PROJECT: KEEP EVANS WARM

The Church of Most Precious Blood and Operation Good Neighbor would like to thank all who contributed to our clothing drive this year. This year’s collection was truly a team effort and a huge success as 484 items of winter clothing was collected. Included in the total were 139 coats, 59 hats, 61 pairs of gloves, 18 scarves, 8 pairs of boots and other miscellaneous items. While most of the donated clothing was previously worn, some of the donated items were purchased new and some were homemade never worn sweaters, hats and scarves. All of the clothing will be made available free of charge to less fortunate residents in the Town of Evans. The success of this year could not have been achieved without the assistance from others and we graciously thank all. Included are Operation Good Neighbor in North Evans who teamed up with us to accept and make the clothing available, Most Precious Blood Church, for the second year in a row the First Church of Evans, the Evans Home Bureau, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the Lake Shore Middle School 7th Grade Class which was organized through their Class Officers and last but not least – all of the many anonymous donors who dropped off clothing or called for pick-ups. We thank you all and wish you all a Joyous and Happy New Year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Brant-Farnham Historical Society! Don’t forget – The Village of Farnham will be celebrating 125 years in 2017!

Kindness of Others Brings Necessities to Families in Need Donations to Warm the Children Assist Hundreds of Youngsters

While TV ads promote the latest toys and electronics of the holiday season, 195 families met volunteer shoppers at Sears in the McKinley Mall to purchase new, warm, winter clothing for their children. Parents, grandparents and foster parents came from Hamburg, Blasdell, Lake View, Angola, Eden, North Collins, Evans, Derby and Brant. When they left Sears, their youngsters had items like jackets, coats, boots, pajamas and sweaters to get them through another cold, WNY winter. Over 450 children have been assisted through this year’s Warm the Children program. “I’ve never spent $200 all at one time on clothing for my family!” exclaimed one grateful mother. “The Sears staff was so helpful, kind and nice to the families… in fact the cashier who checked us out was crying as we left, saying that Warm the Children is such a good cause for children in need,” said longtime, volunteer shopper, Janice Hood. Warm the Children is a program led by the Rotary Club of Hamburg, with assistance from the Town of Hamburg Lions Club, Evans Bank and Sears in the McKinley Mall. In its 10th year, Rotary works with school districts, agencies like the Salvation Army and local churches to identify families in need. Warm the Children relies solely on the generosity of community members and local businesses for donations. “100% of all tax-deductible contributions go toward the purchase of new clothing,” emphasizes program coordinator, Elizabeth Angelbeck. First time volunteer shopper, Kathy Wagner, who accompanied several families to Sears sent a heartfelt message to Warm the Children: “The families want to thank you for the amazing program you run! I have to say that I feel so blessed to have been able to watch the donations of others bring such important necessities to our families in need,” said Wagner. If you’d like to participate in Warm the Children, checks may be made payable to Warm the Children Fund and sent to Evans Bank, 5999 S. Park Avenue, Hamburg, New York 14075. Warm the Children was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from Ronald McDonald House Charities. Pictured from left to right: Rotary President, Barbara Stanley, Rotarian, Earl Knauss, Warm the Children coordinator, Elizabeth Angelbeck and Joseph Ferrino, a McDonald’s Operator and member of the Ronald McDonald House Charities Grant Review Committee Contributed by Liz Angelbeck, Warm the Children Coordinator for Rotary Club of Hamburg __________

Most often you will find Jasmine in her favorite room of the Club (Arts & Crafts) working on a number of projects. Away from the Club, Jasmine likes taking dance lessons. At school her favorite teacher is Mr. Fitzgerald and her top subject is art. Her favorite author is Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), and her favorite band is The Chainsmokers.
