Bantle Completes Basic Training

Private 1st Class Katherine Bantle completed Army National Guard Basic Military Training at Fort Jackson, SC; January 2015. She went on to complete her AIT as an Automated Logistical Specialist at Fort Lee, Va; where she earned “Distinguished Honor Graduate” status upon graduation April 2, 2015. Jacobs “Thank-A-Vet” Outreach Draws Crowd in Eden County Clerk Program Provides Valuable Savings to Area Veterans

Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs recently held a “ThankA-Vet” Outreach Program hosted by Town Clerk Mary Jo Hultquist at Eden Town Hall to issue discount cards to honorably discharged veterans who file their original DD214 (discharge papers) with the Erie County Clerk’s Office. Over 115 veterans showed up to sign up for the Clerk’s “Thank-A-Vet” Discount Card which can be used by veterans at over 1,100 participating local businesses who have agreed to honor the card with a discount on purchases or services. “My office continues our effort to recognize the area’s veterans through this important program,” stated County Clerk Jacobs. “Certainly we want to do our part to honor the thousands of veterans in the community and this is our way to thank them for their service to our country,” he added. For the veteran, filing discharge or separation papers is free of charge and certified copies of recorded discharges are made, free of charge, for veterans or their immediate families whenever needed. Original discharge papers are proof of military service, and can be used to establish eligibility for a variety of benefits. Bike Safety

With summer activities in full swing, Phil Tremblay (Officer) from the North Collins Village Police; Janice Catalano (Director of Operations) from the North Collins EMS; and Chris Pulinski (student intern) from Erie 2 Criminal Justice Program, collaborated on and presented a Bike Safety Program for students at the North Collins Elementary School on May 19, 2015. Demonstrations on how to properly fit a helmet as well as how to determine if a bike is the proper fit for the rider were given for each class. Students participated in discussions regarding general bike safety & “rules of the road”. A lucky student from each class took home the helmet used for demonstration. It was emphasized that all students need to wear a helmet when riding off their property, and if any don’t have a one, (and can’t get one), they should contact the Village Police Dept and/or North Collins EMS to see if assistance is available. A Limited number of helmets were made available at the North Collins EMS Open House held on May 17th. __________

The summer programs have started at the Boys & Girls Club of Eden. Each week there are different themes for the activities and learning experiences. This past week, was “Heroes Week”. The members were able to learn about and celebrate “real life” heroes on tours at the Naval and Military Park and at the Eden Fire Department. They were able to “be a hero” when they went to Absolut Care in Eden to spend time with the residents.
