Students in Miss Annmarie Busha's Grade 4 & Miss Cassi Johnson's Grade 3 class went on a field trip to Tifft Farms. Flags Along Main Street

The flags along Main Street and East Eden Rd. need to be replaced. Volunteers of Post 880 for the past 10 years have installed and taken down these flags. Financially, we maintain the flags, poles, brackets by replacing ones deemed unserviceable. They have reached their present state of Tribute, Memory and Love. They are faded, worn and tattered. 150 flags, poles and brackets need to be replaced. We are asking the businesses of Eden and East Eden, community organizations and residents to donate to this major project. The estimated cost for replacements is $50 per flag, pole (6 ft.) and bracket. To do a complete replacement, we would need 150 good quality sets. The cost would be $7500. A community effort to this project is neeeded in not only the purchasing of the sets, but installation of brackets. Donations can be sent to Eden American Legion Post 880, 2912 Legion Dr., Eden, NY 14057 Please mark flag donation. It would be nice to have this project completed before Memorial Day 2015. There are 2 new sets located at Main Street and Legion Drive.

Follow These Eight Easy Steps to Wrap a Perfect Present 1. Gather wrapping materials: Assemble your present, the wrapping paper, double sided tape, scissors, and a clear large flat surface, such as a kitchen table. 2. Secure fragile items: Make sure that anything fragile within your box is wrapped securely and won’t move around or become damaged. 3. Measure out how much paper to cut: Roll out your wrapping paper—but don’t cut it yet. Place the box in the center of the unfurled paper, upside down. Bring the paper up one side and over the top of the box, all the way to the opposite edge. Estimating how much additional paper you’ll need to cover the side of the box that’s not yet covered, cut the paper. Try to leave a 2” Overlap. 4. Secure the paper to the box with tape: Center the box on the paper. Bring one side of the paper up the side and halfway across the top, affixing it to the box with a piece of double sided tape.

Fold the other side for a cleaner edge: Before bringing the second side of paper up and over the first, create a clean seam by folding over the last half-inch or so of the paper, using your fingers to create a tight crease. Now bring this side up so it just overlaps the first one and affix with double sided tape. 6. Fold the paper on each side of the present: Starting on one end, fold down the top flap onto the side of the box, creating two little wings at the side. To get a running start on 2015, make time between holiday obligations to take care of financial and household business that needs to be wrapped up before the end of the year. Here are some possibilities: • Are there any credits cards you can pay off now and start the New Year with a zero balance? • Make donations to a char-

ity so you get the tax deduction for 2014. Review Charity Navigator, CharityWatch and GuideStar to be sure your money is going to a worthy cause and not administration fees. • Calculate your tax withholding to be sure it’s on target so you don’t pay extra taxes starting in 2015. Births, deaths, marriage and divorce all are reasons

to review your withholding. Don’t cut it too close, but paying extra (and getting a big refund in April) means you’re giving an interest-free loan to the government. • Determine whether you can make an additional contribution to your 401(k). Whatever you put in your account is tax deferred until the money is withdrawn. • If you own a home, make

one additional mortgage payment before the end of the year. Do it early enough that it arrives in the mail and is processed so it shows up on your end of year Form 1098 statement. • Check the balance of your medical flexible spending account and try to use it up before the end of the year when you could lose it. You’re only allowed to roll

over $500 into 2015. Some companies allow a grace period to March before the funds must be used or lost, but determine your company’s policy to be certain. Make appointments for eye exams and glasses, have periodic lab work done and schedule a medical checkup. • Review your life-insurance policies and retirement accounts, not only to see if they need to be changed in any way, but to consider the beneficiaries of both. If there have been births, deaths, marriages or divorces, or minors becoming adults, you might want to make changes.

• Open an IRA, if you don’t have one. The income is tax deferred. The limit is $5,500, or if you’re age 50 and older, the limit is $6,500. • If you have property taxes that are partially due in 2015, pay the total amount in advance and deduct on Schedule A. Sophie S. Sikora (nee: Preneta)

Sophie S. Sikora (nee: Preneta), age 97, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014 with her loving family by her side. She was born in Buffalo, New York on November 21, 1917. She was the daughter of late Andrew and Bertha Preneta. She married her loving husband William Sikora on July 25th, 1942. Sophie had a strong faith. She was a member of the Corpus Christi Church in Buffalo since her birth in 1917.Her family meant the world to her. She enjoyed her time spent watching her grandchildren grow. She always made time to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, along with the hockey games she kept up with. Sophie was an avid bird and garden watcher. Her favorite part of the day was the time shared around the breakfast table. She also enjoyed her quite time reading a good book. She was the devoted wife of late William; theloving mother of Boleslaw (Toni) Sikora, Arlene (late Jerry) Snyder and Shirley (Wayne) Hines; sister of Anna, Brownie, Mary, late Joe, Helen, Stephania and John; Grandmother of Cherie (Brian) Rohde; Bill (Kelly) Sikora; Marie (Matthew) Cummings; Tracy (Gregory) Karpers; Andrea Sikora; and Sara (Pat) Nash. Great grandmother of 13. Burial will be private held at St. Adalbert’s Cemetery, Lancaster, NY. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Church Preservation Fund 199 Clark St. Buffalo. ___________

Lionel J. Curtis

Lionel J. Curtis passed away on December 16, 2014, at the age of 92. He was born on November 2, 1922 and grew up on a farm in Portville, New York. He enlisted with the Army Air Corp and entered into active duty in 1943 as an Airplane Electrical Specialist, instructing airplane crews on maintenance and repair of electrical systems on B-29 airplanes. He was a Staff Sergeant, served as an engineer/gunner in a Liberator B-24 bomber, engaged in forty-six combat missions, and was awarded the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. He was honorably discharged at the end of 1945. He was employed by Ford Motor Company as an industrial electrician for 30 years. He lived in Lakeview with his wife, Wilma Grace Norton Curtis. In 1963 the family moved to the farm in Eden. Shortly after the move Wilma passed and Lionel proceeded to raise their 3 children as a single father. He loved horses and owned several over the years. For the past 25 years, with his life partner, Jacqueline Wenglik, they raised and showed llamas at Strawberry Hill Farm. They have made many community appearances at nursing homes, schools, and local parades. They established and were superintendents of the Llama Department and Show at the Erie County Fair. They supported and ran the Strawberry Hill Hummer 4-H Llama Club, who have shown llamas at the Erie County Fair, NYS Fair, and Eastern Regional Llama Shows. He was devoted to managing the day-to-day activities and working with his llamas. He had a deep love and appreciation for nature. He especially loved his fam-

ily and spending time with his grandchildren. Loving father of Steven L., Douglas A. (Robin) Curtis and Gloria J. (Charles) Gange. Stepfather of Alora A. (David) Gross, Kimberly L. (Meg) Curtis and late Renee L. Paszek. He is survived by his life partner of 39 years, Jacqueline Wenglik and one sister Marie Palmer. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Jason Curtis, Morgan Gange, Justin Gange, Nathaniel Gange, Garrett Gross, Trevor Gross, Aubree Gross, Maddison Paszek, Alexandra Curtis, Samantha Curtis, Arden Curtis-Gehl and Hunter Curtis-Gehl.
