n 23 February, we will mark 112 years since the founding of Rotary. It is incredible to think about how much has changed, in our world and in our organization, since the first Rotary club met in Chicago with Paul Harris as a founding member.
But I will say, with absolute faith and complete confidence, that the world is a far, far better place now than it would have been without Rotary and that Rotary itself is stronger because of every one of you.
The world needs Rotary more than ever. It needs Some things are easy to compare between now our courage, our optimism, and our idealism. It and 1905. store that sells new husbands has opened in New York City , where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates: You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the value of the products increase as the shopper ascends the flights. The shopper may choose any item from a particular floor, or may choose to go up to the next floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building! So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband. On the first floor the sign on the door reads: Floor 1 - These men Have Jobs She is intrigued, but continues to the second floor, where the sign reads: Floor 2 - These men Have Jobs and Love Kids. "That's nice,' she thinks, 'but I want more.' So she continues upward. The third floor sign reads: Floor 3 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, and are Extremely Good Looking. "Wow,' she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.
She goes to the fourth floor and the sign reads: Floor 4 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Good Looking and Help With Housework. "Oh, mercy me!' she exclaims, 'I can hardly stand it!' Still, she goes to the fifth floor and the sign reads: Floor 5 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Gorgeous, Help with Housework, and Have a Strong Romantic Streak. She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor, where the sign reads: Floor 6 - You are visitor 31,456,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please. Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store. PLEASE NOTE: To avoid gender bias charges, the store's owner opened a New Wives store just across the street. The first floor has wives that love sex. The second floor has wives that love sex and have money and like beer. The third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors have never been visited.

A Night at the Movies for Polio Another spectacular night of entertainment and fellowship is being organized at Castle Towers on the night of Wednesday 22nd February. Hidden Figures is the movie and it uncovers the incredible, untold true story of a brilliant group of women who changed the foundations of America, and the world, for the better – by aiming for the stars. The film recounts the vital story of an elite team of black female mathematicians at NASA, who helped win the all-out space race against America’s rivals in the Soviet Union and, at the same time, sent the quest for equal rights and opportunity rocketing forward. Everyone know about the Apollo mission and the bold male astronauts who took those first giant steps for humankind in space. Yet, remarkably, Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson are names not taught in school or even know to most people – even though their daring, smarts and powerful roles as NASA’s ingenious “human computers” were indispensable for human space flight. Get ready for a great night’s entertainment and see if you can bring a friend or two along. Timing and prices still being negotiated but details will be circulated soon, Just keep the night free! Check the inside cover and pages 52 and 53 of the latest issue of Rotary Down Under (you’ll need to take the plastic off) for more information.
