to new sidewalks, senior center renovations to the town park renovation project and a whole lot more in many different directions. Supervisor Len Pero has accomplished a wide range of projects for the residents of Brant and he’s not finished yet. Brant is a beautiful community and Lenny Pero has been the spearhead of these accomplishments and more goals lie ahead. Len Pero deserves another term as the Town of Brant’s Supervisor, he has too much knowledge and know-how to gamble with anyone else. Geoffrey M. Szymanski Mayor ~ City of Lackawanna

RE-ELECT SUPERVISOR LEN PERO I have known Supervisor Lenny Pero for over eight years. As the former Supervisor of Colden we worked on a number of projects and were on many committees together that benefitted both of our Towns. In 2011 and 2012 Supervisor Pero did something that was unprecedented in the Association of Erie County Governments – He served two terms as our President. During his tenure the Association held the first joint meeting with Niagara County Legislators along with Niagara Town & Village Officials and because of that the Association has worked on many joint resolutions that have been sent to State and County Representatives. He also opened the door for our Association to have representatives at the Erie County Legislature meetings - giving us a greater voice on County issues, including the controversial rodent and larvicide topic and the hotly contested redistricting fiasco that brought a more favorable closure to that issue. Lenny has worked across both aisles to bring about what is important for the residents of both Brant and the constituents of Erie County. He has been a strong voice that you can be proud of. The people of Brant should be honored to have him serve you – knowing that he has put his heart and soul into working for Brant and is a strong voice throughout the State of New York and County of Erie. Marilynn Calhoun-Allen Executive Director of the Assoc. of Erie County Governments & Retired Supervisor of the Town of Colden

BRANT/FARNHAM RESIDENTS

I have been involved in government for over 50 years in various capacities of which are too numerous to list. People that I have known and worked with know my motives are honest and selfless. The accusations made by a small group of committeemen in regards to the Republican endorsement of Don Clark are pure fiction and nothing more. The actions the committee took to pass over the current supervisor were based on both public and nonpublic information and WERE NOT TAKEN LIGHTLY. We felt, and still feel, that this was the only prudent action we could take based on this information. I know Don Clark to be an honest and forthright man and the clear choice for our next supervisor. If you have heard differently, I challenge you to speak with Don directly and judge for yourself. In closing, I now ask Republicans to stand with us for the future of Brant and cast your vote for Don Clark on September 10th. Paid for by Beverly (Bev) Wasmund Republican Committeeman Town of Brant

The Evans Force 12U Girls softball team played in their last 2 tournaments of 2013. First they played in the Eden Tournament going 2 and 2. They started with a win against North Collins 7-6. The Force was a patient group as they were walked 10 times and used their baserunning skills to score on 5 passed balls. Evie Butlak got the Force’s only hit and Maddy Tempski got 2 RBI on a fielder’s choice. Evie also pitched a complete game with a scoreless last inning and a great defensive play on a bunt. Next the Force took on the D5 Dazzlers winning 6-4 behind the 7 inning complete game pitching by Camryn Adimey. Despite 7 walks, Camryn battled the Dazzlers allowing only 4 runs, 3 hits and striking out 7. Evie Butlak went 3 for 4 with a double, Errika Gonzalez went 2 for 3 and Emma Kist went 2 for 3 with a triple and 2 runs scored. The final two games of the tournament were against the Chautauqua Thunder. In the first game, Evie Butlak pitched a solid game allowing only 6 hits and only walking 3 but unfortunely the Thunder managed to string those hits together and gain a 6-2 victory. After 3 hits in the first by Emma Kist, Maddy Tempski and Camryn Adimey, the Force managed only 1 hit by Emma Kist the rest of the way. Thunder pitching faced the minimum number of batters in the last 6 innings (18). The Thunder took care of the next game easily scoring in every inning en route to a 12-4 victory. Camryn Adimey went 2 for 2 with a double and RBI. Caitlin Burbige scored twice as Maddy Tempski and Grace Barker getting the Force’s only other hits. Grace had 3 RBI. The next week the Force traveled to Amherst for the Mel Ott tournament. The first game the Force welcomed Ruby Thomas back to the mound as she no hit the D5 Dazzlers en route to a 4-2 win. The Dazzlers scored their 2 runs on a pair of walks and a Force error. Ruby only walked 4 and stuckout 14 batters and was voted team MVP for the game. Ruby went 2 for 2 at the plate and 1 RBI and Maddy Tempski got 3 RBI for the entire offensive needed. Next the Force beat Niagara Wheatfield Nitro 5-1. Again Ruby Thomas was great as she allowed only 5 hits, 1 walk and struckout 9. The hitting stars were Maddy Tempski going 3 for 3, Grace Barker 2 for 3 and Evie Butlak, Emma Kist, Ruby Thomas and Errika Gonzalez each adding hits. Newcomer Junior Miarona got game MVP for 3 great catches in left field. The Force then faced some great pitching as Clarence Red Devils allowed no hits and only 1 walk en route to a 9-0 lost for the Force. Maddy Tempski was team MVP for stellar play behind the plate. Sunday the Force started with one of the best games played defensively by both teams. The Force battled to a 2-0 win verus the Brampton Blazers. Emma Kist and Maddy Tempski got the Force’s only hits but Ruby Thomas’ 2 walks resulted in their only 2 runs. The last run was an aggressive steal of home. Ruby was her usual stellar self as she allowed only 4 hits and 1 walk. But the Force’s defensive repaid Ruby after a poor performance against

EVANS FORCE FINISHES SEASON WITH 2 STRONG SHOWINGS IN TOURNAMENTS

Clarence with the best game of the year. As Ruby “only” struckout 3, the players helped Ruby earn the shutout. Evie Butlak was named team MVP after playing super shortstop with 7 assisted outs. Ruby Thomas continued her shutout streak as she shutout the rematch with the D5 Dazzlers 5-0. Ruby allowed only 3 hits, 1 walk and struckout 10. The Force only had 3 hits (single by Emma Kist, double by Evie Butlak and triple by Ruby Thomas) but again used their baserunning scoring on 4 passed balls. Ruby scored twice as Emma, Maddy Tempski and Tabitha Allen also scored. Camryn got team MVP with outstanding third base play. The Force reached the semi-finals against the Rochester Rampage. The Force jumped out to a 3-0 lead when the Rampage came back. Trailing 3-1 in the fifth, the Force suffered their worst defensive inning of the playoff rounds. Four errors allowed the Rampage to score 4 and take a 5-3 lead. The Force battled back to get the score to 5-4 but left a runner on third when the last out of the game was made. Ruby Thomas went 3 for 4 and Evie Butlak and Emma Kist got the Force’s only other hits. The Rampage pitching was tough as the Force suffered 14 strikeouts. Ruby pitched well allowing only 3 hits, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. All the runs scored were unearned and Ruby did not have an earned run on Sunday showing her dominating talent. Emma Kist was the team’s MVP with her offensive and great plays in center field. The Force was so close to winning the 16 team tournament as they saw and enjoyed the performance of one of the best area young pitchers. Evans is lucky to have such a talent at pitcher who can hit and play great defensive. Ruby Thomas was the team’s MVP and is a player that most team’s took notice. LEGISLATOR MILLS PRESENTS DONATION TO ANGOLA LIBRARY

Erie County Legislator John J. Mills is pleased to announce that the 2nd annual Angola Library Hot Dog Roast Fundraiser, held July 26, raised $1,131 to support the library’s efforts to provide quality programming to the greater Evans and Angola community. The donation was presented to Library Director Mary Truby on Aug. 30 during a presentation at the library. Also attending the presentation were Village of Angola Trustee Carole Kin, who serves as liaison to the library; Library Board President Jack Kuebler and Library Board Trustee Donna Nagel. “Thanks to the support of the community, the second annual Hot Dog Roast Fundraiser at the Angola Library raised $1,131. We had a great afternoon. I am pleased to announce that Angola set a new record, surpassing last year’s total of $916, and I expect to do even better next year,” said Legislator Mills. “The community really enjoyed the Hot Dog Fundraiser. I received many comments on what an enjoyable family oriented event it was,” said Library Director Truby. Library Board President Kuebler added that the funds will be added to the Library’s Building Fund and will be used to further furnish the library, including the new meeting/program room, as well as support extended hours of operation. Legislator Mills’ Hot Dog Roast Fundraisers have raised nearly $40,000 for the libraries in his district. He purchases the supplies and donates 100 percent of the proceeds. For information on the Hot Dog Roast Fundraisers, or to speak with Legislator Mills, please contact his Legislative Office at 858-8850 or email john.mills@erie.gov. CHAMBER HOLDS SUMMER MIXER

The Evans Brant Chamber of Commerce held the last of their summer mixers on August 21st at South Shore Beach Club. Everyone in attendance was treated to drink specials, food, great conversation, a relaxing time on the patio and a fabulous sunset ! The Chamber invites everyone in the community to their next fall mixer to be held at Desperados Barbecue & Catering, 29 Commercial St, Angola on September 25th from 6-8 PM.

Though summer is brief, the Angola Public Library, as part of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System, packs a lot fun events into a few short months. Contests abound to encourage not only children to read, but their parents as well. “Beach Reads” was this summer’s contest for adults. The rules required them to read a fiction or nonfiction book and submit a brief online review to share with other readers. The more submissions made the better the chance to win the drawing. Angola’s winner of a bag full of nifty beach items was Kathy DeGroat. We hope that there is still enough summer left to enjoy her winnings. TOWN OF BRANT RESIDENTS Supervisor Len Pero started his second Four Year Term with most activity

centered in the Town Park with various additions to phase 2 of the Park thanks to numberous grants obtained by Pero as a result of his many contacts with various county and state activities. Also, Supervisor Pero and the Town Board completed a deal for the Town to purchase the Brant School and convert it into a new Town Hall. This saved the Taxpayers many dollars in taxes, and once again, Supervisor Pero finished the 2013 Budget with another savings in taxes compared to the previous year. Going through records, Pero lowered town taxes in six of the eight years in office as Town Supervisor. This is the best any Town Supervisor has done including my 18 years in Office as Supervisor (19651983). “We need Supervisor Pero to stay in office and he needs your support on Election Day, Nov. 5, 2013.” Let’s continue to move the town forward in the years to come! Please support Brant Town Supervisor Leonard Pero in this year’s election. Thank you - Herman J. Ciminesi
