Twin Bridge Farms & Twin View Livestock 7th Annual Gelbvieh Bull & Female Sale

With guest Keriness Cattle Company

Monday, March 12, 2018 1:00 p.m. Silver Sage Community Corral Brooks, AB

This has definitely been a year for change for the Birch family. Long periods of "empty nesting" takes some getting used to for Ron & Carol. Aaron and Joe have relocated to Saskatchewan and the phone takes the place of the pasture talks. Ross works off the farm in the winter and farms with us in the summer. After completing college this spring, Gail plans on returning to the farm. Her love being the cattle. Owen is now working in Lethbridge and helps out often. The one thing that hasn't changed is the bull sale. The same people are still offering genetics that will fit the top end of both commercial & purebred herds. We are excited to once again offer a variety of good quality genetics. We thank and appreciate our previous buyers and always look forward to new interest. Please call for inquiries or to arrange a pre-sale look at our bulls and/or the herd. We look forward to seeing you!

The Birch Family Twin Bridge Farms

Welcome to the 7th Annual Twin Bridge Farms & Twin View Livestock and Guest Bull Sale.
The beef market has been strong and profitable again this year, the common denominator is that good cattle will still bring you a premium at the market. Pounds of beef gained will always improve your profit margin. The best way to attain those extra pounds of beef is by adding the Gelbvieh influence and building a solid foundation in your cowherd.
Twin Bridge Farms and Twin View Livestock have established themselves as top breeding programs to add powerful seedstock genetics from. The bulls in their lineups this year reflect the new performance sires that they have included to continue to improve the programs. Twin View Livestock had another terrific year showing with championship awards and each of the consigners produced high selling females at the Gelbvieh events. Those Championship bulls will headline this already power set of bulls that will be warranting your attention. It is no accident that cattlemen are paying attention to their successes. The drive to Brooks will be well worth your time and investment.
The guest consignor is Keriness Cattle Company, Airdrie, AB. Look for exciting young herd sire prospects from this well established breeding program. Joe and Kert look forward to discussing their sale offering with you.
The bulls from these herds are stout, thick, good haired prospects that will add calving ease, performance and maternal traits in your cowherd. If you have any questions about the cattle please contact the consignors or myself. If you are interested in purchasing next herd sires on March 12, but are unable to be with us on sale day, please contact me on my sale day phone at 403.803.4434.

 Yours truly,

Don Savage

From Twin View Livestock, welcome to our 7th Annual Bull Sale! It’s hard to believe we have been hosting this sale for 7 years; I guess time flies when you are having fun. There have been some big changes in the last year for us including relocating to Parkbeg, Saskatchewan, however the depth and quality of the bulls, who now carry the Twin View name, is the same or better than previous years. Although a major undertaking, the move has been an extremely rewarding decision and absolutely the right one for us. Our bulls have been developed on a low starch pellet and are given access to a large run to keep them athletic and increase longevity. This system has worked very well and the bulls have stood up in many different m a n a g e m e n t systems. The bulls are cataloged in sire groups for your convenience. We have tried to include as many pictures of the bulls’ dams as possible. We know many of our customers retain their own replacement heifers so we feel this is a useful tool to show the quality of the females these bulls come from. The bulls will have videos available on liveauctions.tv and the sale will once again be broadcast online. If you do plan on bidding online we encourage you to contact myself or Shari Leachman ahead of time so we can point you in the right direction. We are thrilled to once again have our friends, the Ness family, Kert & Cindy and Joe & Brenda, joining us. They have been with us from the start and we are so happy with the continually improving cattle they bring to the sale. They promote their program and the Gelbvieh breed throughout western Canada and you won’t find people more enthusiastic about the breed or as genuinely nice people. Promoting and advancing the Gelbvieh breed and our program is very important to us. We have been fortunate to have had success in the show ring the last couple years, including being the 2017 Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor at Agribition and Manitoba AgEx last fall. We want to stress that we do not raise “show cattle”. We have been fortunate to have judges that appreciate the real world value in our cattle, genetics that are profitable for the commercial cow/calf and feedlot operator. In addition to showing, I currently serve on the Canadian Gelbvieh Association board and Joe is a director on the Manitoba & Saskatchewan Gelbvieh board. I am confident you will find genetics on March 12th to move your program forward. Whether it’s a bull to increase performance, to increase calving ease or make the ideal females the Gelbvieh breed is known for, there will be a bull to fit your needs. It also includes your only opportunity in 2018 to buy Canadian semen on the two time Agribition Reserve Champion bull, The Boxer. Plan to come early for lunch and stay after the sale for our hospitality. If you have any questions I encourage you to contact myself, any of our sale staff or contributors and we will be sure to help you in any way we can.

Every now and then a bull comes along that, from day one, commands attention and a second look. There was little doubt Bad Habit would be a great one from the moment he was born. We were truthfully hoping for a heifer calf however a red full brother to Bojangles was certainly not a disappointment. The Touchdown 166W progeny are developing a great story in the Twin View program including lot 2, Bojangles, who topped this sale two years ago and a number of 166W daughters who are now in production for us. Bad Habit is tremendous in his make with massive rib shape, intense depth of flank, great softness throughout, and ultra sound foot and leg design. Many admired him for his deep red, thick hair coat while he stood display for us throughout the fall. He was Reserve Calf Champion in Brandon, Senior Calf Champion at Agribition, a top 4 finalist in the Canadian Bull Futurity and a member of our finalist pen of bulls at Medicine Hat Pen Show. His dam, Boe 189A, has now created a trifecta of herds bulls; first with Bojangles, then Knock Out who we used ourselves, and now Bad Habit. She has become a Dam of Merit for the Canadian Gelbvieh Association as a result of her production. We can’t say enough great things about Bad Habit and have absolute confidence in the herd bull he will be for his new owner. He sells in his entirety.

AWB TWIN VIEW RUSH HOUR 91E Son of Bojangles 24C Sold to Ledgerwood Gelbvieh, Washington

A rare opportunity knocks with AWB Birch’s Bojangles 24C! Not often does a herd bull of this calibre come available in the prime of his life. Bojangles was our high seller two years ago to the great people at Hawkeye Ranches who have purchased a number of bulls from us for their progressive commercial operation. We kept a piece of him for ourselves because we saw unlimited potential for him in our heifer pen. As it turned out, we were able to lease walking rights as a yearling while Alan used him through AI. We campaigned Bojangles heavily that year before he moved over to Hawkeye. We now know we hit the nail on the head when it came to using Bojangles in our heifer pen. He calves like a dream! His first group of sons averaged 86 pounds at birth and heifers 84 pounds but more importantly his calves are absolutely designed for calving ease. They are long fronted, tidy skulled and come easy. Perhaps even more impressive is their ability to grow and perform. All but one of his registered progeny indexed 100 or above at weaning. Among these was AWB Twin View Rush Hour 91E who was selected early this summer by the great people at Ledgerwood Gelbvieh in Washington, USA. Bojangles has continued to grow and develop into an impressive breeding bull and has a lot of miles in him yet. He sells simply because his duties in the heifer pen have come to an end at Hawkeye since over half their replacements are his daughters. Both Hawkeye and ourselves will continue to use him through AI however he sells in his entirety here. Take note that lot 1 is his full brother and a third maternal brother saw breeding duties for us here at Twin View. Look for that sire group to be highlights next year! Lots 3-5 are the first sons of Bojangles to be offered and are a testament to the potential Bojangles has to make an indelible impact on the Gelbvieh breed.

Night Rider is from our show pen and is extremely cool! He has as much volume as any bull in our offering and seamlessly blends from chest floor to chin and has a very tidy skull for ease of calving. He is as impressive on paper as he is in the flesh with generations of calving ease bred into his pedigree and a calving ease EPD of 13. We feel he would work well on heifers and still offer major performance. He ranked #5 at weaning weight and #2 at yearling weight off a first calf heifer. Class Act is very appropriately named as he is one classy dude! He carries himself with real presence and is quickly noticed because of his liver red colour. A light 74 pound birthweight, ideal body design for calving ease, birthweight EPD of -1.3 and a calving ease EPD of 10 make him a valuable prospect for the heifer pen. Like Bojangles, he is big middled and gets on the move with ease. It makes us proud as breeders when our young females do every bit the job as our mature cows. His dam has an impeccable udder with beautiful teat placement and size. She too is liver red, building colour consistency if you’re looking to darken your calf crop.

Lots 6, 7 and 8 are ET flushmates from the mating between Gayle 48Z and VV Zake. The combination of two national champions provided much excitement for us and results are certainly proof of that. We couldn't be happier with the outcome! Two flushmate sisters in the replacement pen at Twin View are simply awesome including AWB Twin View Gayle 78E ET who we consider the greatest Gelbvieh female we’ve produced to date. She was the undefeated Calf Champion this fall and created quite a buzz wherever she went. We really admire the front third each of these bulls has. They are so smooth made, have exceptional extension and will provide ideal calving ease for mature females without compromising performance. Where these bulls will really shine however is the females they will produce. Sons of Gayle 48Z are already working for for MacDougall Ranch and Lomond Grazing. Lot 6 is Renegade (AKA Gilbert) who you will be hard pressed to find a more kind disposition in any animal ever! Renegade was a member of our show team and was selected Bull Calf Champion and Reserve Champion Bull at Manitoba Ag Ex. He was also a member of our Finalist pen of bulls at Medicine Hat. Renegade is the ultimate in smooth design and is exceptionally long sided. DNA tested non-dilutor. Lot 7 is Mayhem who is more rugged in his design and comes complete with a massive top, huge hip and the built in ability to create outstanding females down the road. DNA tested non-dilutor. He will be especially impressive as a mature bull and will be a great buy no matter the price! Lot 8 is King. What can you say, both parents National Champions. Iron Fist hammers the ground squarely on a massive foot. We can imagine how extremely impressive he will be as a mature bull! He is the result of an embryo flush on one of our long time favourite cows, Rainbow 30U. A flushmate sister in the Twin View replacement pen is one we are watching closely with a bright future ahead of her. Iron Fist comes from a long line of successful siblings including maternal brothers who’ve went to work at Nelson Gelbvieh, Nish Gelbvieh and Little’s Country Farm as well as maternal sisters working for us and the 2014 Sweetheart Champion. He has a great disposition and was on our short list to be part of our Medicine Hat display pen. His dam is a model Gelbvieh female who consistently weans a great product. She has been honoured by the Canadian Gelbvieh Association as a Dam of Distinction in 2017 after being a Dam of Merit in 2015 & 2016. Crowfoot was purchased in dam from the 2016 Wishlist Sale where Truffle 66C was the high selling bred female. Being a maternal sister to VV Wruffle Me 18W, who’s influence can be seen throughout this offering, and a daughter of the proven Star Bucks made her a great asset to us. There is no doubt in our mind that she was worth every penny! As a two year old, she weaned Crowfoot as the 4th weight ranking bull in the pen. Much like his dam, Crowfoot is big middled and very long sided. We love the extension from his chest floor up into his skull and through his shoulder. With a moderate 80 pound birthweight, a calving ease EPD of 12 and a birthweight EPD of less than zero, we believe Crowfoot has great potential for use on heifers. He was DNA tested to be a non-dilutor so there is no risk of grey calves when mated to black cows. We believe so strongly in what Crowfoot has to offer that we would like to retain in herd semen interest for our use at Twin View. This outcross pedigree combined with the overall design of Crowfoot make him a great asset to us and his new owner!

We have enjoyed a tremendous year at Twin View Livestock. We are very proud of the results our cattle achieved at various shows but have even more pride for their success in the real world! Ranch Hand is tremendously soft and loose made with a big hip and rib. Other than a little lighter colour, he is a carbon copy of Wrangler. He comes with a very cool disposition and is supple and correct in his movement. He is a full brother to the bred heifer we campaigned last fall, AWB Birch’s Faithful 39D. She became the winningest yearling in the breed last year as division champion in Brandon and Agribition as well as winning the Gelbvieh breed in the First Lady Classic. She is now doing a beautiful job on her first baby. Another maternal sister was the high selling female at the 2014 Wishlist to Bluff Island Stock Farm and a maternal brother sold to MacDougall Ranch in British Columbia. The Faithful cow family has a long history of being highly productive females and Ranch Hand’s dam, 132Y, is certainly carrying on that tradition. Take note of his extremely balanced, above average set of EPD’s, consider his ability to create high quality females and then evaluate him in the flesh. This dark red hairy, deep and thick, softer made, with neck extension and lots of nuts, got noticed at the 2017 Medicine Hat Pen Show. Elvis is a moderate size that weaned 57% of his dam. KCC 30E has an entertaining personality, and was fairly easy to halter break. Picturing Elvis was difficult with his entertaining personality (it was like taking a selfie with Jim Carey).

This is a heifer that could have sold at the Wishlist Sale or PGA sale in Moose Jaw. This quiet, well balanced, easy doing heifer has impressive EPD’s. She is medium red and a full sister to ‘JOE I Like Donuts’ who sold to Thackeray Land and Cattle at the 2016 PGA Sale.
