In Memory of Ingrid I Am An Animal Rescuer
My job is to assist God's creatures. I was born with the need to fulfill their needs I take in new family members without plan, thought, or selection. I have bought dog food with my last dime. I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand. I have hugged someone vicious and afraid. I have fallen in love a thousand times, and I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body. I have Animal Friends and friends who have animal friends. I don't often use the word "pet". I notice those lost at the road side, And my heart aches. I will hand raise a field mouse, And make friends with a vulture. I know of no creature unworthy of my time. I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven, But I believe there are. Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind. We may be master of the animals, But the animals have mastered themselves, Something people still haven't learned. News of War and Abuse makes me hurt for the world, But a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind. We are a quiet but determined army, And we are making a difference every day. There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan, nothing more rewarding than saving a life, No higher recognition than watching them thrive. There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play who only days ago, was too weak to eat. I am an Animal Rescuer My work is never done, My home is never quiet My wallet is always empty But my heart is always full. In the game of life we have already won Annette King Tucker

The classes were greeted by members of Earth Spirit, Mr. Scott, Ms. Carrie and Yukon John. Students were educated on Maple Sugaring. They learned the history of Maple sugaring and how the Native Americans processed the Maple sap into sugar using tools made by nature. The students also played games and listened to a story of how the Native American people discovered Maple Sap and the sweetness is held. Students were shown how Native Americans would tap trees many years ago and how trees are tapped today. The students were invited to taste maple syrup and maple sap. CSEA message to New York State Drivers: "Don't Zone Out"
March 23-27 is National Work Zone Awareness Week. There is no better time to remind motorists about the dangers of distracted driving and driving carefully through work zones. Distracted driving is a serious problem and for CSEA, it's personal. Too many road workers lose their lives or are injured each year. Since recordkeeping began in 1983, nearly 50 CSEA members have lost their lives on the job in highway work zones. These incidents are not only tragic, they are preventable. "In an instant, distracted driving can kill and change lives forever," said CSEA President Danny Donohue. "Keep in mind that most traffic zone deaths and injuries involve the traveling public; so when you pay attention, the life you save may be your own." WHAT THE PUBLIC CAN DO: Move over for amber lights, or police lights. Obey posted speed limits. Put the phone down and drive. Never send or read text messages while driving. In work zones, focus only on your driving. If someone calls you while you're driving, ignore it. Help spread the word. Join the Don't Zone Out Facebook community and help build awareness: www.facebook.com/DontZoneOut. __________
Jump Rope For Heart
The Eden GLP Primary School participated in The Jump Rope For Heart Program. This was the first time the school has participated in this program. This program was sponsored by GLP Physical Education Teachers, Ms. Francisco and Mr. Bernardone. Students were informed about the importance of the heart, how it works and the importance of exercise and keeping their hearts healthy. Many forms of exercise were discussed as well as healthy foods. Also that consuming water and getting enough rest is important to our bodies. Students took part in jump rope skills along with jumping games and activities. Along with being educated on the heart and healthy habits, students were encouraged to raise money to support American Heart Association research. Forty students participated in The Jump Rope For Heart Program and they raised $1,042.00 in donations!!! __________
Master Chong’s Tae Kwon Do Visits Eden GLP
In February, Eden GLP Primary School gym classes were visited by Kevin Cudney of Master Chong’s Tae Kwon Do. Mr. Cudney did 25 minute lessons with students. He went over protocol, rules, and showed the students how to perform Tae Kwon Do punches and kicks. He emphasized that kicks and punches should only be used in a Tae Kwon Do class and not for any other reason. Master Chong’s Tae Kwon Do also offered a five- session character development program that incorporated physical exercise with life skill lessons. This was offered to students grade K-2. All proceeds from this program were donated directly to Eden GLP Primary School and the Physical Education Program. Thank you, Master Chong’s Tae Kwon Do for a great program and for your generous support to our school! __________

VETERAN’S POST By Freddy Groves Summer Sports Clinic
The 2015 Veterans Summer Sports Clinic is coming up soon. According to a Department of Veterans Affairs newsletter, all eligible veterans are being encouraged to sign up and participate. The clinic will be held Sept. 13-18 in San Diego and is for veterans with traumatic brain trauma, poly trauma, loss of limb and spinal-cord injuries. Call it rehab or call it recreation therapy -- lives are changed at these clinics when injured veterans learn new skills that lead to a more active lifestyle. Sports and activities at the clinic will include kayaking and cycling (hand and tandem), track and field, sailing and surfing. Locations
for the events include Mission Bay Yacht Club, U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, La Jolla Shores and others. Even the accommodations sound posh: the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego. The deadline to sign up is May 1, 2015. See www. summersportsclinic.va.gov for more information and the full application packet. (You’ll need a medical exam, so don’t forget that form.) Be sure to get the checklist, because it has to be sent in as well. The webpage also includes videos from previous events, as well as a community-based adaptive sports program directory, broken
down by state and city. If the clinic isn’t for you but you want to participate in other adaptive sports, see the 2015 national events schedule at www.va.gov/ adaptivesports. There are Golden Age games for older veterans, creative arts festivals, TEE (Training-Exposure-Experience) tournaments that include kayaking, horseback riding and other adaptive sports workshops), wheelchair games and valor games. For adaptive sports clubs around the country, including Paralympic sports clubs, see www.va.gov/adaptivesports/va_clubFinder.asp and search by state or ZIP code.

Recommended Spring Services Breathe easier with a new cabin air filter! If you change your air filters at home, have you considered your car’s cabin air filter? Most people don’t think about the filter in your car, but it helps protect those with allergies from airborne particles. It also helps keep the interior of your vehicle clean and fresh. And lastly, it purifies the air in your passenger compartment by filtering pollen, dust and other contaminants. How did your wipers work the last time it rained? Be clear, be safe. Let us check your wiper blades today. Do you say a little prayer before you pass? In a passing situation, you want your engine operating at peak performance. Whether you accelerate smoothly or sputter and strain past that truck depends a lot on a clean fuel system. Ask us about our fast and inexpensive fuel system services. Does your power steering still have that smooth, easy feel? Old and dirty fluid or low fluid levels drain the power and make steering hard! For maximum control and driving safety, your power steering system should be kept clean. Ask us to check the condition of your system today.

DOLLARS AND SENSE BY David Uffington
Summer Camps Are the kids talking about summer camp yet? ItÕs time to start investigating the possibilities and get them signed up. Look into day or sleep-away camps at colleges near you. Look for math, computer and science camps run by older students. Drama majors especially love to introduce theater to kids. The fees for these day camps are typically fairly low. For older kids, combining sleep-away camp with their interests could lead to new career possibilities. Spending a week on a farm could lead an animal lover in the direction of veterinary medicine. A water or ocean-related camp could lead to a career in marine ecology. A week at video camp could open opportunities in television, digital media, advertising and more. When it comes to special interests, no matter what they are, thereÕs a camp for it. If your child wants to get a head start with SAT tests, there are prep camps for that. Photography, rock music songwriting, entrepreneurship, wilderness adventure -- they all have camps. Check www. camppage.com and explore the information in the dropdown menus.
Search through the offerings at www.campresource.com. It has comprehensive listings of sleep-away camps, day camps, co-ed, boys, girls and traditional camps. Use the drop-down menus to search for camp types, activities and locations. For kids who want a new experience, search for camps that emphasize Nashville music, rodeo riding, PGA golf or hockey. Look for teen travel camps that provide tours and camps all over the globe. Language majors can take advantage of language immersion camps and tours, and more. There’s even a roller-coaster camp! It involves visiting amusement parks across the country in one, two, three, four and six-week camps.
For younger children that you want to keep nearby, check the resources around you for traditional camps at recreation departments, the YMCA and churches. TheyÕre sure to provide plenty of summer activities: swimming, boating, archery, sports, arts and crafts, and singing around the campfire. When it comes to choosing a camp, the American Camp Association has must-read information at www.acacamps. org. Look for How to Choose a Camp: Safety Tips. Learn about the difference between accreditation versus licensing, questions to ask camp directors, camper-to-counselor ratios and how the camp handles behavioral and disciplinary problems.

Mitigating Water Leaks Q: I’ve read that ice dams and roof damage can lead to water leaks, but how can I find them? And what can I do if I find a leak? -- Janice L., Portsmouth, N.H. A: If you’ve noticed ice buildup along your eaves outside, it’s a good idea to check inside in those same areas for water leaks. Take a flashlight and go to the part of the house that’s as close as possible to the suspect area. Using the flashlight, check the wall and ceiling for light-brown water spots or streaks. If you see them, a leak likely has been occurring for a few days. Run your hand along the wall and ceiling around the area, whether you see water spots or not (stand on a stepladder, not a chair or furniture). If the drywall or ceiling plaster feels damp, cold or a bit spongy in one spot, a leak may be forming. If you smell mildew or mold in an area, dampness is a problem and may be caused by a leak. Mark this and other potential problem areas with a pencil or blue painter’s tape.
A leak needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Contact a roofing professional to schedule an inspection and get a quote to remove the ice dams and repair the roof, as well as seal up leaks. Before the contractor arrives, start minimizing the water damage indoors. Open up the wall or ceiling a bit to let water flow through freely. In the ceiling, punch a small hole in the center of the damp or water-stained area with a nail, and place a bucket underneath to catch drips. Leaks behind a wall are more complicated: Often a section of drywall needs to

be cut away, as close to the leak source as possible, and a bucket or pan placed beneath the drip. If you have no experience repairing or replacing drywall, enlist an experienced friend or call a contractor to quickly stop further damage until the roof can be repaired. You also may need to contact an electrician to make sure any wiring in a leak-affected area is OK. TIP: To avoid dampness or leaks in the cellar, shovel snow a foot or two away from the foundation when possible.

for your overwhelming support regarding the town vote for the Veterans School tax exemption. The vote results were 370 in favor and 190 against. The proposal was for the maximum exemption. Contrary to this vote, the Eden Central School Board passed a minimal exemption for Veterans. The Veterans of Eden, who when called to serve their country, did so with courage and honor. We ask for your support as we continue our quest for a well-deserved exemption. Gary Haag (992-9738) & John Bauer (725-1094)
