O
ur International Night was a great success with 118 attendees and the delightful Chatchai Viriyavejakul, the acting Thai Consul-General as our special guest speaker. The Siam Dance Group added to the Thai character of the evening and the food was terrific. The atmosphere was one of fellowship and the noise in the room indicated that all those attending had a great time and were able to catch up with other Rotarians from our zone. Thank you for coming. Tonight we have the pleasure of thanking all those who contributed to the success of two of our local projects this Rotary year, the Lisa Harnum transitional accommodation at St Michael’s and the new deck for Scott Green and his family. Our own members spent time in then hot sun trying to be Mike Blair and despite their efforts the job is almost done – just a few finishing touches. Bur none of this would have been possible without the support of the individuals and companies who contributed their knowledge and products. The results of the combined efforts of all concerned created outcomes that are of great benefit to our local community. It is also an opportunity to celebrate ourselves – Rotary International’s 111th birthday. Although the actual birthday is 23rd February, this is as close as we can get at a regular meeting. Next week we will are holding our annual Pride in Workmanship event when we acknowledge the dedication and performance of those in our community who give their very best as they go about their daily work. We have some very worthy nominees and it will b e another special occasion. I visited Past District Governor David Rands at the Ryde Rehab Hospital last week. He is making slow progress but will be able to attend the PETS and present The Rotary Foundation segment of the training. The length of is stay in rehab is unknown but when he asked the question on his arrival he was told that nobody leaves in under 3 months. He has a very positive attitude and will do all in his power to achieve the best outcome possible outcome. You may all remember our Garage Sale last year at the Storage King, Castle Hill. At the close of the day we still had quite a deal of unsold items. Well, Stevan Hay placed them on Gray’s Online and sold the lot to a “picker” for a little over $300. I have the cheque for our treasurer. Steve also offered us a storage unit at his site for the princely sum of $1 per week. We are in the process of setting up the deal. This will mean we can move out of the temporary storage at the showgrounds quite soon. Yours in Rotary

SHOW GATE Change in the times for our Friday 4th March Following consultation with the Show Society, there is now a change in the times for our Friday 4th March roster. Thank you to those who have given me their names for shifts. If you have not yet replied, it would be appreciated if you could let me know what days and times you will be available. Thanks,

n life, sometimes the experiences that matter the most are the briefest. They pass in the blink of an eye: a few days, a few hours, a few moments. They are the experiences that illuminate the landscape of our memory, shining brightly even years later. They are the moments in which we see, suddenly, something we had not seen; we understand something we had not understood; we forge a connection we had not expected.
from now, from 28 May to 1 June, I invite you to step into my experience: allow me to welcome you to Seoul for our 107th International Convention. The Koreans have a saying: 사람이 나면 서울로 보내 라. In English we would say, "When a person is born, send them to Seoul." For Seoul is a city of opportunities: a wonderful destination with rich traditions, modern conveniences, and a culture unlike any other. But I ask you to join me in Seoul not only for all of this, but also for the experiences you will have there with your fellow Rotarians.
For me, this has been a Rotary year like no other. I have been around the world, traversing countries and continents. I have been to places I had never seen before, and I have returned to familiar places and seen them, as for For a brief moment in time, you will experience Rotary the first time, through the lens of Rotary. as I have experienced it: in all its diversity, all its warmth, and all its potential.
