4-H Group Rides to Support Breast Cancer Research
We’ll service your appliance no matter where you purchased It.
All parts and labor guaranteed ** Senior Citizens Always Discounted **
On Sunday October 12th 2014, the Wyndale Wranglers held their 4th annual Pink Ribbon Trail Ride in support of Breast Cancer. We had around 45 people participate in the ride and everyone there was dressed in pink from head to toe, even the horses were pink. There were riders of every age and activities for everyone to do. New this year was the Extreme Obstacle course where people had to work with their horse to get them through the obstacle. After everyone was done riding we had a hot dog lunch and gave away prizes. Megan Barry, Liz Wierzba, and Hailee Glair all received trophies for the Trail Challenge Course, Riley Wierzba was given a prize for being The Youngest Rider and The Farthest Person Traveled was from Tennessee. With the perfect weather for our ride this year’s event was a huge success, allowing us to raise around $800, all of which is being donated to Roswell Park for Breast Cancer Research. Thank you to all of for your support and donations that helped make our ride this year a huge success. -Ashlee Hohman __________

Southtowns Catholic School Shares Saint Lucy's Wheat
Students at Southtowns Catholic School were given wheat to plant for Saint Lucy's Day. The tradition of planting wheat on Saint Lucy's Day (December 13) comes from Hungary, Croatia, and other European nations. If you plant the seeds in a round dish and water them, the seeds will germinate and the shoots will be several inches high by Christmas. The new shoots remind us of the new life that was born in Bethlehem. Pictured: Chad English, Savannah Reynolds, Lily Katra & Braeden Griffin. _________

• It was American industrialist Jean Paul Getty who made the following sage observation: “If you can count your money, you don’t have a billion dollars.” • You’ve doubtless heard the term “bigwig” to refer to a person of importance, but you’ve probably never learned where the word originated. In the 18th century, King Louis XIV of France began wearing large wigs, and the fashion became a trend among the upper classes. At the time, wigs were made from human hair, which was very expensive to obtain; therefore, the larger the wig, the more hair was required and the more money the wearer had to spend to

Gifts for Seniors Who Have Everything Seniors have acquired so much “stuff ” over the years that we have nearly everything we need ... and more. If you’ve held off buying a gift for a senior in your life because you don’t know what to get someone who already has everything, here are a few gift ideas that would be most welcome. • Coupons for cab rides, or gift certificates for restaurant meals, laundry services, auto detailing, spa day or hair salon services. • Gift basket created especially for your seniors, such as gourmet food, cheese, jams or chocolate. Or consider a subscription to a quarterly or monthly gift club. Options range from fruit baskets or flowers to bacon, coffee and cigars. • Pay for a year of cable TV,

The 3/50 Project
Saving the Brick and Mortars our Nation is built on
3 What three independently owned businesses would you miss if they closed? Stop in, say hello and pick up something that brings a smile. Your purchases are what keep those businesses around.
50 If half the employed population spent $50 each month in locally owned independent businesses, it would generate more than $42.6 billion in revenue. Imagine the positive impact if ¾ of the employed population did that.
68 For every $100 spent in locally owned independent stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. If you spend that in a national chain, only $43 stays here. Spend it online and nothing comes home.

The Eden Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Election Dinner was held on Sunday, November 23rd , 2014
when they honored R. Ferris Randall as their 2014’s Citizen of the Year and Eden-North Collins Pennysaver as 2014’s Business of the Year at the Four Corners Café. Ferris Randall, our Citizen of the Year, had been co-owner of the Randall Agency for many years. He founded the office of Town Historian, was a Town Assessor for years, a volunteer fireman, as well as contributing to other organizations in the community, and beloved by so many of us who have had the honor of spending time in Ferris’ presence. He was presented the prestigious award by Ruth Bucki, the current owner of the Randall Agency and Don Stuhr, owner of the Four Corners Café . Despite inclement weather Ferris’ family was able to join him at the presentation. The staff of the Eden-North Collins Pennysaver was present to receive the Business of the Year award presented by Sharon Brockman, Vice President of the Chamber Board and employee of the Pennysaver. The Pennysaver has been in existence for over 50 years and has been the only town-wide publication for all those years. They help our businesses week after week with their advertising and current news of our community. They have been willing volunteers when the Chamber calls for support or help with our events and causes. They are truly a pillar in our community. Both Ferris and the Pennysaver were especially honored with a Proclamation of Honor from State Senator Patrick Gallivan’s office. Mitch Martin from the Senator’s office made the personal presentation to each. The 60 plus attendees also had the pleasure of hearing from Steven Martin, Chapter Chair of Buffalo Niagara SCORE with a special presentation.
Senior Information Meeting
A group of local residents are spearheading a grassroots effort to meet the growing needs of Eden Seniors. On November 12th, a public forum was held at the Eden Library. Over 40 people attended this initial meeting. Many attending voiced their frustration with a lack of knowledge of the services available to them or how to access these services. Several said that found it necessary to travel to neighboring communities to attend activities and educational programs. A follow-up meeting has been planned by the group which has been named “Active Citizens for Eden Seniors.” It will be held on December 10th at 11:00 AM at the Eden Town Hall. The guest speaker will be Patricia Dowling, coordinator of RSVP and University Express programs for Erie County Senior Services. University Express offer free lifelong learning classes on current events, history, science, the arts and more for adults age 55+. There is no cost for the meeting and it is open to the public. __________
Legislature’s Majority Caucus Cuts Spending, Delivers Tax Decrease in 2015
The Erie County Legislature’s Majority Caucus has revised County Executive Mark Poloncarz’s proposed 2015 budget that only held the line on taxes and approved a budget that decreases taxes. The Majority Caucus’s cuts to the budget provided much needed tax relief for residents in 2015. “In our first year leading the Legislature, the Republicanaligned Majority Caucus has adopted a budget that cuts spending, protects services and delivers a tax decrease to residents,” said Chairman John Mills. “When the County Executive released his proposed budget in October, he only held the line on taxes. Our Caucus agreed that wasn’t good enough. Taxpayers deserved better. We went to work, finding millions of dollars in cuts to non-essential services, and we were able to reduce the tax rate for 2015.” The Majority Caucus’s amendments reduced the tax rate while increasing funding for libraries, cultural, youth and service organizations and public safety. The revised budget was adopted by the Legislature at its Annual Budget Meeting on Dec. 2, 2014. __________

PICKS OF THE WEEK “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (PG-13) -- With the city under the heel of the ruthless Foot Clan, our best hope lies in four grotesque heroes rising from the sewers of 1980s and ‘90s pop culture. The team of turtles -- that’s Leonardo, Donatello, Michaelangelo and Raphael -- spew groan-worthy oneliners while leaping from explosions and fighting various thugs. The series’ supervillain, Shredder, gets a sharp robo-suit instead of the usual metal-plated outfit. While this reviewer will never forget the role The Turtles played in his younger years, this is sadly one of the most forgettable flicks of the summer. Even big-budget action flicks cashing in on highly marketable nostalgic action franchises need to have a little charm, a pinch of originality. While the action flashes continually on screen, the genuine thrills are brief and far between.

Pulled together by forces outside of their control, together the twins must face all the ways their lives have not gone to plan.
