howgate has come and gone for another year and as I write these few words Roslyn and I are preparing for our “Counting House” duties. We are not sure how we will emerge from this experience but hopefully our club will benefit from a much-needed injection of funds into our Project account through the efforts of our members over the weekend. Thank you to all who worked at the Show and a special “thank you” to Phil Dunn for his undying efforts. I attended the International Women’s Day Breakfast on Thursday morning at quite an early hour! Organized by the Rotary Club of Norwest Sunrise-Bella Vista, it was both informative and challenging as the theme of the event was “Domestic Violence”. The guest speakers were four women who either provided counselling and support for victims or who had experienced domestic violence. About 80 people attended and the funds raised will all be applied to local domestic support services as well as other Rotary projects. A bigger and better event is planned for next year. At the IWD Breakfast I met up with several of our recent PHF recognition recipients, all of whom wore their PHF badges with pride. They included Superintendent Rob Critchlow (who wore his on his police uniform), Aileen Mountifield and our Mayor, Michelle Byrne. Each of them pointed their PHF badge out to me. Our focus this week is “Youth” and Chairman Ross Hood has done another sterling job in both the selection of candidates for the various youth programs and arranging their attendance tonight. I am sure we shall all be inspired by what they have to say. PE Chris is still a couple of players short for his team next Rotary Year. He needs to fill the vacancies prior to the District Assembly (DA) on 16th April so please consider volunteering. If you are not a volunteer but would like to attend the DA, you will be most welcome. It is important that the information presented to the avenues of service at the DA is brought back to our club and those attending can only be in one place at a time. Last week I mentioned that we had presented a pride in Workmanship Award to “Neil Armstrong”. I was more than a little presumptuous – it was to Neil Smith from Castle Hill Tennis Academy! Yours in Rotary

Heritage Park BBQ Friday March 4th 2016 Each year we support the Hills Shire Council with a Sausage Sizzle when a re enactment of the rebellion on this site takes place & each year the crowds get smaller, which is a shame as it is such a lovely park & a tribute to what David Sommerlad & the late Warren Bowden put so much effort into to have this heritage site established. These pictures tell the story of the effort our club put in this year . PP Phil Davis

YOUTH NIGHT 09th March Each year we hold a Youth Night to give our members an opportunity to hear the experiences of those young people we have sent to camps over January. I confirm the evening of March 9 will be the night we get to hear of your experience, so confirm the date in your and your parents calendar. The function will be held at the Castle Hill Country Club, meeting at 6:30 for 7:00pm. Dinner is included at no cost for yourself, there will be a small cost for parents and friends to join us for dinner. I will indicate the cost in the next email. We ask each of you to give a short presentation of you experience at the camp or course you attended. Following are recipients we ask to attend. The times given below are a guide. Ashvin Bandodkar attended NYSF, the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra. A 10 minute presentation
RYPEN, Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment. A 5 minute presentation for each student. We will have a screen, projector and laptop available, if needed. Most speakers tend to bring their own laptop for convenience and ease of use. We encourage parents, siblings, friends and teachers to join us on the night to hear how these young people have gained confidence and enjoyment from the experience. I will contact you at the end of February to ascertain how many visitors will attend with you. So please have visitor numbers ready as I have to let the Country Club know by March 2 the number attending for catering. We look forward to hearing from you and learning about youth activities supported by Rotary. Any questions, just ask.

he young couple invited their aged pastor for Sunday dinner. While they were in the kitchen preparing the meal, the minister asked their son what they were having. “Goat,” the little boy replied. “Goat?” replied the startled pastor. “Are you sure about that?” “Yes,” said the boy. “On the drive back from church I heard Mom say to Dad, „Remember, we‟re having the old goat for dinner tonight.’

fter the wedding, the little ringbearer asked his father, “How many brides can the groom marry?” “One,” his father said. “Why do you ask?” Because the priest said he could marry sixteen,” the boy said, puzzled. “How‟d you come up with that?” his father asked. “Easy,” the little boy said. “All you have to do is add it up, like the priest said: 4 better, 4 worse, 4 richer, 4 poorer.” 11
