NOTICE - VILLAGE OF ANGOLA LEAF PICKUP The Village of Angola Department of Public Works will begin picking up leaves as conditions warrant, with the heaviest areas of concentration receiving priority. Please note that weather conditions, unforeseen work or repairs, and the different variety of trees prohibits following any set schedule. We cover 33 lane miles of Village streets. We WILL get to every street, some of them more than others, obviously. The following procedures will help us complete this task in a timely manner. 1. Leaves can only be picked up along the curb as the mulcher can pick up mechanically (3 ft.) 2. Remaining leaves should be raked to the curb for future pickup. 3. Leaf piles with branches, rock, or other debris cannot be picked up due to imminent damage to the machine. If any resident wishes to dispose of leaves in an alternate fashion, remember they can be bagged and put out as part of your 8-bag limit for normal refuse pickup. School News LSC ACADEMY OF BUSINESS & FINANCE WELCOMES NEW STUDENTS

LSC ACADEMY STUDENTS COMPLETE SUMMER INTERNSHIPS

Thirteen Lake Shore Senior High School students enrolled in the Academy of Business & Finance participated in summer internships with businesses in our local community. As part of this three-year national program, the students take classes that prepare them for careers and the work environment. Students create electronic portfolios to showcase their exemplary school work along with resumes and cover letters. The students develop interview skills throughout the program by networking with the Academy Advisory Board Business Partners. This past summer students applied for paid internships made available by Academy Business Partners. Interns were selected by the business partners based on their skill set and interviewing skills. The employers were very impressed with how professional and well prepared the students in the program were. It was a valuable experience for all participants. Interns were employed at: Buczek Enterprises, Claddagh Commission, Eagles Landing, Evans Bank, Flexovit, Key Bank, Lake Shore Federal Credit Union, LS Buildings and Grounds, LS Business Office, Roswell Park and TLC. If you are interested in hosting an intern for the summer of 2013 or to find out more about the program, please contact Marla Schifano, Academy Director at 926-2285 for more information. __________

TEAM PRIDE MAKES CONNECTION BETWEEN SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY

Lake Shore Central Middle School students on Team Pride are on their 10th year creating a community service project that promotes academic achievement, career opportunities, ethical understanding, personal growth, social development, and civic responsibility. Team Pride students began their community service project by attending Cradle Beach Camp on October 19th, which has been in existence since 1888 in serving the needs of disabled and disadvantaged children from Western New York. In an effort to help their community, students rotated through half-hour stations of washing windows, raking leaves, picking up twigs, and team building activities. After attending, Cradle Beach Camp is hopeful that many students on Team Pride became interested in the Pioneer Camper Program, which allows students to volunteer their time in a summer program working with disadvantaged and disabled students. Students on Team Pride hope to return to Cradle Beach Camp in the spring to help the camp re-open for the season and get ready for incoming campers. __________

The fourth annual Lake Shore Senior High School Academy of Business & Finance Induction Ceremony was held on September 26 in the media center. Eighteen new sophomore students and their parents were welcomed to the three-year program by teachers, counselors, administrators and business partners. Guest speakers included Fred Press, National Academy Foundation (NAF) representative; Karen Erickson, Advisory Board Member; Kathy Ballard, Niagara Frontier Industry Education Council (NFIEC) Business Partner; James Przepasniak, Superintendent; and Matthew Brzozowiec, Senior Academy Student. Mr. Press spoke to the students about the National Program and the expectations and requirements for the financial certificate. Matthew, a senior this year, impressed upon the students the positive impact the program had from his own personal experiences and gave some light-hearted advice to sophomores on how to achieve success. Mrs. Erickson spoke to the parents and students about the important role the advisory board members played and Ms. Ballard went over the electronic portfolio and the importance of preparing students for internships and the world of work. __________

SOUTHTOWNS CATHOLIC SCHOOL HELPS CLEAN UP

On Saturday, September 15th, Southtowns Catholic School participated in the 27th annual Great Lakes Beach Sweep. This picture shows a few of our students after they spent 30 minutes and a bunch of valuable teamwork to dig this tire out of the sand. The kids also filled 2 garbage bags! They were part of 800+ volunteers from ages one to ninety that came out to clean our shoreline as part of the International Coastal Cleanup. This grassroots effort is in its 27th year and it is important to note that the Great Lakes Beach Sweep is entirely made up of volunteers. Mrs. Trembath is proud that this she is now teaching a third generation of beach sweep volunteers the importance of keeping our shorelines clean. Pictured here are Max Barney, Zack Barney, Tyler Mancuso, Jacob Barney & Jordan Mancuso __________ LS EAGLES LOSE TO EAST AURORA The Eagles of Lake Shore lost at East Aurora by a score of 7-0 on Thursday, 10/04/12. East Aurora controlled the play through most of the match and now have handed Lake Shore their only two losses of the season to date. Bryce Parker-Norton turned in a strong game for Lake Shore, turning away 18 shots as he was consistently tested. __________

ANGOLA LSC ALUMNI CELEBRATES HOMECOMING

On October 5, 2012, the Angola Lake Shore Alumni Association Board Members celebrated Homecoming Weekend with the Senior High School students. Past president and current board member Shirley Pfalzgraf and Honorary Member Roslyn Chiappone attended the high school pep rally where they presented the Senior Homecoming King and Queen with trophies. The Alumni Association donates the trophies annually. This year Matthew Gruka and Allison Stock were awarded with the titles of Homecoming King and Queen. Later that evening the Alumni board members judged the Homecoming parade floats. A lot of effort and creativity was put into the floats, and the students were proud to be there. The winning floats were: 1st place Freshmen and 2nd place Juniors. Other participants included were Seniors, Sophomores, Cheerleaders, and Band Boosters. After judging, the Alumni Association joined the parade and handed out candy to the viewers. Everyone proceeded to the High School to enjoy the Homecoming game. Board members who attended were: Shirley Pfalzgraf, Richard Jasinski and Joe Chiappone, and, with Honorary members: Ron Pfalzgraf and Roz Chiappone.
