Community News TASTE OF EVANS IS HUGE SUCCESS

The huge success of the taste of Evans held on July 15th was due in part to the collaborative planning between the Town of Evans and the Evans-Brant Chamber of Commerce. The rain in the morning posed a challenge for the 10 local food vendors and over 20 crafters setting up their stands at the Evans Town Park. By early afternoon, the sun appeared and attendees enjoyed browsing through the various stands including hand-crafted jewelry, face painting, air brushed tattoos, wood carvings, clothing, stained glass articles, mosaic trinkets, hand-made purses, soaps, lotions, pirate paraphernalia, glassware, hand-made blankets, pillows and ceramic creations. The Taste ran from 12-8 with music all day by Lynn White and her family. Additional entertainment included dancers from Miss Suzanne’s Dance Studio under the direction of Jill Barrett as well as the Evans Idol contest organized by Cheri Ruben. Stroh’s Athletic Club provided the beer tent and children enjoyed playing in the bounce houses throughout the day. The Taste of Evans gave participants the opportunity to sample the delicious wares of local food vendors including Tropical Ice, The Taste of Midway, Charlie’s Sugar Waffles, Joey V’s, The American Legion, the Angola Women’s Moose Lodge, Jay’s Hilltop, Desperados, Farnham Volunteer Firemen, and Angola Volunteer Firemen. Two highlights of the day were the Chinese Auction where over 65 donations were made by local businesses and the raffle of a backyard patio entertainment set with grill by the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Shore. The Town of Evans Parks Department insured the day ran smoothly by monitoring the electrical output and the cleanliness of the park the entire day. The health, safety, and security of the attendees was in the good hands and expertise of the Auxiliary Police, the Lake Erie Volunteer Fire Department as well as the Evans Town Police. ________

EVANS DEMOCRATIC CLUB NEWS The pledge to the Flag was led by State Assembly candidate Christina Abt. Abt is a former resident of the Town of Evans who ran a championship horse training operation while living here. She is a past president of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and a founding board member of Vets HERD (Veterans Helping To Empower Returning and Disabled veterans.”) Abt was approached to run for the 147th seat created by the new Assembly redistricting. With roots in Evans, Hamburg, Eden and family in Wyoming County, she is well familiar with the concerns of a largely rural district. She is used to being an advocate, having been a public speaker, marketing director, columnist, and radio commentator. Abt pledges to apply her leadership and communication skills to become an advocate for the small-town and agricultural needs of the new 147th district. Town chair Robert “Bob-cat” Catalino updated the Club on various summer activities, include the Southtowns Democratic picnic held in Evans. “ This was a great event, that showcased the town’s Sturgeon Point Marina which is a real jewel in our community,” noted Catalino. “Reminder: the Evans Democratic Club picnic will be on Sun., August 5. And its official; the primary date is September 13.” If anyone would like to become an Elections Inspector, please contact Bob or go to our website at http://evansdemocratic. org/ for an application. The local Committee did its usual bang-up job on collecting signatures for endorsed candidates, and Catalino thanked everyone for their contributions. Club Corresponding Secretary Dawn Casali is attending to the picnic host and sponsorship opportunities for local elected officials. The Club congratulated Bob-cat on all his contributions to his beloved community over the past 20 “bonus years (and still counting) since his heart attack in 1992. The Club look forward to mixing and meeting elected officials at the picnic on Sun., August 5 at the Evans Town Park. All are welcome; and applications to join the Democratic Club will be available. The next meeting will be held after the picnic, on Tues., August 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the VFW. ________

Call Us Today! 716.992.4362 or 716.570.7349 Serving Delicious Chicken BBQ to WNY Party Tents Since 1961

Available!

Weidner’s BBQ! At Bert Weidner’s, cooking chicken barbecue-style is a way of life. Our family has been barbecuing chicken at local events for more than 45 years. We grill our chicken over an open flame and baste it with our own special-recipe barbecue sauce until it is cooked to perfection--golden brown, juicy, tender, crispy on the outside, and always delicious. In the summer, you’ll find us grilling away at the America’s Fair (formerly the Erie County Fair) and the Chautauqua County Fair. But remember, we can bring our tasty chicken and all the fixin’s right to your fundraiser, corporate event, or private party. Prices are less than you might think, and we will deliver your order free of charge within approximately 5 miles of our Eden, NY kitchens. Please see our delivery zones map for details. Delivery charges outside of our region are still very reasonable and exceptions can be made for large orders.

Contact us today. 716-992-4362 or 716-570-7349 Planning a party? Tent rentals are available--call for details.

“I ordered Weidner’s Chicken for a couple different picnics last summer and everyone raved about how good it was! It really was a hit and I appreciated the reasonable price and the friendly home delivery! I would recommend Weidner’s Chicken to anyone looking for a great barbequed chicken.” Diane P.

Visit us at the Eden Corn Festival August 2,3,4 & 5

“My family and extended family cannot say enough great things about Weidner chicken. We thankfully stumbled upon them many years ago when planning a family gathering for which there was no time to cook, and have been ordering from them ever since. The convenience of having delicious, hot, and ready-to-serve chicken delivered when you need it, takes all of the hassle out of family gatherings, giving you more time to visit. Their chicken is so scrumptious, that we often order extra and freeze it for those days you don’t feel like cooking. The Weidner family customer service is excellent and all of our guests rave about their food – Bon Appetit!” Lisa W.
