Town of Brant Wall of Fame Inductee: Supervisor Leonard K. Pero and his daughter Amanda West.
Brant Wall of Fame Inductee Supervisor Leonard Pero
The 14th Annual Brant Summer Festival honored the 6th inductee to our Wall of Fame. At the opening ceremony held on Saturday, June 10th, Supervisor Leonard K. Pero was honored for his leadership and dedication to the residents of the Town of Brant. As it is stated in the 2017 Brant summer festival booklet: “Born November 6, 1948 and raised in the Town of Brant, Lenny grew up to serve our Town in several capacities starting back when he was a youngster working on the family farm. He then became part owner of that family farm and also went on to become the proprietor of Pero’s Steak House and Bowling Lanes. In 2002, Leonard’s ambitions led him into community service as Planning Board Chairman and then Town Councilman just two years later. In 2006 Leonard was elected Town of Brant Supervisor where he has served to this day. Leonard’s love and dedication to this community are remarkable and we are proud of his accomplishments as he continues to serve his term as our Town of Brant Supervisor. Today we recognize Leonard’s contributions to our community by honoring him on our wall of fame.” A few of Lenny’s noteworthy accomplishments listed are as follows: brought in over two million dollars in grants and free service money to the Town of Brant during his first two terms in office, created and hosted the First Energy Fair in New York State (2007), with his daughter Amanda, they were the originators and founders of the Brant Summer Festival (2004), and he was instrumental in the purchase of the closed Brant school which was renovated into the New Brant Town Hall (2011). The crowd burst into well deserved applause as Councilman Chad Kaczmarek presented Lenny with a beautiful Wall of Fame plaque. A duplicate plaque will be placed on the Wall of Fame located in the Brant Town Hall. The 14th annual Brant summer festival committee, Councilmen Chad Kaczmarek, Donald Clark, Mark DeCarlo and Michael Muffoletto along with the residents of the Town of Brant are proud of Lenny and his many accomplishments. (Please note that a full listing of his accomplishments can be found in the Brant Summer Festival booklets, available free at the Brant Town Hall.) Following the presentation, Lenny responded with a heart felt speech reiterating his love for the Town of Brant and its residents. He again publically announced that after serving the Town of Brant for the last fifteen years, he has decided to step down as town Supervisor so that he can enjoy his first born granddaughter Avia Mora West. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” Psalm 33:12 Our founding Fathers gave us three documents upon which this great republic was founded: The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and The Bill of Rights. The first was signed by John Hancock on July 4, 1776. These were written upon seven principles they believed in: Principle #1 – The Dignity of Life Principle #2 – The Traditional Monogamous Family Principle #3 – A National Work Ethic Principle #4 – A God-Centered Education Principle #5 – The Abrahamic Covenant – Support Israel Principle #6 – Common Decency Principle #7 – Our Personal Accountability to God A return to these seven principles could save our country from decay.

Tops Friendly Markets Celebrates Grand Opening of Angola Store with Ribbon Cutting
Today, Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in New York, northern Pennsylvania, western Vermont, and north central Massachusetts, held a ribbon cutting celebration for the Grand Opening of its Angola, NY store. The new store, located at 9049 Erie Road, Angola, NY was formerly a Shurfine Grocery Store. “When the opportunity to operate in the Angola community became an option for us, we knew that a Tops Markets would be a perfect fit,” said Frank Curci, Tops’ chairman and CEO. “This store is ideally located, has great potential, and we believe we can offer customers an exceptional shopping experience,” said Frank Curci, chairman and CEO for Tops Friendly Markets. “Angola residents will be able to choose from a larger variety of national and local brand products, while saving time and money.” Significant renovations were made to this 20,600 square foot location including a refreshed interior décor as well as expanded product selection. Throughout the store, shoppers will see expanded refrigerated produce allowing for more variety and convenience, an enhanced in store cut fruit and vegetable program, and much more organic as well as an increased meat and seafood selection. Local residents will be pleased to also find a wide assortment of seasonal items including coolers, ice, charcoal, and firewood perfect for their day at the beach. Delicious marinades for steaks, fixings for summer picnics, and sweet treats to make the ideal camp side S’mores are all in store at the new Angola neighborhood TOPS. “I am very proud, not only of the renovations to the store, but of the dedication and efforts shown by all of our Tops associates," said store manager, Jeff Talarczyk. “We promise to offer our community a wide variety of their favorite products in addition to our new Tops Brand products all at an exceptional value.” Additionally, the Tops philosophy of Neighbors Helping Neighbors took center stage during today’s ribbon cutting where five local organizations each received a $500 Tops gift card; the Angola Volunteer Fire Department, Cradle Beach, Boys & Girls Club of Lake Shore, Most Precious Blood, and Operation Good Neighbor. This is just one of the many ways Tops gives back to the community to say thank you for their service. Contributed by Tops Markets, LLC __________

School staff and administration welcomed family members, friends, members of the Board of Education, alumni, as well as community members to share in the students’ final day as high school seniors. Senior High Principal Christine Koch welcomed the crowd with opening remarks before introducing Superintendent James Przepasniak who addressed the students saying, “I am extremely proud of this group of young adults presented before us today. The curriculum, standards, course requirements, and assessments have they completed over the last 13 years of school have more than adequately prepared them for college or careers.” After Salutatorian Oliva Slotman spoke to the class, Mrs. Roslyn Chiappone and Mrs. Fran Downey from the Lake Shore Alumni Association recognized the following students for individual awards ($750 each): •Alumni Association Achievement Award: Justin Holland and Jordan Scholl •Angola/Lake Shore Central Alumni Association Award: Jonathan DeMaria and Audrey Parks •Ruth Lehning Humanitarian Award: Jared Allen and Sophia Koenig •William T. Hoag Alumni Scholarship: Darcy Paradiso •Alumni Association Outstanding Effort & Initiative Award: Kendra Guenot •Alumni Vocational Award: Christian Kortum and Jasmine Ellis Kevin Schamberger, vice president of the Lake Shore Central Teachers Association also presented the following scholarships ($1,500 each): •Lake Shore Central Teachers' Association Academic Scholarship: Alicia Majkut and Olivia Slotman •Lake Shore Central Teachers' Association Vocational/Technical Scholarship: Tom Jaworski In addition to these accolades, students were celebrated on Senior Scholarship Night earlier in June with over $65,000 in scholarships. In total, the class was offered more than $1.5 million dollars in grants and scholarships. Before the presentation of diplomas, the audience heard remarks from Valedictorian Darcy Paradiso. “If you look back at the time you spent here, you’ll see how you ended up where you are right now,” she said. “I hope you remember all of the memories that have shaped you, because as we walk out of these doors for the last time, they’re going to help guide us.” Senior Class President Sierra Hambly also shared thoughts on graduation saying, “Look around the auditorium and look for the people that help shape you; your friends, family, and teachers, and thank them. Today seems like a goodbye, but they will always be with us in our memories.” . Contributed by Lake SHore CSD ____________
