Major Projects 1. SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CENTERS

2. INDUSTRIAL HOMES

Helping Hand has 27 Skills Development Centers in Pakistan and 2 in Kenya and Somaliland respectively.

HHRD is working hard to convert all SDCs into Industrial Homes forming groups of artisans in each SDC

Presently, around 10,000 men and women are being provided with valuable training on the principal of “One Home, One Skill”. Skills Development Centers, Institutes of Technical Education and Industrial Homes are being built all over Pakistan to facilitate the attainment of this objective.

To promote the concept of “One Village One Product”. After the completion of Skills Development

Through the support and collaboration of local community, groups of 25 women are being trained by a skilled teacher. The teacher is selected by Helping Hand Skills Development team and he/she takes a class for four hours every day. Helping Hand organizes training classes within these Skills Development Centers: the classes include dress making, computer basics, languages, embroideries and Art & Craft.

In each of the IH, we identify a group of 15 artisans having a specialized skill. HHRD team develops skills and potential of these artisans further through product development and color combination trainings.

Women are enrolled into different centers after a pre-survey to determine their eligibility for a specific program. With over 11,000 beneficiaries, these Centers set out to impart training, organize artisans, specialize products, improve its quality and then market these handicrafts in various exhibitions and also in three Shop N’ Helps in Chicago, California and Islamabad, Pakistan.

Trainings at SDCs, many women join one of the six HHRD Industrial Homes in Pakistan to reap the Benefits of their new learned skills.

So far, in the year 2014, more than 417 women artisans have created different products including dresses, jewelry, decoration pieces, wall hangings, and embroidered clothes and have had the opportunity to display their crafts at various exhibitions etc.

4. Shop N’ Help Unique project of HHRD, that enables the potential women to sell their products in potential markets and earn handsome income for their family. By the end of year 2013 three Shops were established by HHRD each in Chicago, California and Islamabad. These Shops have, so far, helped 417 artisans to earn average Rs. 8,000/month. Some 14 women who have been more active in this project have been earning upto Rs. 25,000 a month. In the year 2014, we plan to increase the number of artisans to 1,000, whereas network of Shop N’ Help will be extended to other regions in Pakistan and USA.
