Welcome to the 3rd Annual Twin Bridge Farms and Guests Bull and Female Sale. We are happy to have both the Ness family back again this year as well as Carlson Cattle Company joining us. Like many Gelbvieh breeders we purchased our first bulls and females from the Carlsons so it is an honour to have them as part of this sale. What a year 2013 was for the beef industry. We saw record high cull and calf prices as the demand for beef increases. It was great to see steer calves selling for over $1000 last fall and some top end bred females going for $2000. With barley prices so conservative the feedlots are going to make a big profit on those expensive calves. They are sure to be willing to pay big prices again next fall. It is more important than ever to be using the best genetics we can and keep a youthful herd sire battery. More than ever each extra pound we can raise and every cow that is in calf makes a bigger difference on our bottom line. On March 17th the bulls on offer have those genetics that will progress your operation. There are performance bulls to raise those scale busters in the fall, Map to Silver Sage Corral Brooks, Alberta low birth weight bulls to make calving season stress free and of course all of them should produce those females that the Gelbvieh breed is known for. Back by popular demand there will be a select offering of females again this year. They meet the same high standards as the bulls. New this year the sale cattle will be Leptin tested. The Leptin gene causes cattle to produce leptin, which is associated with appetite. This increase in appetite in turn increases weight gain, carcass grade, milk production, fleshing ability and ultimately profit. Cattle can have no copies of the gene (CC or 0% positive), one copy (CT or 50% positive), or two copies (TT or 100% positive). With each additional copy of the gene the traits above will increase in comparison to animals that are genetically similar otherwise. Here is the only Ricco son we have this year. After his sons highlighted last year’s sale Ricco was only out for a few days before getting foot rot in the 2013 breeding season. His offering may be small this year but this is a ripper of a calf. He has lots of natural muscling, length and thickness with a ton of hair. Baxter has a surprising amount of thickness considering he could be used on heifers. His pedigree is stacked with three generations of sires that not only calve easily but make great females. The Beryl cow family is one of our “up and coming” group of females that have really started to set themselves apart the last few years. Here is a calf that is going to get a lot of attention on sale day. He is very smooth fronted and angular with a wide topline and big hip. He really showcases what his sire can do. His dam was part of our show sting as a bred heifer and did a great job raising her fist calf. She also has an impressive pedigree. Cruise would be considered one of the easiest calving bulls in the pen. Along with a low birth weight he has good neck extension, is smooth shouldered and long spined, all characteristics of a good heifer bull. Like all Tiree progeny he is very sound and correctly made. Our only regret with Kevin is that we didn’t keep more of his daughters since they made great cows. At 11 years of age Happy Hour’s dam has a picture perfect udder, calved in the first cycle and is sure to produce more great calves in the future. She has reached Dam of Distinction status. When Yoicks was purchased this is the type of bull we wanted him to produce for us. Lots of length, thickness and depth with some added eye appeal and hair. This calf took off growing as soon as he hit the ground and was our heaviest calf at weaning. His grandsire Full Exposure is an AI sire we have used with good success. Most notably he sired Gail’s 4-H heifer that recently beet out all other breeds at the Medicine Hat Pen Show to be Grand Champion 4-H Bred Heifer. Wrangler is a definite sale feature. He has that perfect balance of phenotype, genotype and pedigree that we expect when we match up the top individuals in our program. His dam was our pick of the V&V Farms 2009 heifer calves and she has met and exceeded our expectations. Through embryo transplant and natural means she has already produced an impressive set of progeny. A son, AWB Birch’s Blk Powder 37Z ET, was retained last year for our own use, a daughter was the high selling red heifer calf at the 2013 Wish List Sale and three more daughters have been retained in our program. DF 20R did it again. Black Magic is the fourth standout bull she has produced since being purchased from the Drader Farms Dispersal. She may be the most consistent producing female in our program, she always calves in the first cycle, is in good condition and has an udder second to none. This is unfortunately the only black bull we have this year but he is a good one. Here is an extremely eye catching bull with lots of thickness and extension. He has that thick Yoicks hair coat that we are finding more and more beneficial in our cattle. He comes from a good cow family originating from Carlson’s program and includes some great sires including Post Rock Top Brass and Gold Star Polled 5D. Marshall has that rare combination of both power and style that is hard to pass by, which is why he was part of our show string last fall. Although the youngest in the pen he sure doesn’t look it. He was our top gaining bull at 4.19 lbs/day. With so much performance he is very smooth fronted and has plenty of extension so calving from him should be a breeze. Infinity was unfortunately orphaned in July which put him at a disadvantage. However he has really impressed us with how he has caught up. This bull may be overlooked sale day by some but he definitely has the genetics to do a lot for someone’s program. He is another calf that could work well on heifers but also has the performance to sire heavy weaning weight calves. His sire’s first calf crop has really done well with his daughters being at the top of our replacement pen. We were really disappointed to lose his dam as she was one of the few Spiderman daughters we were able to retain, and they are great cows. BULL BREEDING GUARANTEE All guarantees are between the buyer and the seller. All bulls offered and sold, except calves at side, are guaranteed breeders irrespective of age. All bulls after reaching the age of 15 months must be capable of settling 7 head or 75% of the eligible normal healthy breeding age females he is running with for a 90 day period, whichever is the lesser. No guarantee regarding the freezing ability of a bull’s semen is made or implied in the sale of a bull unless covered specifically in a written contract. In the case of a complaint regarding a bull’s breeding guarantee the buyer wishes to enforce the provisions of the Code shall report the same in writing to the seller enclosing a report prepared by a licensed veterinarian within 6 months of purchase or the time the bull reaches the age of 15 months whichever occurs later. The bull shall be returned to the seller at the buyer’s expense. The seller may replace the bull with a bull of equal quality or refund the purchaser’s price of the bull or he may attempt to prove the bull a breeder under the terms of this clause within 6 months. If the bull is proven to be a breeder within the 6 months provided he shall be returned by the seller to the buyer and the buyer’s expense. If he is not proven to be a breeder then replacement or, at the option of a seller, a refund is mandatory. Under no circumstances will a seller be liable for more than the purchase price of the animal sold.
