From President Mike Hallen

L

ast Wednesday we celebrated another in our ongoing Pride in Workmanship evenings. It was our pleasure and privilege to recognise the awardees who have been recognised for their pride in what they do and for going beyond their job description as they go about their work. We also thanked the employers for their support in making the event possible. We were joined on the night by: Deloitte Partner Karl Gessner and his nominee Bernadette Khouri who brought along her partner Reymond Reinecke and his daughter Tayla; From the Castle Hill Tennis Academy, Awardee Neil Armstrong and his wife Michelle Smith; Armstrong Automobiles, represented by Awardee Phil Taylor with his son Damien; Awardee Wayne Jerome and his wife Sue from Jerome Signs; and Storage King Castle Hill that had two awardees with us, Stevan Hay and Cheryl Waterson. Geoff Duffy has the photos! In addition to recognising Storage King Castle Hill employees, we also presented the company with a Certificate of Appreciation from The Rotary Foundation for their ongoing support. Also with us was our Mayor, Councillor Dr Michelle Byrne, who has accepted Honorary Membership of the Rotary Club of Castle, Hill. We welcomed Michelle into our club. Organised by Bob Chary, it was another great night . Thank you Bob. Next week we shall all be briefed regarding our participation in the Castle Hill Show. Just another challenge for us volunteers but it will add significantly to our project funds for the year. Thank you all. Yours in Rotary

NOTES FOR THE CHRC MEETING 24th FEBRUARY 2016

resident Mike Hallen opening the meeting thanking everyone for coming on what is an annual special event in the history of our Club. The Pride in Workmanship idea, to recognise people for all occupations who have excelled in support of their customers, suppliers and colleagues, originated at our club and has spread across the Rotary community. Once again, through the efforts of Bob Chary and his able helpers, we have been able to identify members of the local community who we recognised tonight. All vistors and their supporters and family members were welcomed. Mike also welcomed the Mayor of Baulkham Shire Council, Dr Michelle Byrne, who graciously accepted our invitation to become an honorary member of our Club. Mike presented Michelle with her badges of membership and all present welcomed her to the Club with a round of warm applause. Mike reminded her that as an honorary member she will not pay fees but equally will not have the right to vote!. Mike Blair reminded members of the need for support to move stored items from the Showground to the new facilities at Storage King and additional volunteers were acquired. Also the Castle Hill Show is coming and Phil Dunn is need of additional support. Please talk to Phil to fill in gaps in his schedule. Stevan Hay from Storage King was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Club on behalf of the Rotary Foundation for his generous support as the manager of Storage King Castle Hill. Storage King has been great supporters over the last year, hosting our Garage Sale and also storing various items for us and moving various furniture items free of charge to help with the set up of the transitional accommodation provided by the Lisa Harnum Foundation for the victims of domestic violence in the Hills Community.

Let’s go for

O

100%!!!

ur club has a strong tradition of supporting The Rotary Foundation and much of that support comes from members’ personal contributions. In the main, we do this through the Centurion program which asks members to contribute $100 a year for as long as they are able to. That relates to a contribution of $1.92 a week but the power of that $100 is enormous. $100 can buy 100 polio vaccines and that will stop 100 children contracting this disease. The really scary part of all this is that 5% of children who contract polio will die from it so the $100 you give is saving five lives each and every year. I think we should send a message to the rest of the world and that message is that we care and we are prepared to do something about it. 100% of our membership committing to the Centurion program would send the right message and it just might encourage other clubs to do likewise. Why not do it now in Rotary’s birthday month?

YOUTH NIGHT 09th March Each year we hold a Youth Night to give our members an opportunity to hear the experiences of those young people we have sent to camps over January. I confirm the evening of March 9 will be the night we get to hear of your experience, so confirm the date in your and your parents calendar. The function will be held at the Castle Hill Country Club, meeting at 6:30 for 7:00pm. Dinner is included at no cost for yourself, there will be a small cost for parents and friends to join us for dinner. I will indicate the cost in the next email. We ask each of you to give a short presentation of you experience at the camp or course you attended. Following are recipients we ask to attend. The times given below are a guide. Ashvin Bandodkar attended NYSF, the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra. A 10 minute presentation

RYPEN, Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment. A 5 minute presentation for each student. We will have a screen, projector and laptop available, if needed. Most speakers tend to bring their own laptop for convenience and ease of use. We encourage parents, siblings, friends and teachers to join us on the night to hear how these young people have gained confidence and enjoyment from the experience. I will contact you at the end of February to ascertain how many visitors will attend with you. So please have visitor numbers ready as I have to let the Country Club know by March 2 the number attending for catering. We look forward to hearing from you and learning about youth activities supported by Rotary. Any questions, just ask.

Hi Everyone, Mike Blair went down on bended knees at our meeting on Wednesday to seek members support for Showgate collections over 4 – 6th March and managed to pick up one or two extra helpers but we are by a long way short. The Current situation is desperate with the following man/woman power needed: Friday 4th

6 people

Saturday 5th

20 people

Sunday 6th

18 people.

While in past years, when we had a reasonable membership, we only had to do one shift. But in recent times it has now become necessary to do more than one and we are now at an acute stage of membership where we are forced to ask members to do at least two and three shifts if possible. With the loss of the TDH this is our biggest fund raising project. Please give this request your urgent consideration and contact Phil Dunn – 0427 788 807 email Phil - woolfarm@bigpond.com Mike Blair – 0418 606 921 email Mike- nailgun44@gmail.com Thanks in anticipation. Yours in Rotary
