Success Story
($1 = Rupees 98.75 as of May 15, 2014) Mumtaz Bibi, a widow of 35 years, lives in a remote area of Pakistan. After her husband’s death it was proving difficult for her to meet the expenses of her family. In this challenging situation no one was there to help her. Esaar Microfinance-Interest Free, of Helping Hand USA assisted her by providing a male calf of Rs 15,000 for nourishment, through Islamic mode of Mudaraba. On the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha the calf was sold in the market. 80 percent profit from the sale was given to Mumtaz bibi which amounted to Rs 32,000. She realized that a good business and bought 2 calves with that amount. She nourished the calves and sold in the market for high profit. Now she has one calf three goats and a cow that she milks and sells the milk in the market. With the assistance of Helping Hand and her own efforts she is now living a very prosperous and happy life with her family.

Economic Empowerment is about lifting a vulnerable community out of poverty and about helping its people to achieve socio-economic empowerment within their societies. Income generation should lead to livelihood sustainability. Economic opportunity is not enough but economic empowerment is our goal. It includes all the aspects that are directly or indirectly related to a person's life. Natural disasters like earthquakes and floods are the main obstacles in sustainability of livelihood and they also minimize the source of income for the people.
