AMERICAN LEGION POST 928 HOSTS HALLOWEEN PARTY

On October 27, The American Legion Post 928 held their annual children’s Halloween party. There were multiple stations with kids activities including cookie making, pumpkin painting, face painting, ornament making, and creating Christmas cards for the veterans. Music was provided by DJ - DMT Sound. If you weren't there you missed the best dance party of the year. Each child got to paint their own pumpkin to take home. They also decorated over 120 ornaments to send with trees from Stokoe Farms to local soldiers overseas. The volunteers included Krista Harms, Janice Alguire, Cheri Hahn, Robin Hahn, Diane Brogcinski, Tina Hirsch, and Margie Pantera. Let’s not forget about Lake Shore High Schooler Lindsey Brogcinski, and Middle schooler’s, Alexis McMurray, Haley Harms, Olivia Pericak, Brie Costello, and Mickey Alvira. The party also included a fun hayride by Wayne Friebis and Rick Boyle. Pictured above is junior Madison Hahn dressed as Cinderella, showing off her ornament before sending it off to a soldier overseas. Contributed By Cheri Hahn __________

MEMBER OF THE MONTH PROGRAM AT THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB

In October the staff at the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Shore was on the lookout for candidates for the Member of the Month program (MOTM). The honor of Member of the Month will be awarded to one female and one male member every month. The members of the month receive a certificate, a Boys and Girls Club of Lake Shore t-shirt, a bulletin board at the Club devoted to telling everyone all about them, and of course an article in the local pennysaver. In order to be considered as a potential Member of the Month, members must embody the character values of the Boys and Girls Club of America which is defined as “the way one behaves when no one is looking”. MOTM candidates should be trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair, caring, and good citizens at the Club. In addition to having positive character values, the MOTM should participate in a variety of the programs offered at the Club such as sports and games, arts and crafts, Power Hour and Project Learn, Cooking Club, Experiment Club, etc. “Choosing the Member of the Month is always difficult”, says Unit Director Andrea Wincenciak. “There are so many members that have good character and participate in a variety of Club programs. I am pleased to say that we have a lot of great kids at our Club.” After debating and discussing, the staff made their decision. The Club is happy to announce the Members of the Month for October: Elizabeth Nau and Drake Connors. Elizabeth is in 6th grade at the Lake Shore Middle School. She is on Team Apollo and her favorite subject is English. This is Elizabeth’s first year at the Club. While Elizabeth is at the Club she works in the Snack Shack and can always be counted on to lend a hand. Elizabeth’s favorite thing about the Club is being able to “hang out with friends.” Elizabeth’s favorite food is macaroni and cheese and she enjoys reading Percy Jackson books. Drake is in Miss Prizel’s 2nd grade class at A.J. Schmidt elementary school. Drake has been involved in the Club since 2012 when he joined our “Peanut Patrol”. As soon as Drake was 7 years old he joined the Club as an official member. Drake’s favorite subject in school is gym. You may be surprised to know that Drake’s favorite food is a Connor’s hamburger. Drake’s favorite thing to do at the Club is play in the gym, lounge, and games room. Also pictured with the Members of the Month is the Club’s Student of the Month, Lindsay Nau. Lindsay was chosen as the Student of the Month for her dedication to her school work, helping others with their homework, and for completing extra Project Learn academic worksheets and activities in the Power Hour room. In the Power Hour room, members earn points for completing their homework and participating in Project Learn activities. Lindsay has earned the most points out of all of the members so far this year. Lindsay is 9 years old and in 5th grade at A. J. Schmidt elementary school. Her teacher is Mr. Adams. Lindsay’s favorite subject is science. After Lindsay completes her school work at the Club she likes to participate in the different games and challenges in the Power Hour room and hanging out her friends. The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Shore is proud to say that they are a positive place for kids and that great futures start here. To see all of the great things that the Club has to offer, schedule a tour today by calling Andrea at 926-2119. Pictured left to right: Lindsay Nau, Elizabeth Nau, and Drake Connors

This year for Halloween, Southtowns Catholic School students in Miss Lori McIntyre's Grade 3 class did something a little different. They were invited to Trick or Treat at South Pointe Senior Apartments in Hamburg. The students went trick or treating throughout the building and when they were finished, they met the residents in the community room where the kids read Halloween books. It was a "treat" for everyone! Pictured: Trinity Kehoe, Giselle Jou & Mr. Robert Hooper Contributed By Southtowns Catholic School __________

593” of hair was collected as students, faculty and staff at Immaculata Academy joined together to donate 10 inches or more of their hair to Locks of Love on October 17th. The non-profit organization collects hair donations to create and provide hairpieces for young people with medical hair loss. Character Club, a campus group associated with The Character Club of Western New York, sponsored the event. Hamburg hair stylists Laura Carestio from Design Salon and Spa, Jennifer Mottola and Alesia Crawford from Donovan & Co., and Jill Green from Jill’s New Beginning Hair set-up shop in the Academy lobby, where the girls donated their hair as their supportive peers encouraged them. There was so much encouragement going on in fact, that in the end 26 students, 1 faculty, and 1 staff member ended up getting cuts, with only 16 students originally signed up. A male teacher also collected donations as he had his entire head shaved. To complete the event, the school body gathered in the auditorium for a donation ceremony, where before pictures were shown and new hairdo reveals were made. Junior Ally Dybala made and sold bracelets to help raise money towards the cause and students, faculty, and staff donated $1 to dress down and wear pink or purple (cancer awareness colors). In the end over $400 was raised along with the hair donations, which goes toward defraying the cost of producing the hairpieces. “It’s such a warm feeling to see everyone come together and participate in so many different ways to help others. It’s on days like these that we know our Franciscan mission is alive and well in the halls of Immaculata Academy,” commented Principal Jill Monaco. SS. PETER & PAUL SCHOOL HAD A SUCCESSFUL RED RIBBON WEEK

SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School, located in the Village of Hamburg, recently concluded Red Ribbon Week. The week began with students taking an oath to remain drug free. The week featured many fun festivities, which included visits from various law enforcement agencies. Students learned about each responsibility the local police, DEA, CIA and FBI have. The school also received a visit from the Erie County Sheriff, where students learned how the agency uses the helicopter for search and rescue missions. Pictured above is the Erie County Sheriff's helicopter as it prepares to take off. Contributed By SS. Peter & Paul Catholic School

THANK YOU

I am so grateful to be elected as your next Town Clerk for the Town of Evans and I would like to thank everyone who has supported and advised me in my bid for Town Clerk. I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the Evans Democratic Committee, who gave me their endorsement, encouragement and guidance. The Evans Conservative Committee, Independence Committee and the Working Families Committee, for their endorsement and to all the Republican voters who signed my petitions, giving me the opportunity to run unopposed, on all party lines. I’d like to thank the staff in the Town Clerks Office, Jonica DiMartino - Town Clerk, Lynn Stoessel, Kim Milks, Judy Dutchess, Toni Pinter and Karen Sullivan for supporting me and giving me the confidence to run for office, John Latimore for being my Campaign Manager, Michelle Parker for being my Treasurer and Tiger Schmittendorf for handling all my marketing. A very special thank you to my children Michael and Jessica and my husband Jack who has been by my side, and has never complained about the countless jobs I have asked him to do. Lastly I would like to thank everyone who supported my fundraiser and have stopped to wish me well on this endeavor. I can’t tell you how much I look forward to being the Town Clerk on January 1st and serving the residents of Evans with fast friendly customer service.

Dear Town of Evans and Eden-North Collins Residents:

The summer is now behind us and as we are getting ready to enjoy a lovely holiday season, the American Legion Post #928 would like to fill you in on what is happening at your local Post. We continue to work hard to help our community. We raise money year round to donate to local organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, Camp Pioneer, our local fire departments and assisting local veterans just to name a few. We now would like to ask you for help so we can continue to make these things possible for our community. As you already know, if you want a great fish fry, you can get it at our Post on Fridays. We have now added a chef to assist us in offering more mouthwatering food for your enjoyment Monday – Friday such as fresh ground specialty blended burgers, chicken sandwiches, mouthwatering steaks and some of the best Italian dishes around. You have to stop by and try our new dinner menu. The reviews have been amazing! Remember, our Post is open to the public. We encourage all of our residents to come and give us a try. We are sure it will be your favorite place to go out to eat. Please also keep our banquet room in mind for all your party needs as well as our drop off catering for your parties. SPECIAL FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER Bring this ad with you Monday – Thursday from 2pm – 8pm for dinner and get ½ OFF ANY APPETIZER. Limit one coupon per order/per table. With Heartfelt Gratitude,

I would like to thank everyone who supported me during the election. I am truly honored that you put your trust and confidence in me to represent you. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful. I met a lot of wonderful people who are truly compassionate about the town we live in. It has encouraged me to become more involved in the community and help in any way I can. A special thank you to my husband, family, and friends for being by my side during this journey. I could not have done it without you. Thank you to the Republican and Independence Party for your support and guidance during the campaign. I would like to congratulate Dennis Feldmann and wish him the best moving this great community forward.

Thank you, Jeanne Macko

Electronics Recycling Notice

Due to changes in the NYS Law pertaining to the collection of select electronic items (C.R.T.s) and the ongoing renegotiation of our contract, the Evans Electronics Recycling Program will be temporarily suspended. This program will resume upon resolution of this issue. In the interim, the Evans Recycling Committee asks that you do not drop off any electronic items at the Electronics Center or place them at the curb as, by law, Allied Waste cannot collect them. Residents are asked to please store items until further notification in the Angola Pennysaver. We thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. The Evans Recycling Committee

(Never known to fail) Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh show me herein you are my mother. Oh Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times). Holy Mary, I place this prayer in your hands (3 times). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days. After 3 days, the request will be granted. This prayer must then be published after the favor is granted. D.
