Boys & Girls Club Teen Night A Huge Success

Two WNY food industry giants, Goya Foods Great Lakes and Pero Family Farms, have partnered to provide an annual donation of $10,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Shore to help support youth development programs for approximately 400 kids. President of Goya Foods Robert Drago, Chief Executive Officer of Pero Family Farms Peter Pero IV, and members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lake Shore Advisory Council held a special check presentation last Thursday at the Club located on 42 Sunset Blvd., in the Village of Angola to recognize the combined $10,000 contribution. Both representatives were provided a tour of the Club and presented with plaque in appreciation for their generous contribution. The donation was facilitated by Town of Brant Supervisor and founding Advisory Council member Lenny Pero. Revenue to support the Club is derived largely through advisory board membership, member dues, grants, fundraisers, individual and corporate giving. “Two major food companies have come together to ensure that the Lake Shore Boys and Girls Club will be able to meet the needs of children today and well into the future,” said Mr. Pero. “The generous funding from Pero Farms and Goya will enable the Club to continue to offer innovative quality programming for area youth,” said Justin Simet, unit director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lake Shore. “Mr. Drago and Mr. Pero’s support goes far beyond the dollar. Both men have pledged continued support for the Club through various means to make a positive and lasting change for today’s young people who are the future of the community.” Known as “The Positive Place for Kids,” Boys and Girls Clubs provide guidance oriented programs on a daily basis for children 7-18 years old, conducted by a full-time professional staff. The Boys and Girls Club is a positive place that offers a varied and diversified youth development program. Based on physical, emotional, cultural and social needs and interests of boys and girls, trained staff members offer programs in five core program areas: Character and Leadership Development; The Arts; Education and Career Development; Health and Life Skills; and, Sports, Fitness and Recreation. Mitchell Thompson of Angola Made Dean’s List at Alfred State

Mitchell, the son of Bill & Dawn Thompson, has been named to the spring 2015 Dean's List at Alfred State earning a 4.0 GPA. He concludes his freshman year with an overall GPA of 3.91. Mitchell was inducted into Pi Theta Kappa Honor Society in April which is only bestowed upon first semester freshmen who earn a 3.75 or higher. In addition, Mitchell is highly involved in campus life working as an RA, participating in a variety of clubs and serving on various committees/boards. After an arduous interview process, Mitchell was chosen to represent the college over the summer as an orientation leader. He is majoring in Business Administration. Dog Park Grand Opening

On Wednesday, June 17, 2015, Supervisor Keith Dash, Councilman Paul Cooper, Ron Smith, President of LADS Pet Supplies, former Lake Shore student Megan Scritchfield and Parks Crew Chief Patrick Conrad joined the Paw Park Advisory Committee and community members for the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Grand Opening of the Town of Evans Dog Park. The Dog Park, located adjacent to the Town Hall (8787 Erie Road, Evans, NY), provides a place for the four-legged residents of Evans to run free, play and socialize with new friends. The park contain a 150’ x 100’ fenced in area of dedicated green space consisting of two sections, one for small dogs and one for large dogs. The dog park is open daily from dawn to dusk. The Evans dog park would not have been made possible without the generous donation of fencing from LADS Pet Supplies or the tenacity of Lake Shore Business and Finance Academy graduate Megan Scritchfield. Megan took on the project two years ago when she served an internship in the Town of Evans Office of Community Development. Megan, along with the Evans Paw Park Advisory Committee and Evans Parks Department worked tirelessly raising funds and preparing for the park.
