Welcome to the new home of the Georgian Angus Premier Sale at Harprey Farms Proton Station Ont. The Hargrave family invites you to join them and consignors Glen Islay, JPD, Domaine Trevallon, First Line and Heatherlea Angus. We are currently running 115 brood cows, we have exhibited at majors shows across Canada, including several provincial shows. Our cowherd is commercially based with selling of bulls to our commercial customers making the success of our program. Recently at the last Royal Winter Fairs our bull calves were Allan & Don Hargrave division or reserve division winners. The dams of these bulls were born and raised here at Harprey. Some of the proof that our cows can work for our customers, at the 2008 Agribition Dwajo Angus, Alberta sold a heifer calf in the Masterpiece sale for $8700, Dwajo purchased her dam in the first GAPS for $2800. We expect these females we are selling this year to perform the same for their new owners. We look forward to your attendance at the sale for some angus fellowship. The Hargrave's

Lots of potential here, sired by Prime Time Krugerrand 548R, the herd bull we purchased as high seller in Prime Time’s annual bull sale. Lassie 1W is really deep with great eye appeal. Hard to sell this heifer calf with her whole future ahead, but her dam is young so hopefully she can raise another one. One of the neighbours is showing 1W in 4-H and we would like to maintain possession until after the Royal if possible.

If you like them deep and broody this yearling heifer is a prime example. A nice combination of the "Rito Revolution" on the top side with Special Design and Traveler 6807 on the bottom. Grandam came from the Harron's as a high seller in the Highlight Sale, she is an outstanding 6807 daughter with lots of bone and depth. A paternal brother Harprey Slugger 11U, won Senior Bull Calf Champion at 2008 Royal. If you want performance and maternal traits, 33U should do the complete job. Check out her EPDs for yearling and maternal. Can't wait till the Pendleton calf comes. Bred: April 18, 2009 to HARB Pendleton 765 J H -1471747-

Harprey Pride 37U may be the stoutest heifer in the offering, TJ Eldorado W709 seems to stamp his calves this way. With Glen Islay Pride 23Y on the bottom side cow power should be in this heifer’s favour, her dam Glen Islay Pride 21L has been a consistent producer. The combination of Hyline Paradigm 238 and QAS Traveler 23-4 gives a good maternal background. Bred: April 29, 2009 to HARB Pendleton 765 J H -1471747-

Harprey Flora 44U sired by Harron Hamilton 15S, a bull we bought from Gary Harron is out of one of his very best cows. The combination of the HF Justice 52L and EXT has left the calves really thick and sharp to look at. 44U is exactly that, a really thick topped heifer with good eye appeal. Her dam produced a bull we used on our heifers as a 2 year old, good production record so far. Because her dam is young, we decided to let this heifer sell, otherwise she would be in the keeper pen. 41U and 42U are twin heifers, sired by the maternal sire SAV Predominant 4438, combining with the maternal qualities of their SAF Focus of ER dam, these heifers should make excellent brood cows. The dam, Harprey Barbara McHenry 32M is a very dependable producer of calves, her first 3 bull calves were sold to commercial breeders. This cow family can produce consistently, the combination of Traveler 6807 and Traveler 23-4 and the bottom side should ensure maternal genetics on these 2 yearlings. The service sire Harprey Rockstar 12U was Intermediate Bull Calf Champion at the 2008 Royal National Angus Show. Exposed: May 25 to July 12, 2009 to Harprey Rockstar 12U -1433400-. We have always believed that if we consistently produce the kind of bulls that the commercial industry trusts, and demands repeatedly, the purebred sales will take care of themselves. We have had a great year, selling more bulls then ever before. Many to repeat customers and many to people who have never had an Angus bull, but now realize that if you want to profit in the cow business in the future, you have to use an Angus bull. This breed is just beginning to dominate the beef industry, and tremendous opportunity awaits us all in the Angus breed. Good people breed good cattle, and we are pleased to be associated with all of the partners in this sale, as they all, not only breed good cattle, but have the integrity to be around for the long haul. Congratulations to the Hargrave families for hosting this first event in their new sale facility, and for their enthusiasm to work and expand the influence of the Angus breed. At Glen Islay, we continue to be commercially focused, economically driven and motivated by your success. We welcome your call before the sale, at the sale, or long after the sale. Sincerely, Don Currie

An old friend of mine once said “good cattle are where you find them and they can be anywhere”. Not many people have heard of the Norben herd, started by Noreen and Ruben Desjardins at Beachburg, Ontario and now managed by Trudy and Doug Desjardins. They run approximately 150 commercial cows and only about 20 purebred cows and have only ever sold about 2 or 3 purebred females with papers. They definitely keep all of the best and cull the rest. We saw Monty as a outstanding calf and as a yearling but it was as a three year old, that he really impressed us and we knew that we just had to use him. We leased him for 60 days for two years, finally managed to buy him this year and we will have over 40 calves by him next year. He is as close to my idea of what an Angus bull should be as I have ever seen. He is so good footed, so thick and well made and easy fleshing, our commercial bull customers really admire him. His sire Stalburn Garnish 3G was a high performance, moderate frame bull that has left a wonderful set of females at Norben with the nicest udders you will ever see The sire of Monty’s dam, Valleystar Jorge was a powerful son of Scotch Cap with exceptional muscle expression. Our Monty sons were an outstanding group at our bull barn this year and were our highest selling sire group. We believe that Monty will have a long lasting positive influence on our herd and his daughters will be some of the best females we have ever offered for sale.

The sire of this calf, Tom Boy was the sensation at 2007 Agribition where an interest and possession sold to LLB Angus for $60,000. He has been a great calving ease bull for us with his bulls as well as his heifers showing a lot of promise. The Magic cow family gave us two Royal Winter Fair Grand Champion females. It is noteworthy that Magic 44T, Magic 2K and Magic 39H are all still working in our herd and 39H is in our E.T. program this year. Besides being very attractive this heifer will put down a really nice udder.

We have had more calves sired by Monty in our herd for the last three years than any other bull, and we are extremely pleased with both bull and heifer calves. Visitors to our place always find this heifer’s mother as she is picture perfect in her kind and her udder. A full sister to this calf sold last year to the good cattleman, Kevin McNaughton and she is in his show herd this year. We highly recommend this calf to be a top show candidate and an exceptional brood cow.

We have seen several daughters of Spruce View Essoteric 31A and they are absolutely the best footed cattle you can find. Allencroft Marshall 03 37S was one of the top bulls in the well respected Allencroft program and did an excellent job for JPD Angus. There is a lot of interest in straight Canadian Angus cattle and this heifer is just that. She is out of a two year old, only born in March and will make a superb cow. Note that Sir Big William 1722 was an own son of Great Northern, one of the most famous bulls to ever leave Canada. An interest in Tom Boy 509R sold at Agribition in 2007 for $60,000 to LLB Angus and his calves come easily and show a lot of promise. He was discovered by Roy Bjorklund of Look Out Farm, Peace River, Alberta and his sons have topped his sale the last two years.

We had three heifers by DMM Shift this year and are reluctantly parting with one of them. Our friend David Raff from Australia toured the top herds in North America in the winter of 2008 and after seeing Shift and his calves chose to purchase the Australian semen rights on the bull. The first calf out of Pride 14S may turn out to be the best bull born at Glen Islay in 2008. A full brother to Pride 14S is being used at Glen Islay this year. Both Pride 12N and Pride 22L are still in our herd and every one of their daughters. Because this calf is so young she may be a sleeper in the sale but she may be one of the best.

Monty has proven to be a very consistently good sire of both bulls and females. We cull very few of his bulls and his females sold very well in last year’s GAP’s Sale. This heifer represents three pillars of our recent breeding focus being Monty, our straight Canadian bull, Bonnie Chance Bardolene 10A and the most influential cow in our herd, Pride 23Y. We think you will like this heifer and we strongly recommend her to be a great producer. Bred: May 7, 2009 to FV 20K King 308M -1117753-, the popular herd bull at Schaff Angus in North Dakota. The Bardolene 1S bull is one of three Glen Islay bulls working in the Mark Goetz herd at Mildmay and is very impressive. He is the right size, really thick, clean made with a top as straight as a gun barrel and his calves are uniform with big tops and lots of hip. Angus Acres Bandy 96X worked in at least three prominent herds in Alberta before ending his career at Double A Angus in Peace River at eleven years of age. The Barbara cow family has been one of our best for 30 years and note that Barbara 14E was Grand Champion at the Royal Winter Fair. This heifer is carrying one of the first services to our new straight Canadian bull that we purchased from Double AA Angus, in Saskatchewan and that we are very pleased with. Glen Islay Battle Cry 27L was Grand Champion at the Royal Winter Fair and Junior Champion at the Agribition and never ever had his feet trimmed. He is still walking the pastures up on Manitoulin Island at eight years of age and looks as good as he did at the shows. Notice that Captain 31N is out of the dam of Glen Islay Blue Label 27G who was Grand Champion at both the Royal and Agribition. Captain is also perfect footed and also working up on Manitoulin Island where our cattle calve, produce and rebreed all on their own or die trying. Bred: May 15, 2009 to F V 20 K King 308M -1117753-.

This heifer displays the extended front end and maternal look that you would expect coming from an individual that is line bred to both QAS Traveler 23-4 and Scotch Cap with a shot of Schearbrook Shoshone thrown in, in her extended pedigree. The Maggie family came as a result of purchasing the top twenty cows out of 350 cows in the Mardon herd and after consulting in that herd for three years. The Maggie 34J cow has been one of our very top producers in our herd up on Manitoulin Island. Bred: May 15, 2009 to F V 20K King 308M -1117753-. Examined safe in calf.

This heifer is Canadian bred all the way and is the result of sharing a flush with Joel and Irene Thomas. JPD Jennifer 36G has arguably been the best foundation cow in the Thomas herd and has left a legacy of good cows in their herd. We are retaining a flush sister to this lot. We really like the feet and udders on our Winston 249B daughters and used a son of him in our herd this year. The service to our new herd sire, Double AA Bardolier 119U should add value. He is perfect in his feet and structure, plenty thick and has a wonderful disposition. Bred: May 22, 2009 to Double AA Bardolier 119’08 -1464905-.

A real maternal looking female like you expect from one that is line bred to QAS Traveler 23-4. We saw Tom Boy at the 2007 Agribition and admired his flawless structure, good feet and muscle shape and watched an interest sell to one of the top herds in the country LLB Angus for $60,000. We were looking for a Canadian bred bull that would compliment what we are doing and would be a calving ease bull as well. His calves are exactly what we hoped for, all arriving unassisted from heifers, weighing 76 to 80 lbs. His bull calves are showing excellent growth and thickness and will be popular calving ease sires. The heifers are strong topped, clean made very feminine and will make wonderful cows. We used Tom Boy again this year.
Snako was born in the Bonnie Chance herd of CK Armistead at Onoway, Alberta, and was purchased by John Moneo of Old Post Ranch, now Peak Dot Ranch when the present senior member of the Moneo family (Terry) was just a kid. When I visited the Moneo’s in February l973, I saw the most outstanding two year old bull, that I had ever seen and was encouraged to try and buy him at the upcoming Regina Bull Sale. That bull was Bardolene of Old Post 5. He set a new record price at the Regina Bull Sale and was purchased by Bill Dillabaugh of Double AA Angus, and the rest is history. Bill based his whole program on sons and grandsons of Old Post 5 and the more that he line bred those cattle the better they became. All of the hundreds of Double AA Bardolene bulls trace to Old Post 5 and Bonnie Chance Bardolene 10A. While at Moneo’s that cold February day I was tremendously impressed by the yearling heifers and two year olds and of course the two year old bull Old Post 5 all sired by Bonnie Chance Bardolene 10A. Before I left that day I purchased him and although he was injured at the A.I. stud before I got him home, we still have some of the semen he produced. After all the hype and promotion of show winners and EPD trait leaders that promise new levels of excellence, we now realize that great cattle never change and that the truly greatest cattle of the 1960’s and 1970’s in Canada, were as good as the best cattle of the 21st century. Since we went back and started using Bonnie Chance Bardolene 10A about six years ago we are extremely pleased with the growth, fleshing ability, fertility, structural soundness, and muscle expression of his progeny. His influence will be a very important part of our future. It is noteworthy that the complete Bonnie Chance herd sold to Hackamore Ranch in Mississippi and when Hackmore dispersed in 1973, the sire of Snako sold as an active breeding bull at eleven years of age. Snako’s dam sold at 18 years of age with a bull calf at foot and was rebred. Imagine moving from North of Edmonton to Mississippi as old cattle and still being fertile and productive.

The Double AA herd has been supplying hundreds of bulls to ranchers for nearly 40 years and through line breeding to the Bardolene sire line and the Annie K cow family they have been extremely successful with almost exclusively Canadian Genetics. The very popular Double AA Old Post Bandolier was bred and raised at Double AA and discovered as a five year old in a commercial herd. He is now the featured herd sire at three of the largest purebred herds in Canada, Remington Land & Cattle, LLB Angus and Peak Dot Ranch. The popular Supreme Champion Female at both Agribition 2008 and the recent World Angus Forum is an Annie K from Soo Line Cattle Co. We went to the Double AA Bull Sale in March and bought our choice of their bulls, Double AA Bardolier 119U. He is line bred Bardolene and Annie K on both sides of his pedigree and was the youngest bull in the sale. He only weighed 73 lbs at birth, but at exactly 11 months of age he was 1140 lbs, had 35 cm testicles and passed a semen test. He has a great hair coat, ideal structure, thick butted, big wide muzzle and perfect feet. He has maintained his condition amazingly well on pasture this summer, has a nice temperament and we anxiously await his calves next spring.

Ultimo was first in class at the Barrie Fair, even though he was the youngest. He has great "eye appeal". Both his sire and dam trace their lineage to Allencroft Blackcap 54B, John's all time favourite cow. Plus Loma Lanes Blackbird 025P was John's pick of the heifers at Edmund and Shirley Kolesars. His mother Janalynne 54F is still in production with a beautiful set of twin heifers. She never misses the mark of excellence. Ultimo sold to a purebred breeders, Neil and Glenda Sturgeon and we have retained an interest.

Domaine Trevallon is very pleased to be consigning again to the G.A.P. Sale. Our farm is located in the Abitibi-Temiscamingue north west, Quebec. Presently the herd consists of 35 cows, mostly Black Angus from A.I. sires. The bulls are home tested and predominately sold privately. Through the past years we had the chance to meet so many nice people in the Angus industry. Our special thanks to John, Pat and their family who helped us in many ways to build a sound, functional and maternal Angus herd. Take a close look at our fancy show heifer calves, we feel they are the best we have ever offered for sale. Be sure to stop at the farm if you visit “La Belle Province''. We look forward to seeing you at the sale. Marc and Val Val, Marc, Simon & Maxim

Here is an outstanding Matrix heifer from the foundation cow family at JPDs. There is a long story of perseverance and convictions trying to get a hand on progeny from the Blackcap 54B family. We have drove John crazy trying to get progeny out of what we thought was the best three cows at JPD Farms (JPDH 10M,17M and 22M). We finally did it in 2005 with the purchase of show heifer JPDH 5R (10M daughter) and JPDH 14P (bred heifer of 17M). That was not enough for us, we purchased in the first GAP’s sale one of the featured lots, JPDH 3S (22M daugther). John's got to admit now that my eyes were pretty good as 5R’s first heifer calf was the high selling lot in the Quebec Sale and both 14P and 17M’s bulls calves sold respectively for $3500 to commercial clients. Then at John's Disperal Sale we couldn’t resist in buying the feature lot JPDH 10M (now an Elite cow) at the GAP’s sale. Her heifer calf went to the well respected herd of Joe Bandura, Alberta. Finally, last year were able to purchase her full sister, John's favorite all time cow 17M. Be sure to take a close look at this halter broke heifer with great brood cow potential. Entered in Ontario Preview Show.

Black Empress 20T comes from a very good cow family that Brian Jones brought into his Angus Glen herd from Rally Farms, New York. Not a lot of Powerstroke daughters to compare her with but if they all work as hard as she has with her first calf, you could use more. Another stellar Net Worth calf from another of the oldest cows in the First Line herd. Her dam by the legendary Fullback just keeps producing calves that wean off heavier than the rest. This heifer is without a doubt, one of the most powerful calves I have seen this year. Interesting note that one generation removed from her pedigree is Double A Willie Boy 2S, a bull that created some hype at the WAF in Edmonton ‘85.
7W’s dam is one of the oldest cows in our herd because she keeps having calves that are at the top of our calf crop, bulls and heifers every year. This Net Worth calf may be the best she has produced, a typical Net Worth heifer that is thick, deep, heavy muscled and a very trim, feminine front end. The other good trait of 7W’s dam is her good disposition that she has transferred to this calf.

Heatherlea Maggie 12N has been a great producer for us. We have three females from her left in our herd so we decided to let her and her extra H6 heifer calf go when Doug Henderson and John Duivenvoorden selected them this past June. 12N also produced a good bull calf we used on our own heifers before being sold to Bill Stewart of Belwood. Sired by Glen Islay Battle Cry 27L, Junior Champion at Agribition and Grand Champion at the Toronto Royal Winter Fair. Bred A.I. Heatherlea Maggie 6R is sired by SAF Connection, a bull we have used on heifers because of his calving ease. We haven’t been disappointed. His dam SAF Royal Queen is a very attractive cow with a beautifully made udder. 6R is from the Lady M family of cows here at Heatherlea. They are great, productive, eye appealing cows that work hard every day. Her heifer calf by Nichols Extra H6 an EXT son will no doubt be a great cow. This pedigree is quite attractive. New Design 878 offers one of the highly proven multi trait EPD profiles in the history of the beef industry. Heatherlea Erica 21R’s dam, Erica 9N, sired by Battle Cry 27L, is a Royal Winter Fair Champion, puts lots of power on the dam’s side to guarantee a pair of strong producers, both mother and daughter. Gem 31W, being sired by our herd bull, HF Beamer 125S, shows the natural thickness and length of body of all the Beamer calves. Another daughter of Heatherlea Maggie 14N, sired by HF Beamer 125S. Beamer was purchased at Hamilton Farms Bull Sale in 2006. Beamer was in the pen of three bulls that won the Champion Group of Three at Agribition that fall. Beamer is sired by Free Wheeler a bull that has produced many champions across Canada. 5U is a female from the Glen Islay Lady M family. To quote Don Currie “the best female I sold them”. Glen Islay Lady M 20F is a real power cow, still producing, she raised another good heifer this year. 5U will be a strong addition to any herd. This good strong-bred heifer is hard to part with, but Doug Henderson liked her and we wanted to bring some ‘good ones’ to our first GAP Sale. Gem 7U is from another strong cow family that consistently produces. JPC 14E was Grand Champion Female for Glen Islay in 1996 at the Toronto Royal. She also produced Glen Islay Bondsman, a bull that was owned by JPD Farms and did an outstanding job for them. Sired by HF Beamer 125S we know you can count on 7U to make a strong lasting addition to your herd.
